I felt like I was a kid again finding those insects underneath the rocks, but running away at the bees that came out at times. Light on content, but a satisfying little romp that will be sure to charm everyone. Despite a price tag of $40, the game is sure to be an entertaining experience for the player. I would recommend this title to anyone who wants to try a little something new, and for Mario series fans alike – this game has something for everyone.

The most promising surprise, though, is how Nintendo transformed a popular genre that had become all too steeped in darkness and hand-wringing seriousness into a family-friendly affair without losing any of its edge.

With its camera manipulation and touch controls Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker feels like one of those rare titles that is uniquely designed with the Wii U in mind, a game that just wouldn't be possible to this level of quality on another platform. It's not a definitive reason to pick up a Wii U, but if you already own then this is one of the best showcases of its playful potential yet. Chock full of variety and stunning to look at, this would be a fantastic addition to any Nintendo fan's library.

If you want a cute little puzzle game to sink a couple of dozen hours of relatively enjoyable gameplay in to, by all means, pick up Captain Toad. It is a solid game well worth the price point. But it is mostly meant for the hard core Nintendo fan or the younger crowd.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a game I never thought I'd see on the 3DS, and I could never have imagined it being ported so smoothly. With no compromise to the gameplay experience, this is Captain Toad. On the 3DS. If you want wonderful puzzles, colourful and diverse environments, replayability, and challenge. If you're ready for an adventure I would call timeless, you are ready for Captain Toad.

If you already own or have played Captain Toad on Wii U, the greater majority of the game is likely to feel identical. A lot of it is very familiar the second time around, including the exact spots of hidden objects and how to avoid all the hurdles in your way. While there’s still a good amount of fun things to do packed in, now would have been more fitting for a Captain Toad sequel. Nevertheless, Captain Toad can hold up as a thoroughly enjoyable standalone game, especially to newcomers. There are over 70 levels to trek through, complete with a plethora of collectibles and secrets to uncover that will keep even the most dedicated fans engaged for numerous hours.

Everything has been improved upon since his adventures in Super Mario 3D World. The game pad does distract from the beauty of the main screen, however it's a worthwhile tradeoff as the new abilities and level types that take advantage of it are a joy to use, it's just a shame about the inability to turn off gyroscopic camera controls for those that don't use them. Regardless, Captain Toad's first solo outing is as golden as the treasure he tracks.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a refreshing game and one that is charming and deceptively difficult at times. I enjoyed my brief romp through the Mushroom Kingdom and would like to see Captain Toad and Toadette in bigger and grander adventures in the future. For now though Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker should be recommended to puzzle and platformer fans alike as it delivers a solid experience with a boatload of personality to go with it.

'Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker' is truly a gem of a game to play. It is also one of the biggest Wii U surprises I've had since first buying the console. Who would have thought that developing a handful of mini-games for 'Super Mario 3D World' could turn into such a charming game? Although fairly short, the overall experience is one that I will not soon forget. 'Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker' simply should not be missed.

Captain Toad has its little secrets, tiny rewards, difficulty level that blooms at a leisurely pace. By the pound, what Captain Toad offers most is interactive charm. Nintendo confirms that the chef received your compliments and your complaints. This experience is new and old, the closest approximation of the feel of 8-bit NES friction in some time. Here we have a simple broth that plays on the tongue in a zesty way, both familiar and fresh.

Another good title from Nintendo, but with a bit more content, could have been a great one.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker may be a humble little game that may not aim very high, but it succeeds as a quality and polished title for those who want a relaxing and easy going adventure-puzzle game. An excellent game for the kids, and any Nintendo enthusiast will enjoy this mellow title as an alternative to the frantic battles of Bayonetta 2, the wacky races of Mario Kart 8 or the beat downs of Super Smash Bros. Sometimes a fun guy just wants to chill and go on an adventure.

If anything, the release of Captain Toad goes to show just how confident Nintendo is, and more so with how much it understands its audience. In a blockbuster season filled with plenty of firearms and fistfights, Captain Toad shows us more creativity and style than many new IPs out there.

Halfway between Fez and the best Screwball Scramble set ever created, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a quietly brilliant puzzler. It could stand to be longer and slightly more challenging, but Nintendo have turned a simple premise into something truly lovely.

A sneaky surprise of a game. An absolute treat that feels like Nintendo loosening up a little and experimenting with their characters and worlds once again. I look forward to what they're cooking up next. Give Toad a go, you won't regret it.
