Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution Reviews
Collecting the cards from any TCG series is fantastic and rewarding, but realistically not everyone can afford to participate in such a hobby.
With no microtransactions, a constant stream of cards to unlock and a streamlined recreation of all six seasons of the anime, this ranks as one of the best CCGs on Switch – if you can overlook its somewhat irksome issues.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is a great companion to the Trading Card Game and is essential for anyone who enjoys the franchise.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution definitely skews toward the hardcore fan that has kept up with the card game over the past decade, but its campaign still offers a lot for those that dropped out after the original series or are interested in seeing what’s up with 5D’s or ZEXAL.
The bottom line is this: the gameplay, abundance of cards, and fan service mean that those looking for a virtual Yu-Gi-Oh! card game experience have come to the right place. The overwhelming learning curve and lack of production values means that it's probably not the best way for newcomers to experience the series though.
New and old fans alike will find something to love in Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution. Featuring several generations of the iconic series and over 150 duels from the show, there's plenty of content to keep you occupied. It's not the perfect replacement for a physical deck of cards, but it sure comes close.
With over 9,000 cards at our disposal as well as being able to relive the anime, Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is everything I could have hoped for. [OpenCritic note: Thi Chao separately reviewed the Switch (80) and PC (78) versions. Their scores have been averaged.]
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is the perfect game for lovers of this franchise. A remarkable longevity and many playing cards ensure many hours of fun, despite the unforgivable laziness on the visual side.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is a great compilation of the franchise's history. With tons of challenging campaign duels, duelist challenges, and battle packs, there's plenty to scratch that card game itch. Multiplayer is scarce and laggy, so I'd steer clear.
With over 10,000 cards for your deck, this is the perfect game for longtime Yu-Gi-Oh! lovers.

Relive epic battles from every Yu-Gi-Oh! series to date, build and customize your own decks, and challenge yourself online. Full of content with over 9000 cards to collect, all without microtransactions. A definite must buy for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans and a great choice for those new to the franchise. Get out there and Duel!
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is the most complete Yu-Gi-Oh! title to date, with a great pricetag for its infinitely replayable content.
With a new handheld format comes a new Yu-Gi-Oh! title, and while Link Evolution offers a compelling and modernised take on the Card Game for both fans and novices alike, with almost infinite play styles and strategy possibilities, it retains the stale interface and storytelling of its original form.
There will never be a Yu-Gi-Oh game that is quite the same as simply playing with real cards, but Legacy of the Duelist is the closest that we have ever gotten to the real thing.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist was already one of the highest regarded games when it came to current Yu-Gi-Oh! titles, but now with the game making it’s way to the Nintendo Switch with the Link Evolution version it’s hard to argue that this isn’t the definitive version of the game. It’s packed full of value, including all of the previous add-ons, 5 full campaigns, over 9000 cards and it’s all playable on the go. I think Yu-Gi-Oh! fans are going to get a real kick out of the game, but it’s also extremely friendly to newcomers that may have never tried Yu-Gi-Oh! before.
All in all, I really enjoyed Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution. Even with its flaws, it’s easily the best video game in the series to date. There’s a ton to keep you busy, and I’ve easily spent 30-40 hours already just for the sake of this review. The biggest issue I have with it is that it doesn’t do enough to court players unfamiliar with the nuance and newfound complexity of the game. Things like the Forbidden and Limited List are also confusing, in that they aren’t the most recent version, but instead seem a mishmash of previous lists. But if you can look past that sort of thing, you get a lot of bang for your buck for only $39.99. If you’re a fan of the series and are eager for an excuse to dive in and test out new deck ideas, then you’ll enjoy the game. Just be ready to spend a long time grinding for the cards you need.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of The Duelist: Link Evolution is the most ambicious game of the franchise. Relive the adventures of the famous Yugi Muto and more than 20 years of duels.

Even if you’re a lasped Yu-Gi-Oh player like I was, this is still absolutely worth a look, and serves as a great tutorial for the main card game along with being a great place to experiment with gimmick decks.
While this version isn’t a major step up from the original release four years ago, Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is a perfect match on the Nintendo Switch. Being able to pick up and play a few battles here and there is ideal for handheld play.
