Outlast 2 is a good and very frightening horror game, but with some flaws like this anoying "die & retry" gameplay and linear pace.

Outlast 2 takes its original idea and builds on it very well to create a sequel that's straight up terrifying. A must for those who love nothing more than feeling the fear.

Outlast 2 is a great sequel to the game that started this series. Awesome atmosphere, a scary setting, good game mechanics and an interesting story, are some of the elements that makes this game a must have to survival horror fans.

A gripping horror game that loses effect over time after a great start and therefore remains behind the first Outlast.

Red Barrels's game is an immature and hateful slight at anyone who dares to believe in a divine creator.

Outlast 2 is a true improvement on its predecessor, with Red Barrel Studio planting its flag to claim the standard for horror games in 2017. From the beautifully horrific environments, the ambitious ideas to the sheer unsettling nature, it's disturbing in the ways you'll want from it. It makes this title truly interesting, even affecting. While it's aggressive in its assault on the player, perhaps to the point of becoming tiring, on the whole the game is very, very good. This is especially true of the exquisite second half of the game that sings to a developer in tune with its vision. Outlast 2 serves up an expertly crafted horror experience that will likely find itself burrowing into you even after your time in the Sonoran desert has come to an end.

If the number one thing you want from a game is a good scare, Outlast 2 is a big success. If you're looking for deep gameplay or replay value though, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Some gameplay improvements and a slight shift in style have turned Outlast 2 into one of the most terrifying games ever made.

If you loved Outlast for its story and the fact that it stripped away any sense of viable defense, then there's something special waiting for you. The story really does sing. But if you were hoping for something a bit more fresh and different in a genre that has started to become one-note, then you may be disappointed by what Outlast 2 has to offer.

Outlast 2 is a decent survival horror game with nice graphics and gameplay, but loses tension due to a overused autosave system. While I had a lot of fun exploring the various environments, it just left me longing for the original.

Outlast 2 has all the makings of a good horror game: alarming visuals, intense situations, menacing antagonists, and an overwhelming feeling of powerlessness. Though I would have liked the world of Temple Gate to be developed more beyond Knoth's Gospel, I loved every minute of my playthrough.

While you won't feel any sympathy for an overly talkative player character, the story will intrigue you, your enemies will terrify you, and every scene will leave you awestruck with dread.

The fact that it's not as breathtaking as its predecessor shouldn't really stop horror fans from picking up this creepy run-and-hide simulator.

Outlast II should have been everything that the first game wasn't. Instead, it's a bloated, overwrought, and incredibly frustrating survival horror game. Not terrible by any means, but not all that great either. Shame.

Outlast 2 on Switch is a great way to tackle what is one of the scariest horror games I've played in recent memory. The port is excellent, only marred by some inconsistencies seen in the game itself — horror fans should definitely check this one out.

Red Barrels really knows how to get under your skin. Play the game, you will understand. The dark undertones of the game set up the story throughout and constantly make you think wtf, yet you still want more. Buy Outlast 2, be scared, you won't be disappointed.

Outlast 2 builds on what the original did well, crafting terrifying chase sequences with care.

Familiar yet terrifying, Outlast 2 mixes excellent production values with genuinely disturbing imagery and subject matter. It's a long way down to the abyss but it's worth every minute of the fall.

At some point, it was decided horror games were more effective if they didn't involve combat; since then, they've flailed looking for ways to fill a now empty space, and a groundswell of aspiration, toward making videogames broadly about more than murdering for reward, has emboldened them. However, if the creators of horror games have silently, collectively agreed to redefine a genre, Outlast 2, packed with nonsense plot, engorged levels and frantic, anonymous bloodshed, feels like the definitive failure of their ambition. Don't be fooled by it, or its intent.
