Mafia Definitive Edition is a brilliant remake. I get a feeling of déjà vu saying that because of all the great titles that have been modernised for console this generation, but Hanger 13 have gone over and above here to make this the best title in the Mafia series. This is a must-buy for all fans of open-world action game. Just note that it is a lot less open than you may expect.
The Definitive Edition may not be exactly the same Mafia from 2002, but that's why this game works excelently. Improved gameplay elements, including beautiful City of The Lost Heaven graphics, are just amazing. Arguments such as: excellent acting performances, great voiceover and with a few exceptions, good balanced gameplay, should be enough to get the Definitive Edition into your gamer's crosshair. Lovers of the original Mafia will enjoy the classic with the new visuals. And those who missed the game 18 years ago have a great opportunity to experience the entire original story in a modern design.

Mafia: Definitive Edition, despite some technical hiccups, is still one of the best and most faithful remakes I had the pleasure of playing this generation. The story is engaging and thoroughly entertaining, the voice acting is terrific, the writing and characters are phenomenal, and the visuals are spectacular for modern hardware.
While its gameplay feels archaic, Mafia: Definitive Edition has a story and a city worth experiencing.
Mafia Definitive Edition is an all-round great package. It looks and sounds phenomenal. From expert motion capture and stellar performances by all cast involved, down to outstanding writing, it has the makings of an A-class title. Gameplay may be a bit wonky, but there is so much else that brings the game up to the standards of the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V – but perhaps not as broad in scope. Hangar 13 have done a fantastic job and made Mafia Definitive Edition a must-have for any fan of the period, setting or mobster plot.
Mafia Definitive Edition has raised the stakes. It’s a series that has essentially gone to war on itself by rebuilding, redefining, and reintroducing its stellar narrative to an entirely new generation of gamers. As someone whose family thinks of The Godfather Trilogy as a holy testimony to Italian heritage, Mafia delivers an astounding performance on all fronts from gameplay, presentation, design and delivery.
Mafia: Definitive Edition is easily one of the best remakes ever released and remains the best in the trilogy. A great choice for those who prefer a well constructed and tied narrative, added to a gameplay that, although not perfect, does not take away the renewed shine of this classic.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is one of the most faithful and worked remakes ever seen, at the level of the big productions. Its magnificent plot and cinematics are very powerful and will make us continue playing to know more about it. In contrast, the gunplay and driving are not very good and can complicate things. Hangar 13 has indisputably made Mafia Definitive Edition exactly the remake it had to be in order to entertain and at the same time not to disrespectfully alienate the clearly outdated original. The narrative approach is based on the right set screws, in order to bring the action adventure into the modern age. Thanks to the expanded character profiles, the successful voice recordings and the impressive visuals, the narrative gains additional emotionality and presents you with a rousing story-focused mafia adventure that is unlike any other. At the same time, the new edition has to struggle with the complex, limited game elements. Hakeliges Gunplay, the strongly linear level structures as well as the partly not flawless technical implementation show that Hangar 13 did not yet want to take the leap into modern times. Even though Mafia Definitive Edition never met the multi-layered shooter standard, the game with its consistent simplicity feels coherent enough to entertain during the almost 10-hour campaign. In combination with the difficult setting options, the remake is the perfect snack for the nostalgia-bright players and those who want to become one in the future.

I spent about 20 hours with Mafia and it left me wanting more. So much in fact, that I started to download Mafia 3 while I was writing this. Just when I thought I was out, they keep pulling me back in.
It is not often that we have experiences of this level in games oriented to a single player, as far as the story and technical power are concerned. Mafia presents a story with such exceptional and rarely seen quality that it is well worth play. If you're a fan of criminal thrillers and gangster movies, as well as coverage and driving shooters, Mafia: Definitive Edition is for you.

Mafia: Definitive Edition offers a thrilling action-packed gangster tale that is only really let down by some occasionally clunky controls. The remake itself is top notch, with the story delivering the same gritty tale but adding additional sequences to flesh it out, the mission design more tightly refined to offer more excitement and a balanced difficulty, and the visuals outstanding throughout with Lost Heaven feeling more believable and lived in than ever before. Hangar 13 have done a really great job in re-imagining the game whilst maintaining its roots and it’s sure to please both series veterans and complete newcomers. It’s just a shame that the controls are so fiddly, with both the on-foot segments and the driving feeling pretty cumbersome throughout. It’s not a game-breaker by any means, but it’s certainly noticeable – especially during your early hours playing when you’re getting used to how the game feels. Still, these issues won’t ruin your time with Mafia: Definitive Edition and there’s no denying that it’s up there with Final Fantasy VII Remake and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 as one of the finest remakes that has released over the last few years. If you’re a fan of modern open-world adventures or appreciate a good gangster flick, you won’t want to miss out on Mafia: Definitive Edition.
