Tales of Eternia Remastered proves that a compelling story, memorable characters, and engaging combat can stand the test of time. Its new options make the adventure more accessible and customizable, but dated minigames and frustrating sections reveal the age of the original. Despite these shortcomings, it is a worthwhile return for fans of classic JRPGs.

I didn’t play this game back in the day, so I haven’t felt that little twinge in my heart that those who did must feel. I get it, and it must be amazing, but I’ve enjoyed it from a different perspective: that of a first-time player. My favorite is still Symphonia, the GameCube version, but I’ve already made room for Eternia on the list of games I’d recommend without hesitation—especially with about 30 hours of adventure that fly by without feeling overwhelming, and even more so knowing all the quality-of-life improvements.

Tales of Eternia Remastered is a great preservation of an iconic JRPG with a high-stakes narrative, dynamic combat (even if it’s not friendly for new players), a gorgeous world, and great options to switch your art style between present day and old school. This game deserves to be played.

Tales of Eternia is a JRPG full of heart and unique traits. I was surprised at the system depth and how well the story drew me in, despite being in a month of many competing games and reviews. I can see why this was remastered rather than remade, as it preserves a time that really emphasised fun and experimentation over all else. At a friendly price point and with a solid length, I recommend this to anyone seeking a unique JRPG.

Tales of Eternia Remastered is an endeavor that benefits the series more than the individual product: it brings one of the saga’s historical pillars into the modern era, though without exerting too much effort.

With a mix of fun characters, and engaging story, an interesting take on combat, and some modern flourishes this feels like a classic given proper update treatment

Tales of Eternia Remastered offers a linear but entertaining story. There isn't much to explore outside of the main quest, but the dungeons are well-stocked and quite long. A solid JRPG for fans.

Tales of Eternia Remastered is a careful remaster rather than a lazy port, and it retains the feel of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Skits, redone voices, quality-of-life tools, and flexible difficulty make it the project's strongest remaster so far. It is easy to lose hours to it, since scenes and dungeons move briskly, and walking through familiar locations with clearer backgrounds is a treat.

Technically, Tales of Eternia: Remastered deserves all the praise it has the potential to warrant. Whether you prefer a retro playstyle or would rather see it presented in a three-dimensional format, there is something here for everyone. In terms of gameplay, it might take an inexperienced player a little while to get the hang of the controls; otherwise, much of the experience follows a familiar pattern—one-on-one combat and a set path to follow as you explore the world.

Tales of Eternia Remastered brings back one of the most memorable adventures in the Tales of series, with its touching story, enjoyable combat system, and beautiful art direction. Despite some outdated design elements and improvements that don’t cover every aspect of the game, it manages to preserve the charm of the original while delivering a classic experience that is still worth discovering.

The real-time combat and darker story still make Tales of Eternia a worthwhile RPG, and its generous quality-of-life options make revisiting it far less of a grind.

Tales of Eternia Remastered successfully brings Bandai Namco's classic JRPG into the modern era, offering newcomers an ideal entry point to a 2000s gem. Driven by a charming narrative across the twin worlds of Inferia and Celestia, the adventure shines thanks to a dynamic 2D real-time combat system that has aged remarkably well. Thanks to a clean visual overhaul at 60 fps and crucial QOL additions (such as destination markers, adjustable encounter rates, and speed options) the frustrating friction of classic retrogaming is effectively smoothed out, delivering a deeply entertaining and polished classic.

Tales of Eternia Remastered is a great effort by Bandai Namco to preserve its classic games, bringing them to a new audience while respecting the original version. The pixelated graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is very cool, and although the gameplay has its issues, it still delivers a satisfying and fun experience.

Just like 'Tales of Graces f' and 'Tales of Xillia', this is a fairly simple remaster of a very good installment in the franchise. It makes the game available on all modern platforms and adds a number of things we expect for this type of game in 2026. Could it have done more? Absolutely, but for fans of the genre, this is a quite charming and still fantastic game.

The charming story, entertaining characters, and the combat system, interesting for its time, still hold their appeal today – even if the latter has become somewhat outdated.

Tales of Eternia Remastered is (almost) everything a fan of the franchise could ask for. One of the best games in the series now comes with all the content that was missing from the English versions on PS1 and PSP, a newly retranslated script, and new voice acting. The skits, which are so important to the franchise's identity, are finally here. All of this comes in a highly customizable package, with new difficulty settings and quality-of-life improvements.
