Each year, WWE 2K seems to be gradually getting better and better, and in WWE 2K19, the series appears to be making moves towards reestablishing itself as the enjoyable grappling game it once was. We live in hope that even bigger changes will be introduced for WWE 2K20, because WWE 2K19 is certainly a step in the right direction.

WWE 2K19 is a solid step up from last year's title. It offers a bit more in terms of content, and a deeper MyPlayer mode. I still wish they would ease up on the control scheme complication a bit, maybe shifting back to an easier control scheme that focuses on fun, rather than trying to make the wrestling experience a challenge. Wrestling is a fun sport to watch, so controlling it should be equally as fun. Definitely a solid release overall, though, so you won't be disappointed.

Overall, WWE 2K19 is a decent addition to the franchise because it add more features and fun gameplay modes than ever before. However, there are still some flaws that are present that ruins some of the fun. Still, the game is fun to play if you are a huge WWE fan.

If that reminds you of a situation that currently involves Roman Reigns, then you'll see why I'm so convinced WWE 2K19 is the best WWE port 2K Sports has ever made. Just like the real WWE, there are different audiences even within the same fandom, and there will be plenty of gamers who are blown away by the depth and tweaks made to WWE 2K19. WWE 2K19 is a great WWE game that is only a good wrestling game, and feels like it has reached the end of what is possible within the constraints of the WWE 2K series as we know it.

This year's WWE 2K release does a lot of things right but still has a way to go in order to lock down the genre with fans.

This puts me in a weird spot. For better or worse, I really think WWE 2K19 really captures the current WWE product very well while also commending those who have made their way to the squared circle in years past. It presents some solid ideas that are really needed to make this series worthwhile. Unfortunately, like almost every iteration before this, those ideas are not executed well. This is primarily due to gameplay. While there are some great implementations like the payback and overcharge abilities, it is still the same ol' gameplay you know from the series. Yet again, if you are into the WWE, you may find some enjoyment. Anyone outside of the WWE universe may find it hard to hit the ropes on this one.

It's not perfect, but WWE 2K19 is a massive and fun return to form that focuses on what truly matters inside the iconic ring and delivers a pulse-pounding thrill ride that finally feels like a showcase of the immortals.

Overall, WWE 2K19 is a solid wrestling game. Gameplay wise, it's leaps and bounds over previous entries. The creation suite is always getting better, and the 2K Showcase mode has never been better. Unfortunately, it's let down by a handful of undercooked modes that desperately need to be fleshed out.

Even though WWE 2K19 doesn't offer the graphical overhaul the franchise so desperatly deserves, it takes quite a few steps in the right direction. Its new modes are fun, the Showcase mode makes a triumphant return and its new features are well thought out. WWE 2K19 clearly gives WWE fans something to have a good time with.

It definitely has its issues, but WWE 2K19 is the best game in the 2K series so far. Packed with content to work through and enjoyable MyCareer and Showcase modes, you'd be remiss not to give it a crack if you're a wrestling fan.

All things considered, WWE 2K19 is a decent entry into the long-running series. Boasting more game modes and customisation options than you can shake a Kendo stick at. What holds it back, however, is the core mechanics. A breath of fresh air in last year's game, they lack any additional refinement, leaving them feeling overly complex and finicky. Which ultimately serves as a reminder that, as enjoyable as WWE 2K19 can be, if the series is ever to recapture the ineffable brilliance of No Mercy and other such classics, it desperately needs a rather large dose of innovation.

Is WWE 2K19 championship material? Not quite, but developers Yuke's and Visual Concepts have made some important strides in the right direction. WWE 2K19 hulks up with some smart new mechanics, a well-produced Daniel Bryan Showcase, and a much-improved MyCareer mode. Does the game still suffer from some in-ring issues and a general lack of polish? Yes, but WWE 2K19 feels like it might just be the first chapter of an inspiring comeback story.

All in all, WWE 2K19 feels like a game in which annual players will find enough to enjoy, but anyone looking to make their way back into the ring is best to wait it out in the locker room for another year.

WWE 2K19 hasn't changed much at its core, but the smaller alterations to the overall package make it a vastly more enjoyable experience to previous instalments. Introducing a proper story to MyCareer gives players an actual reason to play it this year and it's a genuinely engaging experience. The increased depth of the player creation suite means each superstar feels different from the next, while quality of life improvements in Universe will be music to the ears of diehard fans. All of this adds up to make WWE 2K19 the best entry of this long-running series.
