With all of this in mind, Cyberpunk 2077 ends up being one of those games that can be frustrating to love. There are good design elements all over, from a menu option disabling licensed music for streaming to quests that completely change based on whether you choose to go in guns blazing or stay hidden and make sense both ways. The main and side quests are all packed full of great story, the characters are fun to get to know… and yet despite all of the effort that went into this game, we also see the bad design choices I discussed above and an unplayable console version. If you can take the places where it’s a bad example and remember to do better in your own life, and maybe wait until it’s been patched into working, there’s an amazing game here that you can be glad you experienced.

Cyberpunk 2077 is broken on last-generation consoles. That doesn't mean you can't see the finer details of the game, but you simply cannot enjoy them because of that brokenness. Where the game succeeds is in story, beautiful RPG elements, and a strong amount of customization that makes it feel like 'your' game and story. At the same time, Cyberpunk isn't unique as the game feels like an amalgamation of Fallout and Bladerunner.  Ultimately, aside from the game-breaking bugs, the game has good aspects that could have been great with a little more time in development.

Cyberpunk 2077 was never going to live up to the grand promises made by CD Projekt Red, but its problems stem deeper than bugs resulting from its rushed development.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a new masterpiece from CD Projekt RED, a huge, dense, vibrant, colorfoul and dark Sci-Fi RPG that any fan of the genre should step in. First because it will provide the sensation that the story really depends on you choices and that you have everything you need for your playstyle. Then because streets, stores, buildings, inhabitants of Night City won't get out of your head easily. You'll be happy to interact with Keanu Reeves, but the real star is this city and all it provides in terms of atmosphere, game mechanics and stories. [OpenCritic note: Gianni Molinaro separately reviewed the next-gen (10) and current-gen (4) versions. The scores have been averaged.]

I fell in love with Night City, warts and all. If its many bugs can get ironed out, Cyberpunk 2077 is a potential Game of the Year candidate. Here’s hoping that CD Projekt Red can quickly push out fixes.

Cyberpunk 2077 will ultimately be optimized for every platform and the major bugs will likely be squashed, but it's real problems will remain.  A lack of gameplay and systems that matter leave the game feeling uninspired, even if some of the conversations and characters in this world are the best we've seen in quite some time.

I’d love nothing more than to sit here and tell you that it’s a perfect game and that you won’t have any issues playing it. Sadly, that isn’t the case. In its current state, Cyberpunk 2077 has a strong story and world, but those strengths are weighed down by bad design decisions and bugs aplenty.

When played on PC, Cyberpunk 2077 is still an impressive, engrossing, and fun RPG despite its flaws. However, assuming that CD Projekt Red sticks to its word and fixes its problems, it has all the potential to be a genuine classic of its genre. As such, it’s difficult to recommend playing it at its worst, when its best could be something special.

Cyberpunk 2077 has standout side quests and strong main characters, though its buggy, superficial world and lack of purpose bring it down.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game of the generation, but its technical and gameplay ambitions can get hampered by either perplexing design decisions or hardware that most gamers have. The open-world futuristic Night City and the people who reside in it are some of gaming's most memorable ones and the story captures the essence of Cyberpunk beautifully.

It’s unfortunate that the hype train got so carried away during the years long lead up to Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt RED definitely didn’t help with their marketing that leaned into the hyperbolic expectations. It made the backlash more powerful and more negative than this game probably deserved. This Next-Gen version isn’t hot trash or unplayable but it definitely has benefited from having another year and a half in the oven. One can only hope that the industry and its community members learn how to manage expectations and avoid this mistake in the future, but if human history has taught us anything, that’s not likely.

CD Projekt RED did something incredible. They managed to create the game that you wholeheartedly wish to keep playing in spite of all the bugs, broken mechanics and bland gameplay. Cyberpunk 2077 was saved by its narration. Night City feels alive thanks to its breathtaking design, well-developed characters and multi-layered quests. Although it is not the messiah that we were promised, it still is a good game.

CD Projekt Red has laid the foundation for serious potential but possibly should have waited until 2077 to release the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a title that aims at what the best that the video game industry can offer us in terms of creative content on a differentiated and interactive experience. Admittedly, its' troubled launch does not help in the general evaluation of the title. Nevertheless, the foundations are very solid and the final product, after being properly revised, has the possibility of becoming a reference in the current video games panorama. For now we remain expectantly waiting for the next steps of the producer and how this experience can grow.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an expansive and entertaining journey, but one that feels like it comes with a ton of caveats. Exploring Night City and seeing all it offers can be a blast but is usually accompanied by some glitches along the way. Combat, while not revolutionary, is still very satisfying and never gets old. There is a great game here, but sometimes it doesn’t feel like it lives up to its full potential with its performance issues.

We were expecting a GOTY, instead we played a game that has unforgivable bugs. Instead of playing in this 'unfinished' state, we suggest you to wait for updates.

I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy the majority of my time in Night City but for every step forward, the game takes one or two back. And then clips through the floor, and blames it on a woman. And then crashes.

Night City still shines with a wide cast of memorable characters and beautifully executed atmosphere that demonstrates just how good CD Projekt Red is at story telling, it's just a shame so much of the overall experience of Cyberpunk 2077 is all held together by pieces of scotch tape.

Cyberpunk 2077 tells a compelling story with an excellent assortment of characters but fails to deliver on the promises of a living, breathing open-world. All of these faults are amplified by a messy user interface, unengaging combat, and shoddy performance across multiple platforms.
