While unique twists on the Pong formula make battles enjoyable at first, the repetition quickly wears on the experience

Pong Quest overachieves and winds up delivering a top-notch game of Pong while also paying tribute to and expanding upon dungeon-crawling RPG tropes.

Sparsely laid out, mechanically simplistic, and generally a bit of a bore to play, PONG Quest fails to do anything meaningful with this most neglected of gaming properties. The adventuring element is paper-thin, and even the game of bat-and-ball at the heart of its battle system feels flat and lifeless. As always with Pong, local multiplayer is your best bet for fun, but there's little that's fresh about that.

Pong Quest has real heart and soul, it just hasn't been properly thought through, and that's a shame, as the flimsy story is genuinely likeable

Pong Quest is an interesting concept that really shines when played along with your friends: despite the lack of variety and depth, this reinterpretation of a legendary brand can be a really fun game to be played in local multiplayer.

PONG Quest seems a first like a nice mix between the old-school Pong matches and the rogue-lite/dungeon crawler genres. But thanks to generic and random dungeons, too much randomness and a useless length, the old fans of old might not see the end of its five stages, and mandatory grinding. Too bad, because some fights were worth the trip.

Considering their amazing catalog, I'm not sure why Atari keeps trying to make 1972's Pong relevant for modern gamers. Pong Quest is a clever, valiant run at it, aided by solid controls and some decent multiplayer life. But it's still just Pong, and the game is at its best when they help you forget that.

Pong Quest  brings back fond memories of Atari's roots, but this simplistic package doesn't have the depth or complexity to stun modern audiences.

PONG Quest is a surprisingly solid PONG game, but not a solid RPG game. It's a fun experience that I'd have trouble recommending if it wasn't only $15. If you're looking to burn a few hours during the quarantine, you could do a lot worse than PONG Quest.

Pong Quest adds an interesting dungeon crawling twist to the classic title but doesn’t do enough to make itself a must play.

A unique game that mixes dungeon crawling with classic Pong gameplay but quickly becomes dull.

When I wasn't bored with the lack of substance to this game, I was aggravated by every enemy encounter and the core battle mechanics. When the best part of the game is the classic local multiplayer Pong experience from nearly 50 years ago, that should say a lot about the quality of the game. If you really want to play the original Pong on Switch, that should be the only reason you should be picking up this title.

This is very inconvincible experiment with classic PONG game. With boring Quest mode and empty multiplayer.

PONG Quest is a delightful game that masterfully combines retro gameplay with a dungeon crawling RPG formula. It may not have the most stylish visuals or long-lasting gameplay yet it remains a highly enjoyable and charming take on a timeless classic.

As a "vintage gamer" who remembers playing Pong and many variants of it, whether at home or at friends' houses, this was a title that got my attention when it was announced...

Pong Quest may masquerade as something new and fresh, but it very much remains the same decades-old game with only just a dusting of RPG mechanics.

The problem with Pong Quest on a whole is that for a crossover, it doesn’t lean heavily enough into RPGs to be interesting for RPGamers, and by the other side of it, you can only play so much Pong before it gets stale.

PONG Quest mixes the classic PONG formula with RPG gameplay – it sounds like a weird mix, but it actually makes for a pleasantly enjoyable experience. Sure, it can get a little repetitive in places and the visuals are a bit too simple in design, but it still has this undeniable charm that’ll keep you hooked in until the very end of your quest. Who would’ve thought that PONG could make such a quirky yet fun return to player’s screens in 2020?

PONG Quest is a curious and even interesting idea, but as important as having an ingenious idea is knowing how to carry it out. And in this game that is not achieved properly. It's always a pity that potential is wasted, although its single-player mode can offer hundreds of crazy games against the CPU, and its multiplayer mode can give some healthy laughs and good fights between human blades, despite not having much depth in this aspect either.

I never thought a mix between PONG and a dungeon crawler would work, but PONG Quest proved me wrong. It’s a fun and accessible little game with a fun gameplay loop and lots of unlockables, but this is definitely best enjoyed in smaller doses.
