Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Reviews
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is an incredibly well-rounded addition to the survival-horror genre. It successfully reimagines the Resident Evil franchise while helping series newcomers begin their RE journey without the intimidation of pre-established lore or the need to play older, fixed-camera games (such as the original Resident Evil, or Resident Evil 0). Nearly 10 years later, the game still holds up incredibly well.
It’s been nearly ten years, but Resident Evil 7 hasn’t aged a day. Its brand new Switch 2 port not only showcases that its gameplay is still fresh and tense after all these years, but also showcases how well Nintendo’s portable can handle some of the more demanding games from the previous generation, with a handful of improvements to make it look as good as its current-gen counterparts.
Resident Evil 7 is the best installment in Capcom's flagship horror series since Resident Evil 4, and an early contender for 2017's game of the year awards.
Resident Evil 7 grounds itself in elements that made the original great while still indulging in a risky new shift in style that both helps and hurts the beloved formula in equal measure. But it’s also the closest a numbered sequel has come to recapturing Resident Evil’s slow, but thrilling and atmospheric adventure game roots in a while — a welcome return that I truly hope to see more of in the future.
Not the dramatic reinvention I expected, but this is tense and refined survival horror with a brilliantly bleak, grimy atmosphere.
Resident Evil goes back to its founding principles for a more cohesive and chilling breed of horror game that stops short of greatness.
A brilliant reinvention for the series and great horror game in its own right.
This game has fascinating secrets to tell, and is continually fun to play. Learning how this entry connects to the series is more than enough reason to play
Despite dragging in spots, Resident Evil 7's house of horrors recaptures the tension that first made the series a household name.
It's hard to know if Resident Evil 7 will stand the test of time as much as classics like the original, or RE4. Taken on its own, however, it's an excellent game that pushes the series in worthy new directions.
Capcom brings the series back to its roots while making it all feel new again.
Resident Evil 7 can occasionally frustrate with excessive boss fights and patronizing puzzles, but it’s still a scary and violent blast of survival horror that paints a bright future for the franchise. Bloody, tense, and exciting throughout, Resident Evil 7 is exactly what the series needed. Full of dread and brimming with anxiety, the series that started it all has finally found itself after decades of wandering. Welcome home, Resident Evil. We missed you.
A must-buy for horror gaming fans, HDR TV owners, and PSVR owners.
On paper, it’s easy to pick apart Resident Evil 7 for its inconsistencies; the game struggles to find a balance between being purely horror or a title more reminiscent of Resident Evil’s past, and the poor presentation and writing don’t help.
This is a game that can scare you, startle you, shock you, draw a nervous laugh out of you and make you shake your head in disbelief, but mostly it’s just here to entertain. And the Bakers are right at the horrible heart of it all.
The fact that Resident Evil 7 performed so poorly when other cloud entries have been comparatively strong really brings home the fact that, although mileage may vary, these issues are completely out of your control. On our evidence, there’s simply no way we can recommend Resident Evil 7 to Switch owners, even if it’s the only option available. It’s a great game utterly ruined by awful performance, and yet more evidence for cloud gaming skeptics that the tech just isn't yet consistent enough to be viable.
Despite being a reboot for the series, Resident Evil VII’s return to survival horror is both familiar and fresh, and it’s easily the best horror game in years.
There are some fantastic environments and old school style puzzles in Resi 7. The final section stops being survival horror and becomes a bit of a clunky linear shooter, but the first few hours are scary enough to put you off Louisiana for life.
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard brings back the glory of horror and excitement but is dragged down by a cliche story, easy puzzles, limited enemies, and overstretched game time.
