Sky Force Reloaded is the FDA generic version of the shoot-em-up. Everything is so plain, and the lack of personality will dissuade all but the most hardcore of shmup fans.

Sky Force Reloaded starts the player all souped up, and then strips everything away going into the meat of the game.

While not terrible, Sky Force Reloaded asks too much of the player with too little to give back. With some reworking to the exorbitant grind, I would maybe recommend this, but there are far better shoot 'em ups on the Switch that deserve your time and attention.

It's packed with content and fun to play, just weighed down by the process of farming stars.

Reloaded is a significant step back from last year's Sky Force Anniversary.

It's a testament to the development team that the game feels fresh and exciting after hours of play, where every subsequent upgrade still feels like a milestone achievement and each victory still feels like a demonstration of skill rather than avatar strength.

For the price tag attached to it, Sky Force Reloaded is the perfect antidote for Nintendo Switch fans that love this genre. As long as you came here in order to experience a pretty basic, and grind-heavy (but immensely addictive) vertical shoot 'em up, where the only modern thing about it is its graphical update, then you simply cannot go wrong!

A great port of an excellent mobile game. It may not have the longevity of classics, but it's a hell of a blast while it lasts.

Sky Force Reloaded is a solid if unremarkable vertical shoot'em up, that capitalizes on the absence of similar titles on both Microsoft and Sony marketplaces. We had fun with it, expecially with a friend locally, but that doesn't mean it is perfect. Still, a reasonable choice for fans of the genre.

Sky Force Reloaded for the Nintendo Switch is a welcome addition of a game that will certainly please fans of the 2D shooting genre, thanks to its good gameplay mechanics and cooperative mode. Where Sky Force Reloaded loses out is on its price, as the Nintendo Switch version asks for a value that is not requested for its free mobile counterpart.

There's a legitimately interesting and enjoyable top-down shooter experience present in Sky Force Reloaded, but it's tainted by an overall package that still has far too many connections to its free-to-play origins. Those longing for a game that'll last for a while will find the most enjoyment here, but most others may find progression to be a total slog.

A vertical shoot-em-up that does its best to modernise the genre with an upgrade and progression system. It successfully captures the spirit of older games of its ilk, but the perpetual grind may dissuade many players.

I've always enjoyed the genre, and everything in Sky Force Reloaded is solid enough. From a visual, gameplay, and soundtrack standpoint, I'm more than happy. I just can't shake this feeling that the game was designed to kill hours on the phone, and for me it just doesn't translate into a great home console experience.

With a solid progression system that means no defeat has to be too punishing and every attempt gets you a little further, Sky Force Reloaded is a 'one more try' shooter. Building up your ship from a pathetic husk to a monstrous killing machine is satisfying and fun, but it's a slight shame that the game is let down at times by bland environments and all too familiar enemy types.

The combination of 2D gameplay with 3D objects and some voxel based items and power ups seems like a blend of distinct styles waiting to go wrong but it works well and runs great.

Though not hugely different from its prequel, Sky Force Anniversary, Sky Force Reloaded nonetheless offers up a compelling slice of vertical scrolling shoot em' up action that both newcomers and fans of the genre will undoubtedly enjoy.

Sky Force Reloaded is an excellent shoot ‘em up and represents its lineage with quality. It's a shame that it forces the player to grind excessively but, still, it's a recommendable title for every user, fan of the genre or not. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-ldb4'); });

Sky Force Reloaded is a reimagining of cell phone game brought to consoles and PC. It's a 19XX and Raiden style game, but looking good. It's challenging and will require a lot of hours played to complete. Also available for free on mobile.

Sky Force Reloaded is a vertical scroll shoot'em up that knows how to give such a classic premise a fresh flavor. From here, fifteen levels full of excitement, shooting, tension, different enemies, and bigger bosses await us. Perhaps the ship's progress system requires excessive star farming, and the difficulty lacks a bit of adjustment, but do not be fooled, the virtues continue to make the game a very remarkable experience.

At the end of the day Sky Force Reloaded is a gorgeous and challenging arcade shooter, and is among the most impressive on the Switch. Its looks are top-notch, it offers a significant degree of challenge for shmup fans, and its controls are buttery-smooth. Just be prepared to invest in the game for the long-term if you really want to see all it has to offer, which doesn’t have to be a bad thing. I just feel like the game could and should perhaps ease up the throttle, at least early on, to give people a few unlocks to better see what’s possible earlier on so they don’t necessarily give up before seeing much of what the game has to offer.
