Slightly underwhelmed, but still a classy shooter that will be made 100% better if played with friends. Future content will make or break the longevity of Destiny 2 though.

I have no doubt most Destiny 2 players are simply fans of the gameplay, raids, and social platform (not to mention loot grind). But anyone who is curious whether Bungie made a stronger effort to build a narrative, the answer is yes, with the understanding that it has been structured in a way which runs askew to most narrative traditions. I'm inclined to give them leeway on this, since game stories must sometimes follow their own path in order to synchronize with a particular gameplay framework. Promises of rich, cinematic storytelling still seem unfulfilled, but the developer has made strides in at least providing a narrative foundation for everything you are tasked with doing in-game (and there are many). Much of the Destiny 2 story brought me back to Halo, both in theme and tone. And while the plot devices are overworn, and more than a bit over-the-top, they do create a sense of consistency and encourage more exploration in the post-game. This, at least, provides the potential to tie disparate story threads together with details found as rewards for immersing yourself in the game world as a whole. While this may solidify the existing player base, many who felt disappointed with the first game will probably feel that way again, just to a lesser degree.

Destiny 2 commits a lot of the same sins as its father, but it succeeded in doing something the original never did -- make roaming around the open world fun and rewarding. It still has a lot of room to evolve with expansions and major updates, but the future is looking brighter than it once was.

Destiny 2 is a really solid game from a studio that feels like it's far more confident in what they have created for the sequel. While not always fun solo, it boasts well-crafted multiplayer gameplay with an addictive shoot-and-loot core loop. The end result is much closer to the original vision that the first Destiny was unable to grasp.

The snappy and fluid controls of Destiny 2 are the standout features and work like a dream. It elevates the game to a point where the action is never overwhelming enough to make you want to throw your controller down the nearest black hole. Even if you prefer playing solo, there are hours upon hours of content for you to enjoy. The game treads a line that keeps the game challenging yet accessible, so players of any skill can join in, and while Destiny 2 can feel like a Halo knock off at times, Bungie certainly delivers a AAA experience at a price that’s hard to complain about.

This is the Destiny formula perfected. It’s a vast improvement over the original game

Ultimately, Bungie’s greatest triumph in Destiny 2 is that it has transformed the polarizing, alienating experience of the first Destiny into an infinitely more rewarding one. While some of the improvements to storytelling are undermined by the lack of conviction in its writing, there’s a player friendliness to the end game content supported by rewards that finally acknowledge your efforts. There’s still a lot of room to grow from here, but Destiny 2’s future looks filled with light.

Just like with the release of the original game, Destiny 2 leaves us wanting more: More strikes, more missions, more of everything. This is a strong testament to the fantastic core gameplay even if other aspects of Destiny 2 come up short.

Destiny 2 on PC gets the graphics settings and modularity right, but some of the in-game systems just scream console a bit too much. A great sequel that should have been an expansion is finally in reach of those who prefer uncapped frame rates and a mouse in hand.

Since release I have been on Destiny 2 every night, be it to complete a few quick challenges or play the strikes until the light of our world faded so that my Guardian would earn that little bit more in his. It’s a wonderful experience and I get to share it with friends who share the same feeling of revitalised hope. Destiny 2 is far from perfect, but I am happy to consider myself at home alongside those blemishes on such a polished product.

Destiny 2 feels like the game we were promised with the original Destiny and more. The story and the world are interesting and can keep players entertained for hours.

While Destiny 2 has a solid foundation and a robust story campaign, its endgame content feels a little lacklustre. [OpenCritic note: Brandon Howard separately reviewed the PC and PS4 versions. Their scores have been averaged.]

Much like the original, Destiny 2 will be a second home for me and my friends. A place we can share laughs, hardships, defeat, and joy. That, in part, is what makes the Destiny 2 universe worth visiting: the brilliance of quality game design bringing people together.

First and foremost, Destiny 2 does not frustrate players by placing parts of the end game under hard to achieve power level requirements. There's plenty of loot to gain and, more importantly, you're actually having fun while obtaining it.

it may look like a new skin for Destiny 1 and that's true but it comes packed with everything we wanted Destiny to be, we may think it's a new start for the franchise and the fans with a full story and multiple fixes for the mission design also world size not to mention well balanced PvP, the game is very rewarding and enjoyable, you will love this game and you will find it more related Game to destiny world and it offers a bigger lore for this world, but the cliche story and weak characters still problem, also some balances to the PvP weapons needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

This sequel fixes Destiny's biggest gripes with introducing a motivating story to the player and a rewarding endgame. We all know the Destiny 2 we are playing now is going to be different a year from now and I'm ready to invest more hours to see the game develop further.

Destiny 2 is paradox incarnate! It hasn't changed enough to be a complete sequel yet it boasts enough content to be one. It rockets to the sky with pleasure and excitement then bashes to the ground cumbersome and tired. Some parts are so beautifully done they make us cry of joy and then other times the amateur hour hits and makes us cry for help. Despite all of this, it's a much better game than its predecessor with a lot more heart into it. Destiny 2 is a worthy game especially if you have friends accompanying you on this epic repetitive (!) journey

Destiny 2 doesn't have a great or compelling story, but the diversity in its environment leads to a fun and great adventure. One of the best features of this game is music and it can make you sink into the beautiful world of Destiny 2 from the very first moment. But on the other hand, long loading times are boring and in order to play PvE or PvP, you have to wait a long time which is not satisfying.
