Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland
Top Critic Average
Crippled by disappointing writing, Atelier Lulua also fails at delivering enough nostalgic content to veteran fans of the Atelier series. Little interaction with popular past characters and late, expensive DLC eventually shatter the Arland dream, and substitute characters fade in comparison. Solid gameplay & challenge otherwise
Atelier Lulua is a fun game to play in small spurts. It combines crafting/gathering with a decent JRPG combat system. While crafting and gathering can be tedious at times, the general concept is pretty fun. Discovering new ways to create better items is where the real fun lies.
I think that longtime fans will enjoy this one, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that this could also serve as a starting point for newcomers as well. Atelier games are remarkably consistent in quality. Even though Lulua may not blow the doors off in a number of ways, it’s a nice little game that knows how to show you a good time.
The enhancements fitted to Atelier Lulua easily make it the most approachable game in the subseries, despite it not being completely free of faults.
GOOD - Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland is a massive improvement over the other entries of the Atelier series on the Switch. The colorful visuals, exceptional crafting system, and gameplay enhancements make this a fun and rewarding experience in its own right. However, the overly simplistic story, uninspired level designs, and other minor issues keep it from reaching greatness. This is the perfect introduction to the Atelier series and a good place to jump in.
Atelier Lulua is a great game. Cruising through the story at a great pace and never tripping over my own feet to understand the gameplay. If I had to describe this game in one word it would be "Simplicity", as it does a wonderful job of guiding you through each and every new and old discoveries. I'm glad to be able to experience a 4th part to the Arland storyline. It's fun for long time fans to enjoy and easy enough to grasp for newcomers. I'm giving this game a 9 out of 10 for being nostalgic and playful.
From gorgeous graphics to deep crafting and combat systems, Lulua is an impressive game.
Overall, Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland is a remarkably, bright, and colorful JRPG that JRPG enthusiasts or newcomers should experience. Its collection of characters, unique gameplay trifecta, and whimsical presentation provide a different and distinct JRPG experience that players will embark, enjoy, and remember long after the credits roll.
Atelier Lulua is up there with the best that the series has to offer.
