It’s hard to play Concrete Genie and not be charmed by it. You can just tell that a whole lot of love has been put into making it. It may not be complex in terms of gameplay, and many of its mechanics feel appropriated from other games, but it’s surprising and unique in numerous ways. As soon as you’ve created your first genie and witnessed it joyously spring to life, you’ll fall in love with it. After that, the time flies by like you’re having fun with a friend. Concrete Genie is all about bringing light into a world that has grown dark. I think we could all do with a bit of that, couldn’t we?

Concrete Genie is an enjoyable title, very pleasant and with excellent ideas behind it. There are many possibilities for customizing the Genes and the most imaginative players will be able to create works of good thickness. If the plot had delved deeper into the main theme, if the gameplay had not been split in two so abruptly and if the longevity had been a little higher, Concrete Genie would have reached higher peaks, but the general experience remains satisfactory.

Concrete Genie is visually striking and offers a chill artistic experience, but its rote combat and by-the-numbers narrative greatly bring it down as the game progresses.

If you are going to buy Concrete Genie buy it for the novelty. You'll probably enjoy painting the town with glorious neon landscapes, but there's just not much more to it than that.

I haven't had a game hit me emotionally quite as Concrete Genie has. An emotional story blended with beautiful artwork and seamless gameplay creates an incredible experience. I am beyond impressed with Pixelopus's work and you can easily see all the blood, sweat and tears poured into the game. Concrete genie may not scratch the gameplay itch that you have but rather it delivers an important story to tell. I highly recommend it for any hardcore gaming fan as well as the creative types.

Concrete Genie certainly has a vandal's heart, but this creatively-oriented PlayStation 4 exclusive struggles to tie its various mechanics together.

A naive, emotional and pleasant story is complemented by enjoyable gameplay. You'll find yourself coming back to the game to paint some more.

Concrete Genie is certainly easy on the eyes and ears, with brilliant colors popping out of the screen and a light, airy score to coaxe life out of your paintings. It even successfully switches around the perspective of a strained parent-child relationship compared to what we've seen in other games. Unfortunately the monotonous nature of everything in between creating Genies, from dodging bullies to dousing Denska with Super Paint, drags it down.

I liked the intentions of the game. But while it did have a big twist, I felt like it was more of a short story than a long narrative.

If the sympathetic capital of the creatures of Concrete Genie is undeniable, for all the rest, the title developed by the Californian studio Pixelopus barely shine beyond its singular artistic direction. Without an original proposal of gameplay and a very limited interaction with the nice monsters, the progression is tasteless, remote-controlled and we will quickly choose to move from motion detection to the right stick, which says a lot about the success of the game initial concept.

Concrete Genie is like an art piece made by the player, even though it is short but it's one of the most unique experiences of this generation.

Concrete Genie is a fantastic game that lets you explore a beautifully realised town as well as your own imagination. While there are some tiny annoyances, Concrete Genie is so dedicated to making you feel creative that you'll barely notice them as you play.

Concrete Genie is a game with a positive message that’s ultimately held back by its execution. While I appreciate Sony’s efforts to let its in-house studios experiment with smaller titles, I’m just not sure that this one will be remembered as fondly as the other PS4 indie exclusives.

Overall, Concrete Genie is such a great medium for educating children on the effects of being a bully and practicing their virtuoso skills at the same time. Parents won't have any problems with language nor content. Casual gameplay that will make you blissful most of the time. A Storyline that will keep you wanting to discover more, not just the characters back story but what happens eventually when you save Denska. I am displeased with that glitched pathway and awkward parkour movement but overall I still enjoyed the game and I understand loud and clear the message it wants to shout to its audience.

Concrete Genie’s biggest failing is how it had some many avenues to be ‘more’ than a good game, but never manages to fully traverse any one of them. It’s likely the best game from 2019 that you’ll have forgotten in 2020.

I had a great time with Concrete Genie, while it’s scale and length isn’t as large as other Sony titles, it offers a well paced story, enjoyable characters and ways to flex your creative side even if you have no real-world artistic skill. Those with PSVR headsets will also enjoy it’s first person painting modes that offer a place to peacefully create art. It has a few issues that can likely be fixed up in future patches but for the most part Concrete Genie is a really enjoyable ride and has me hoping to see more titles of this size and scale from Sony in the future.

Concrete Genie is an excellent example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. It's not groundbreaking, or really exemplary in any single measure, but everything comes together in a way many games don't. It's charming, wholesome, and a complete realization of an original vision. It's a perfect palette-cleanser experience, and more importantly, it's wonderfully unique.

Despite its short playtime and lack of focus (in terms of combat being tacked onto the last hour of the game), I cannot deny that I had fun bringing my adorable Genie companions and paintings to life, which is what matters in the end.
