Simply put; Worms W.M.D is the best entry in the franchise since 1999. Above and beyond its well-grounded strategy roots, the game elevates itself with some smart new mechanics. It's sure to please any fans of the pre-21st Century Worms games, and I would think it offers enough to get a whole new generation interested in the franchise to boot.

'Worms W.M.D' offers up some of the best multiplayer fun available on PlayStation 4. It's dumb in all of the best ways, from its ridiculous voice acting to the farting grandmother that I often used (unsuccessfully) as a weapon. There are a few rough edges, such as the platforming, but whenever I would die due to an unfortunately timed jump I always ended up laughing. If Team17 have accomplished anything, it's that they have made a game that always leaves me chuckling with a grin on my face even when I was dealt a raw hand.

It's Worms, and Team 17 has done a good job in restraining itself this time around so that the only gimmicks within the game genuinely add to it. What's important to note here is that the Nintendo Switch is absolutely perfect for Worms, and that fact alone makes this the best entry in the series in years.

Worms W.M.D has been an absolute blast. Removing the 3D and physics based ideas that its lesser cousins had endowed and bringing back the 2D over-the-top carnage was what Worms needed to revitalise the franchise.

Finally, a true sequel that stands on the same playing field as Worms: Armageddon. It’s the most customisable game in the series yet with added mechanics that actually improve the gameplay. The experience is great regardless of how you play it, but nothing quite beats a room full of mates in stitches after you completely miss-time a Holy Hand Grenade. If you don’t have any mates around, then you can always take your little army online to rank up or earn a new gravestone in the campaign. Either way, it’s safe to say that Worms W.M.D is the best sequel the genre has had in years. Let’s just hope Team17 doesn’t break the experience by bombarding it with paid downloadable content.

Worms W.M.D. isn't the most original entry in the series. Rather, it's a modernised version of the earlier games. It may not be the best single player game either, but couple it with the portability and various multiplayer options of the Switch, Worms brings a fun and frantic game that is always best shared.

Worms is a timeless classic that finds the perfect home on Switch. One of the best episodes in the series, to play on the go. What could go possibly wrong? Nothing! Another must have for the new Nintendo console. This version has some exclusive content, soon-to-be released on other platforms as well.
