The Layton legacy continues with an endearing new lead and lots of new puzzles, but relatively few new ideas.

Despite some shaky elements, Katrielle Layton does admirable work taking over the family business.

Layton formula is still working great, with more puzzles than ever, a new main character and the London setting. After ten years, though, the storyline is not as good as previous games, and puzzle design is not as imaginative.

Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy is more Layton, but with a host of new characters and a healthy dollop of puzzles. Unfortunately, they're weaker, more contrived tests of your mind than previously. Katrielle and the stellar supporting cast really boost the experience, as do the stunning visuals, but the sum of its parts is less than I expect from a Layton title.

With so much to explore and unravel in this game, plus accessible daily puzzles, Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy feels like a game we could get lost in for a good, long time.

Professor Layton has always targeted a very niche market and Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy - Deluxe Edition should fit right in alongside the past games. The lack of an overarching story and any drastic changes in the gameplay is a disappointment, but there's just something charming about this series that hopefully will continue to grow from here after shedding the handheld only roots of the series moving forward.

Factor in the rather obtuse nature of the puzzling and the uninspiring cast and you'll find that there's a lot to be disappointed with in this return for the famed puzzle series.

Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy may not have an interesting plot, but the game's likeable characters, a plethora of puzzles, and beautiful artwork are enough to see it through to the end. While it is a bit too easy for my taste, it's still a fun enough journey.

Non-charismatic characters, poor plot and simplistic puzzles along with the lack of 3D make Layton's Mystery Journey the weakest game in the main series yet.

Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle e il complotto dei milionari is a slightly lazy conversion of a rather disappointing game at the time of its original release. It's a decent budget game, but it's not as good as the previous games dedicated to professor Hershel.
