Death end re;Quest 2 brings a thought-provoking story and makes welcome changes to combat, especially with a working auto mode. However, while there are successes, the game repeats the mistakes of its predecessor, aggravating them even more, especially in the graphics. Between the PC/PS4 version and the Switch version, unfortunately I can't recommend playing on the hybrid console.

Death end re;Quest 2 is both brave and surprising. It’s got a strong sense of direction and it exudes Compile Heart’s confidence in its idea and narrative, which complements a powerful combat engine that encourages creative experimentation. It’s definitely one for the more patient players, but any JRPG fan — or anyone with an open mind — would do well to pick it up.

The game itself could be triggering to some, but also, to others, a rather enjoyable experience that is both thought-provoking and artistically creative in every aspect possible. From the spot-on voice acting to character development, Death end re;Quest 2 shines and it easily becomes one of the best stories within the dark JRPG genre, setting on the same line of titles as Persona or Shin Megami Tensei titles.

Even with Death end re;Quest 2's short run time and balancing issues, it is still a unique horror RPG that should be looked at if you’re a fan of other Compile Hearts RPGs. If you haven’t played Compile Heart’s other games, this is a solid entry point.

Death end re;Quest 2 carries over most of the first installment’s major aspects — both good and bad — while also distancing itself enough from its predecessor to make it feel almost standalone. However, the removal of a number of unique ideas previously implemented means the shortcomings are much more apparent this time around, and the formula established by the first game is starting to wear woefully thin.

I highly recommend taking a look into Death End Re;Quest if you are a fan of JRPGs or Corpse Party, as I doubt you will be disappointed. Just be aware that the psychological thriller aspect can have some really not PG friendly scenes, so please heed the disclaimers.

Death end re;Quest 2 is an amazing experience that is not afraid to go against typical JRPG storytelling and themes. It’s a breath of fresh air to experience a story like Death end re;Quest 2. Even if you take out the gameplay elements, this game can definitely pass as only a visual novel. I had a blast experiencing the twisted world of Death end re;Quest 2 and if you are into these dark, morbid, and twisted stories looking to experience something new in a JRPG, then I heavily recommend Death end re;Quest 2

Death end re;Quest 2 nails a lot of things: narrative, aesthetics, soundtrack, and character growth are all fantastic. It falters in narrative delivery, visual design, and difficulty spikes. It’s a commendable gothic JRPG from Idea Factory that does interesting things even if not all of them work.

I have to say Death end re;Quest 2 is one of my favorite releases of the year. It takes everything the first game had to offer and refines it into a more streamlined package. It took me around 20 hours to get the True Ending. There are two other endings here as well, but the requirements here are much more obvious than the way the first game handled the endings. I think folks should definitely play the first game before jumping into this one. I loved all the characters here, the combat is still a ton of fun and soundtrack is one of the best out there. The PC version does have a few bugs that need taken care of, but if you have even a passing interest in this series I think you should take the plunge. If you’re a fan of horror with a little bit a fanservice thrown in, you’ll be glad you did!

The battle system being the best thing about Death End Re;Quest 2 is good, because it’s the main thing you’ll be doing. On the other hand, with the way this game starts, I was genuinely invested in the story until Mai just became another sulky, edgy, boring anime protagonist. All in all, Death End Re;Quest 2 was a fun game with an interesting and unique set of battle mechanics, but the story, and consequently my enjoyment, fell flat solely due to the poor writing. The lack of difficulty also bored after a while.

I know that I’m probably shouting into the void, here, but I’m going to say this anyway; please learn from your mistakes in this game, Compile Heart. Death end re;Quest 2 shows that you’re truly capable of making a great horror game, but also that you aren’t there just yet. There were plenty of problems, but there were plenty of things to love about this title, too. I’ve seen the EX Ending (yes, I liked this game that much), and I know that you guys are teasing the possibility of a Death end re;Quest 3. I want that to happen, I want to love it, and I want to give it a stellar review. All I ask is that you took note of what worked and what didn’t, and continue to grow this series to be as great as it can potentially be. I know you can do it!

It's a game with an interesting and more murky story than its predecessor, which despite declining a bit in gameplay, has some endearing characters and many more misteries to add to the world of the Idea Factory saga.

Death end re;Quest 2 is an exceptionally well-made RPG that encompasses great systems and characters. It does its best not to rely too heavily on the first entry and instead creates new relationships for new and returning players. There’s a bit of slow start as it sets up the plot, but once the game gets going, it’s full steam ahead for a dark and twisted set of events leading to the conclusion.
