I lost hours and days to this game with a blink. Whether you’re looking for a new ARPG, or just a little more time with an old favorite, Torchlight 2 won’t let you down.

Genre veterans may want to pause and think before buying, as there isn’t a whole lot here you haven’t seen before, but it’s tough to argue that you won’t enjoy the time you spend with this one.
Seven years after its initial release, Torchlight 2 finally graces the console generation and proves that you don't have to have Diablo in your title to make an impact. Torchlight 2 is a near-perfect dungeon crawler that no fan of the genre can afford to miss.
Age hasn't slowed Torchlight 2 down and being able to play on the consoles is just the shot of adrenaline the series needed to get us excited for the future release of Torchlight Frontiers.
It's no longer the Diablo killer it used to be, but this remains a superior dungeon crawler, with great action and loot that still puts it amongst the genre's best.
At the risk of sounding overly infatuated, I cannot begin to understand how the hell Torchlight II has aged so well. The art style, combat mechanics, and even loot drop loop are so finely tuned that it feels like the game fits in as well now as it did, seven years ago. With the obvious exception of the big boys over at Blizzard, the argument could be made that this is the best dungeon crawler on current generation consoles. Factor in the price tag of a mere $20, and this becomes an instant must buy. Just do yourself a favor and download this game. You can thank me later. …Don't worry. I'll wait.
Torchlight II is an older title that feels its age at times. Nevertheless, it remains a solid example of its genre and will keep you occupied for hours on end. Multiplayer, an expansive upgrade system, and a sea of worthwhile loot make up for the repetitive gameplay.
Overall, Torchlight II is a very solid console port. The gameplay loop is generally satisfying despite the minor annoyances, and can even feel a bit zen once the player manages to sink fully into the rhythm. Torchlight II does not do anything remarkable for the action hack-and-slash genre, but functions as a good spiritual successor to Diablo II and makes for a good alternative for hack-and-slash fans who were put off by Diablo III.
It just doesn't go above and beyond, feeling more generic overall. This is a Diablo-like game that feels a whole lot like Diablo, but doesn't carve out enough of an identity on its own to leave a lasting impression. Still, the only games of this genre that do the raw gameplay better are the ones that snuck their way into this review as a modifier to explain the style of game this is.
Torchlight 2 on consoles has a new look and great performance, but it remains true to its origins, which can be both good and bad depending on who you ask.

We are facing one of the best exponents of Action RPG that we can find on consoles. Flowing action, continuous progression, ease of use, perfect playability and an artistic finish that maintains the type 7 years later ... whatever we say is little to extol a game that you are forced to buy if you did not already enjoy it on PC

The Switch port of Torchlight 2 is tremendous, however the lack of simple, local co-op multiplayer is slightly disappointing
Released at roughly the same time, Torchlight II shows just how much Diablo III has improved since launch, and the level of effort put into its console ports. While Diablo III is absolutely impeccable on console, Torchlight II feels neutered and a bit stunted.
