Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a faithful remake of its previous iterations. However, there's simply too much missing when it comes to story and gameplay which holds it back from being a must-have game in the series.

If you’re looking for something to sink hours into and enjoy a slow, steady stroll rather than an action-packed sprint, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town might just be for you.

It's been more than 15 years, but welcome back to Mineral Town. Things are mostly the way that you remember them, but say hello to a couple new faces, a couple new animals, and more. What you won't be saying hello to, at least not easily, are the mountain of things still locked behind arbitrary walls.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a fascinating release, due to the fact that the way that Marvelous has produced this remake does not follow what recent developers have been doing bringing old games into the modern video game market.

Heartwarming interactions, easy to grasp farming mechanics, and upbeat graphics and soundtrack provide any fans of the farm sim genre an enjoyable experience. For old fans of the series, this is a fine remake with nice improved updates to bring back some great memories, and for new players this offers a well-executed farming sim experience with a great gameplay loop.

If you were a huge fan of the original, or if you’ve never before played a farming sim, this will be right up your alley. If, however, you know your Portia from your Stardew, you won’t find anything new here.

Its laid-back gameplay and overall simplicity is extremely peaceful and addicting, but I would advise that new players manage their expectations.

‎We return to Mineral Town with a great facelift that bets on the simplicity of mechanics and simplicity in its menus and staging. We will find a very classic adventure in the style of Harvest Moon, where we get lost for days harvesting and improving our farm, but it is somewhat decaffeinated and empty in these times, being a very brief option in terms of ambition.‎

Despite its age, simplicity, and lack of embellishments, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town proves the Bokujō Monogatari franchise has been on the money since the very beginning. Its content may feel a little sparse compared to its successors and competitors, but I can see myself returning to these lands long after the next harvest moon.

STORY OF SEASONS: Friends of Mineral Town comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a delivery that adds nothing to the Switch and PC versions. It is an entertaining and pleasant game to which we return regularly to relax a bit, but at the level of mechanics and depth it remains on the surface compared to other games of the same genre.

Friends of Mineral Town is perfect for the switch. Controls are fluid and easy going, and tasks are simple so don’t need a huge screen to focus on. It is a perfect time consumer for both on the go or a rainy afternoon. I’ve already spent hours perfecting my farm, and I know for a fact I will continue to do so.

Despite some problems, it is not difficult to have fun and spend several hours exploring the world of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. If you like this kind of game, but you've played Stardew Valley a thousand times, can't take Animal Crossing: New Horizons anymore, or just played the original or miss a good old Harvest Moon, go ahead without fear. There is a lot to do, more than I expected at the beginning, actually.

Gamers that have already poured hundreds of hours into Animal Crossing: New Horizons would do well to check out Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. The game offers a similarly laid-back experience with a number of options that allow players to tailor it the way that they see fit. It certainly won't be for everyone, but the farm RPG offers a wonderful take on one of the most beloved Harvest Moon entries.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town brings us back a nice classic of life/management farm game with a simple but effective control scheme and a kind plot, capable of keeping us glued to the controls of Switch.

Overall I did really enjoy my time with STORY OF SEASONS: Friends of Mineral Town. It’s still just as good as I remember it being. If I had to pick any concern, it’s just that it’s a lot of the same. Don’t get me wrong, I still really recommend this game, even if it is $49.99. I was just hoping for something more substantial in terms of changes. I’ll still be playing and revisiting this game just like every other game in the series, and I’m glad it’s on newer hardware so I can introduce more people to it. If you’re curious, you can find the game both on Steam and the Nintendo Switch on July 14th.

Remaking Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town for another portable system ended up being a really smart idea. Everything that made the game work so well on-the-go all those years ago is still here, but with better graphics, music, performance, and some additional content.
