The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is not a very good game. The story and characters are rather uninspired, and it fails to properly parody the fantasy genre, by falling victim to just as many of its tropes. The dialogue is average at best, and leaves a lot of humorous lines hanging to no applause. The game play kills any possible enjoyment one would get from the story. And for a $29.99 price tag, I would suggest avoiding this title. The same publishing team also ported Sphinx to the Switch recently, and that would be a better use of your money.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a hugely enjoyable game – if you’ve either already played the first or if you’re willing to buy and play the first before diving into the second. I feel bad for saying so many negative things about a game that’s obviously had so much love put into it, so I’ll say this: King Art Games, your work has not gone unappreciated. It’s just a shame that the game doesn’t work on its own.

Even if the controls on the PS4 weren't so terrible and I could have finished the game on the console, the story and puzzles in the rest of The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 still would have brought the game down. If I was reviewing the game on the PC, I would give it a higher rating because the game was playable. It's an absolute shame that I had to finish the game on the PC due to the control difficulties, but maybe it was trying to do me a favor and save me from the rest of it.

An uninspiring attempt at point-and-click nostalgia

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 feels like a game made for those who live in internet meme culture and who believe classic adventure games are the last great phase of video games. The heavy-handed approach at humour is at times hysterical and at others insufferable. Saved mostly by solid gameplay and puzzle mechanics, the biggest issue it faces is not knowing when to stop. Plodding on for hours and hours, the humour wears thin and its strengths are battered by exposure. Were this game to have been half the length it would hold potential for greatness, and that greatness is still there, just stretched thin over far too much canvas.

Severely lacking in originality; Doesn't restrict itself when poking fun at fantasy tropes.

It's missed the mark by becoming very unfocused. If you were a particular fan of the original you will find things here that work for you, but this time it's unfortunately lacking in soul or charm.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a great example of a point-and-click adventure, but, at times, the puzzles that make up a massive portion of the game are awfully difficult to figure out and sometimes don't make much sense. This causes constant hits into brick walls when it comes to progress and makes it drag on for several hours longer than it should already do. One massive redeeming factor is how wonderfully written it is, though; two or three chuckles are guaranteed.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a fairly standard point and click game, but it is also a wonderfully written and fundamentally enjoyable adventure that will appeal to both genre veterans, and people simply looking to a good, clean, fun little title.

Those looking for a solid point and click title will find it in The Book of Unwritten Tales 2's reasonably large campaign, though its somewhat basic puzzle design is a shame. Dialogue between characters can often feel a tad overzealous considering the game's light-hearted approach to comedy, making it hard to recommend to anyone unable to stomach an inoffensive, self-aware fantasy romp of this fashion.

Combine the puzzles with top-notch graphics and plentiful entertaining dialogue, and you have something worth playing. The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a vast and well-executed game that will satisfy many players and leave them a bit better off than they were before.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a decent return to a genre that's starting to emerge from the woodwork of other games on the market, but it's not quite a shining example. There's a question in regards to its pacing and execution in some spots, as well as some puzzles that can take time to resolve. That said, those that do get into the game will be rewarded with a worthy presentation and plenty of chuckles. If you're a fan of the genre, it's worth a look. But don't expect this Book to be absorbed so easily.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 constantly runs back and forth between greatness and mediocrity, yet it manages to generally be a fine piece of software. Its most serious flaw is the chore-like style of many of its puzzles, which force players to solve lots of them in return for a measly amount of progress. Luckily, the beautiful graphics, good gameplay, great characters, and well-written and humorous dialogue sequences can severely outshine this problem. While it would be best for newcomers to the genre to try something else, fans of it are advised to not let it pass them by.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is an enjoyable game at its budget price, with a pleasing mix of adventure, humour and some head scratching puzzles. There are some negative points which stop the game from being a fully fledged win, but it is still an enjoyable and nostalgic experience for any gamer with a love of point-and-click styled experiences.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is undoubtedly a fun and well-written point and click adventure which features very challenging (if sometimes frustrating) puzzles, an involving plot and a laudable art style. It would be an easy game to recommend to nearly everyone were it not for its exaggerated price compared to the same game on other platforms and being a point and click adventure, it could certainly benefit from touch screen controls.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 brings back point-n-click adventures to the Wii U in a game that offers well-written dialogues and plenty of humorous situations in the background of a visually rich and polished environment. Despite the lack of interaction through the GamePad, The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a game that will certainly please fans of the genre, after the dearth of point-n-click titles over recent years.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a pretty well-made point-and-click adventure game. Unfortunately, there were some bizarre design choices made and the odd bug that hinder the experience. However, if you don't mind point-and-click games, like solving some interesting puzzles and some quirky comedy thrown in, there aren't many better alternatives than The Book of Unwritten Tales 2.
