BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle might be rough around the edges and have some questionable DLC choices, though it doesn't stop it from looking great or being fun. The number of tutorials are great, with there being an okay amount for players to do. Sure, it isn't the most jam packed game Arc System Works has ever released but if you're looking for a new fighting or just enjoy the series included, odds are you'll get your moneys worth out of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle.

Despite a weak solo mode and an excessive DLC storefront, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is an excellent outsider in the fighting genre this year.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is a fun fighting game that succeeds in taking three very different games (and a western anime) and reaching a compromise on what system to use.

Overall, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is another solid fighter from the newly crowned king of fighters, but it is also a disappointingly smaller package than what fans expect from the publisher.

All in all, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is an excellent fighting game. Thanks to gorgeous presentation, robust mechanics, and an entertaining story mode, it stands out as one of the better, if not the best fighting game this generation.

Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle isn't Arc System Works' crowning achievement. The graphics could use some cleaning up, especially on the characters, and the reduction in modes for offline play will hurt those who are used to the series being rich in that area. The fighting is solid both online and offline, and it's easy enough for players of all skill levels to enjoy. It really is the DLC plan that's a big decision point for players. With no timetable about when all of the fighters will be released, the smart move for the more casual set would be to wait until everything is out first and see if the company will release a more complete version later on. Otherwise, if you can't wait, you're in for a solid fighting experience.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is a magical mixture of 4 japanese franchise that satisfies the fans of this long running series with some quality elements. Unfortunately, it's yet another microtransaction-based game and some of the characters can be accessed only through paying real bucks.

There is no arcade mode here, which only means that this will likely get an improved version later down the road with it included.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is an interesting crossver and a great fighting game, however, it presents a strange duality. Its systems were designed to appeal to a newer audience, but the tutorials aren't very detailed and the single player modes aren't enough to prepare the player for the online mode. The simplification of the battle systems also helped experienced players to develop new techniques in a matter of days that are absurdly strong. The online mode is great and should extend the game lifespan, especially for the more dedicated crowd. Thus, Cross Tag Battle is a recommended title for those that are already familiar with each series and intend to dedicate some serious time to it.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is an incredibly fun and varied fighting game with some great combat mechanics. It is the lack of content and a poor character roster for a fighting game crossover that makes it an overall disappointing product.

For all its DLC problems and lacklustre content, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is still a fun fighting game to play both online and offline. It is a much more simplified and newbie-friendly BlazBlue game than any in the main series, but that doesn't prevent it from having anything going for it. These franchises deserved better, though; this should have been a bigger celebration of Arc System Works' characters, and it's a real pity that more love wasn't put into it. With any luck, a complete package will release in the future - hopefully with some extra modes that do the BlazBlue name some justice.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is far from Arc System Work's best fighter, but it remains a very fun diversion.

The hectic gameplay, cool visuals and robust offline and online experiences make it one of the better fighters out on the Switch right now. It's easy to get lost if you're diving headfirst into the series, and to be really good probably takes a lot of practice. But it captures everything that makes tag battle games fun and delivers in one visually striking package.
