Maneater perfectly embodies the fantasy of being a super-powerful shark to great effect, even if there are some small technical issues and rough-around-the-edges gameplay decisions. It never overstays its welcome and is fun to devour a few hours here and there.
Maneater's deep combat and deeper oceans provide just the type of blissful escapism we need right now.
It may only be single player, but treat it more like the Witcher than a party game: you are the shark, this is your time to rise as queen of the ocean. It may have a slightly bumpy start, as most games of this style do, but once it opens up the world is your… well, ocean. That sounds less dramatic when it’s literal.
Despite the performance and realism issues I had with the game, Maneater is an incredibly fun and satisfying slaughter-fest shaRkPG experience. You must eat to grow, grow to fight, fight to survive, and survive to rip your mother’s murderer to pieces! The visuals are incredible, the gore is glorious, the story was funny whilst holding everything together, and the range of armour and abilities helps create a unique experience in this Adult-orientated Feeding Frenzy-a-like. If you’re looking to inflict some mindless carnage and earn a shiny platinum without too much issue, check out Maneater today!
It's not perfect and it is quite repetitive but I wasn't bothered. Maneater is a game we've not seen the likes of before and I hope it inspires more like it. Go and buy Maneater and experience what it's like to be the ultimate Apex Predator.
Maneater feels like a b-movie and it's not ashamed of it. The atmosphere is undoubtedly its best value and, if you wanna appreciate it, you must avoid looking too much at the details. The idea on which the game is based, after all, is that fish are smarter than humans, so Maneater rightly treat us accordingly.

Maneater is extremely fun. An underwater sandbox, starring a killer shark, full of blood and gore, with a great sense of humor. But it has several technical issues and lacks variety.

The whole thing is amplified through its presentation, which takes cues from <b>Shark Week</b> documentaries, <b>Deadliest Catch</b> and <b>Dirty Jobs</b> (as described to us by the devs themselves), only in hyper satirical form, lead by narrator <b>Chris Parnell</b> (<b>Archer</b>, <b>Rick and Morty</b>) in what is meant to be a *sort of* episodic docuseries format.
An occasionally rough but always entertaining open world actioner that puts players in control of one of nature's greatest predators, Maneater is the over the top, human chomping odyssey that many of us never knew that we wanted. Until now.
Maneater surprises in a lot aspects of the game and will please every shark enthusiast out there. Even RPG Fans can go for it, if they can live with a reduced gameplay variety, scope and reduced overall variety, compared to other games in the genre. The humor is great and despite being a short experience, its always fun to play.

Although it's hindered by performance issues, Maneater allows you to gleefully live out your wildest (and perhaps bloodiest) killer shark revenge fantasies. What's more, the game's dark sense of humor means you don't have to feel guilty about the carnage that ensues.
Tripwire Interactive has managed to capture what it feels like to be Jaws, right down to jumping out of the water, landing on a boat, and chomping away at the hunters on it. That in and of itself is a momentous achievement to accomplish.
If you can live with the issues, you'll find Maneater to be a ridiculously good time. The aforementioned issues are a shame, but the distinct nature of being a shark and the ability to deliver mayhem in a different way. It'll remind players of what was so appealing about open-world games in the first place. Thanks to Maneater's relatively short completion time compared to other open-world titles, it's well worth checking out.
Maneater constantly blurs the line between sadistic mass murder simulator and clever satire, while also managing to be as fun as any human-based open-world game. Chris Parnell's narration can get a little repetitive, as can the missions, and the camera could use a little work, but it's all a matter of context. It's a wild reversal of ego, an experience that is both completely freeing and oppressive at the same time. Stare into the dead eyes of the shark, and the shark stares into you.
Like Hooper said, sharks just swim and eat, and that's unfortunately not enough to fill even a short action-RPG like Maneater.
The game's campiness doesn't extend to the shark combat, which flounders as a result of it mostly hinging on button-mashing.
Maneater is a one of a kind RPG that revolves around the growth of a shark in search of his revenge. Besides its technical limitations and repetitiveness, Maneater is a lot of fun.

If you were rooting for the shark in Jaws, Maneater is the game for you.
You may be tired of open world collectathons, but Maneater bites back with more than enough novelty to make the format feel as fresh as Port Clovis' well-populated oceans. A moreish gameplay loop with a well-designed sandbox mean there's some-fin special here, and while it makome as a surprise, not even control and performance issues will deter you from flashing your teeth.
