Maneater perfectly embodies the fantasy of being a super-powerful shark to great effect, even if there are some small technical issues and rough-around-the-edges gameplay decisions. It never overstays its welcome and is fun to devour a few hours here and there.

It's hard to deny that Maneater has colossal potential – though the lack of mission variety and some simplistic combat does lend it to feeling repetitious as time goes on. Putting these flaws aside, however, Maneater deserves kudos for an undeniably unique premise and laying a solid foundation for a franchise that developer Tripwire should almost certainly pursue.

Maneater comes to the Nintendo Switch in a surprisingly good package. With all the collectathon fun of the original now in portable form, is it worth the visual downgrade? One thing is for certain, though: swimming around as a shark is great fun on the bus.

Maneater is a ridiculous, fun title that should be applauded for its ambition of making a viable action RPG starring a shark.

Maneater certainly gives players a different point-of-view on the action/RPG genre. Taking a shark from its violent beginnings to an inevitable battle for vengeance makes for a unique gaming journey. Unfortunately, its nice visuals and sly sense of humor aren't enough to break up the monotony of undersea survival.

"Maneater" is a true evil genre in the game industry. But it's just like most B movies, bloody scenes and repetitive shots will inevitably make people bored.

Maneater gets a fairly rudimentary upgrade to PS5, and although the flashy lighting and other additions are welcome, some more quality of life and performance changes wouldn't have gone astray. The inability to transfer save files may also be a bit of a pain for those who previously played through, as there isn't too much incentive to dive back in again.

Maneater is an enjoyable action-RPG whose best moments are overshadowed by its bog standard open-world design and lack of variety in missions and enemies.

Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water, Tripwire Interactive drops Maneater. Play as one of the Ocean's deadliest predators in this unique RPG that manages to deliver on its inherently entertaining premise, while also falling prey to repetitive busywork, padding out a short story. Here is our Maneater Review for PS4.

Maneater starts as an enjoyable, silly concept, making it fun for a couple of hours.

Playing Maneater, I personally had a lot of fun going around playing as a huge shark controlling the ocean despite being repetitive. The repetitiveness along with the lack of a worthwhile story did lessen my enjoyment with the game. In the end, though, I did enjoy the game greatly with its stunning visuals and fun game mechanics.

Maneater is just the type of game a shark enthusiast, such as myself, has been waiting for. The sharks get their revenge on humans and other predators as it grows. The combat and swimming systems work very well, and mix well with the blood and gore that gives a realistic feel to the title. I loved most aspects of the game and the story and will enjoy playing it through to completion to reach the ultimate evolution. For $39.99 USD this is a very beautiful game about sharks and while some areas may lack fullness it is worth that price.

A simplistic and repetitive, but appreciably cathartic shark-em-up that would be the perfect weekend blast if it wasn't so frustratingly undercooked

Maneater is a pretty decent take on the open-world action-adventure RPG formula that GTA has popularized. While some of its elements feel quite lacking, many of what it has to offer is pretty well-done and entertaining. It's definitely worth trying for fans of GTA-style games who are looking for something especially different.

There's no game that makes you feel like a shark quite as well as Maneater, but a shoddy open world structure and repetitive missions make it little more than a quick rush of adrenaline.

While its story missions and their variety can be improved upon, especially when it comes to the endgame, Maneater is an absolute blast.

Maneater is a one of a kind RPG that revolves around the growth of a shark in search of his revenge. Besides its technical limitations and repetitiveness, Maneater is a lot of fun.
