Tokyo Mirage Sessions never really captures the best of either of its inspirations, always feeling like a crossover that mixes the elements of both Persona and Fire Emblem, but never blends them fully. However, that doesn't take away that this is a fun and fulfilling JRPG, even if it's not what we expected, and most definitely deserved a second lease on life on the Nintendo Switch.

Similar to the original Wii U version, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore remains an experience worth playing. It might not appeal to everyone but if you can get past the idol elements and some of the rough parts, it's a challenging RPG that has plenty of style and charm. Enough to warrant playing and certainly enough to keep most players invested in the long haul.

Tokyo Mirage Sessssions #FE was one of the most colorful, entertaining and visually amazing games from the Wii U that, sadly, most people ignored. Now, this new port for the Nintendo Switch serves as a second chance to get into this fabulous game, all while it adds a fair amount of extra content (previous DLC and new materials) that turn it into the most complete version of the title. It's one game that many will enjoy, specially fans from the RPG genre, the Fire Emblem and/or Shin Megami Tensei/Persona series and, even so those one who played the original title.

A second chance to discover one of the most fresh JRPGs of recent memory. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is pretty much a Persona game with a bit of Fire Emblem here and there, so if you love the genre, you shouldn't miss it... Even if you despise J-POP.

All in all, I’m still very much a fan of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE after beating Encore. It’s basically the same game, just with a bit of extra content thrown in and some minor quality of life improvements such as the Quick Session option and faster load times. While I was ultimately unimpressed with the EX Story, I still appreciate being able to play one of my favorite Wii U exclusives on my Switch portably. If you’re a fan of Japanese culture and love crazy RPGs full of heart, you owe it to yourself to play Encore. Now I just have to cross my fingers and pray we get a true sequel that improves on this already fantastic experience.

For fans who are looking for an amazing RPG experience, and for Shin Megami Fans who have yet to dive into the world of Fire Emblem, this is an amazing entry point to familiarise yourself with it’s lore. While it’s completely different from what is expected from a standard Fire Emblem, it is what we’ve come to expect from ATLUS and their incredible creativity. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is an essential for any JRPG lovers, and Nintendo Switch owners.

It only slightly improves upon the original, so it might not be worth double dipping, but for newcomers, it’s a real treat. Honestly, it was worth picking up for myself, because the original couldn’t play on the Wii U Gamepad. Now fans can have Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE on the go, and they’ll have dozens of hours to kill with this title.

Aside from the ridiculous lack of an autosave feature, I absolutely adored my time with this bright and colorful game. If I wasn't admiring the gorgeous aesthetics, I was bopping to the catchy soundtrack. And on top of that, the combat system proved to fun enough to keep me engaged from start to finish.

Time hasn’t aged this game one bit; I still found it as adorable as I did back in 2016. It is great that TMS is now available to a wider audience and hopefully will it get the sales it deserves. In my opinion it is not only the best JRPG on the Switch, but stands shoulder to shoulder with the best of all time.
