Kunos delivers a frequently brilliant take on the Blancpain GT series - but it's beset by a feeling of being unfinished.

The console versions of Assetto Corsa Competizione are capable of great racing, but they're also riddled with problems.

Kunos brings the full sim experience to console, warts and all, with a few oversights and errors along the way.

An interesting racing simulator that lacks a wider variety of options but still manages to retain part of what made the original Assetto Corsa a huge surprise a few years ago.

Despite some cutbacks and limitations compared to the PC version, the sensations remain intact, unique sensations that only Kunos Simulazioni can offer today on console.

Assetto Corsa Competizione offers the best sim racing experience on the market in terms of feeling, immersion and handling. There's still room to polish and improve some features and add more content, but Kunos Simulazioni just had a burning start and goes straight to the first corner leading the group.

With a career mode lacking in substance, strange bugs and a limited set of content, Assetto Corsa Competizione is hard to recommend. Perhaps in 2021, with a slew of patches and DLC expansions it will be in a better place, but for now, Assetto Corsa Competizione is a superlative solo driving experience trapped in a flawed video game.

Assetto Corsa Competizione for PS4 is a good porting for one of the best driving simulation available right now, that despite a few compromises keeps a racing experience similar to the PC version.

Assetto Corsa Competizione is a racing simulator with so much potential, but Kunos Simulazioni and d3t engineers haven't managed to prepare it for a good performance in PS4 and Xbox One since the very first race. If they prepare some updates in the factory, maybe it will be able to compite for the victories in the future.

Where the original console release of Assetto Corsa Competizione had some huge caveats hanging over it, the game's release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S brings it up to spec, effectively matching the PC version. It still has some weaknesses in presentation and structure for new players in particular, but once you get into the groove, it's one of the best sim racers you can buy right now.

Sim racing fans clamored for years for a serious console racing sim. They have finally had their wish granted. Assetto Corsa Competizione instantly becomes the premiere realistic console racing simulation game despite the hardware limitations of the current-gen. That doesn’t make it the best console racer, just the most realistic. [OpenCritic note: Lou Sytsma separately reviewed the PC (70) and PS4 (80) versions. The scores have been averaged.]

When released on the PS4 and Xbox One, ACC shot to the top of true sim console racers. It attained this title despite the limitations of those consoles. The PS5 and Xbox Series solidify ACC’s dominance. For the first time in sim racing history, a console version can share the starting grid spot with its PC brother.

With its massively upgraded visual presentation and much more responsive racing together with a surprisingly immersive DualSense implementation, one of the best hardcore racing simulators out just got even better on PS5. This is the definitive version of Assetto Corsa Competizione on console and that fact alone should be a cause for celebration for anyone with even a passing interest in highly detailed racing simulations.

Assetto Corsa Competizione may someday be a top-notch racing simulator, but then again it might not. As of version 1.0, ACC is a study of the potential costs of releasing a product too soon. There is a lot of potential on display, but there is also a great deal left to be either fixed or finished. The current state of the VR implementation is very sub-par, and the most common form of head tracking, TrackIR, has not been implemented at all. Adopt a wait and see strategy for now - eventually/hopefully continued updates will fix the most egregious problems.

There's more than just an endurance racing licence to distinguish Assetto Corsa Competizione from its predecessor. It's more polished, more precise, and offers more scope for long-term single-player satisfaction.Phil Iwaniuk
