Dynasty Warriors 9 is so bad it could completely destroy your faith in the series.

There is no real reason to play this game, and I'm not ashamed to tell you to do either one of two things: Go play Fire Emblem, Hyrule Warriors or even Dragon Quest Warriors. Or put Omega Force and Koei Tecmo on notice for putting such little effort into this title.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is a bold but utterly fruitless attempt to revitalize a series that is stuck in its ways, showcasing an open-world that is completely at odds with itself, overwhelming technical issues and diabolical voice-over work.

The first-time attempt to make Dynasty Warriors open-world is valiant, yet ultimately makes the entire game lifeless.

Everything about this game seems completely rushed. To jump onto the open world bandwagon three or four years too late and still deliver such a pile of garbage isn't just embarrassing, it's insulting.

There is a game based on this same part of history that you can buy that lets you move around a big map, fighting enemies, building armies and doing everything that Dynasty Warriors 9 tries to do but better. It was called ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII’ and it came out two years ago and was made by the same company. Do yourself a favour and buy that instead.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is basically the $60 equivalent of a Steam Early Access title, and it’s a slap in the face and the reproductive organs, to fans of the series.

I hope that Koei Tecmo learn from the justifiably negative press that the latest outing of the franchise has received almost across the board and abandon their production of endless sequels, tie-ins and spin-offs in order to reallocate appropriate talent and resources to make the next main entry in the series a game truly worthy of its own dynasty.

Dynasty Warriors 9 suffers from a lot of issues, most stemming from the terribly implemented open-world. Assets are reused, it's buggy, repetitive, bloated, empty and bland. These shortcomings are made all the more painful by the obvious potential this game had, and how fun the base combat can be once players waded through all the other nonsense.

Dynasty Warriors finally gets the overhaul it's long been waiting for… and while it addresses a few old problems it creates just as many new ones.

This is just a terrible entry in the long-running series and deserves to be completely forgotten. Boring, riddled with bugs, and lazily made, it makes me miss the older games.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is extremely repetitive, and it gets to the point of frustration and boredom. The graphics in game are nothing to talk about. It would be different if the game had subpar gameplay and beautiful scenery, but you won't find that here. Unchallenging combat is just salt in the wound. This is not a game I recommend, and its 80 something playable characters cannot save it.

Conceptually interesting fusion of open world and Musou, which due to poor performance and numerous bugs misses the mark.

While not quite an unmitigated disaster, Dynasty Warriors 9 is pretty bad. Even if you can live with the subpar presentation, the game quickly gets boring due to a lack of important or interesting things that can be done in the world. The combat is fine, but with fewer opportunities to use it, the button-mashing joy inherent in the series is nowhere to be found. If the franchise continues down this open-world path, then it'll need some massive improvements — or else fans will start calling for a return to the old formula.

The PC version of Dynasty Warriors 9 is frustrating, more for its wasted potential than anything else. The game is difficult to control on PC, and that significantly hinders a lot of the fun, fast-paced combat, which is all-too scarce at times. Additionally, while the open-world approach is a great direction for the series, it doesn't capture the epic battles that the series is known for in the same way. Maps are either too crowded, or frightfully empty. It's nice to see Omega Force taking the series in a new direction, but this entry hasn't quite found its footing.

Dynasty Warriors 9 couldn't even keep the decent quality the series is known for, in fact it is a huge step back for the series. The open world did more harm than good for the game, and the fact that there is no other mode other than the story mode just made the lifetime of the game shorter. Perhaps the improved combat system and the way the game tells the story will makes it playable for some of the hardcore fans, but the bad AI and the many bugs the game has just makes hard and challenging to finish the game.

Open world might not be the right step for Dynasty Warriors. Something like Dynasty Warriors Empires would be a much better fit, as even hardcore Dynasty Warriors fans are going to have trouble overlooking the problems present in this title.

We'd rather Omega Force just stuck to what they're great at: making excellent hack and slash games. And Dynasty Warriors 9 isn't one of those.
