Personally, I enjoyed my time with Fairy Tail, but I would suggest players start on Normal and increase the difficulty when they feel comfortable, as a game like this really benefits from strategic decision-making in order to keep it interesting.

Fairy Tail is a great first entry for the series onto home consoles with plenty to love for fans of the series and genre.

As enjoyable as this game was for an outsider like me, there’s no denying Fairy Tail‘s true nature as a game aimed at its pre-installed fanbase. It’s the kind of game that you excitedly dive into because you’ve been a fan of the series for so long and want to experience its story like never before. Playing it with the mindset that it’s “just another JRPG” might leave you wanting more at the end of it all, but I know for a fact that, had I already been familiar with Fairy Tail, I would have eaten everything up faster than Natsu himself.

While the breakneck opening might make it somewhat difficult for newcomers to the series to find their footing, it is clear that Gust was quite focused on delivering a love letter to existing fans of Fairy Tail. To that end, the developers succeeded. Fairy Tail is not a terribly challenging JRPG, but it never felt overly grindy or tiresome either, and with any luck we’ll see more of the series in game form in the future.

Porting FAIRY TAIL to JRPG format is not a bad idea. Both the guild system and the characters themselves lend themselves to it, which, spiced up with a good battle system -like the one the game offers- could have ended up offering the fan a great game. Unfortunately, whether it's due to budget problems or anything else, the game feels half-hearted, with tons of unmodeled characters and extremely repetitive enemies and missions. A failed opportunity that, even so, entertains the 15 hours it lasts.

Fairy Tail is a very fun and enjoyable game even if it’s not the deepest experience. The game is a decent adaptation of the source material that even adapts the theme of friendship and bonds that is readily present in the source material into the various side-story content to strengthen your characters. It’s a game that fans can enjoy. However, if you are a newcomer I recommend you either read the manga or watch the anime first before diving into the game to get yourself up to speed.

All in all, Fairy Tail is a fun experience, and while it is mainly designed for fans of the franchise, the game isn’t entirely unapproachable for new players.

Overall, Fairy Tail isn’t a perfect JRPG but it comes pretty close! Every part of Fairy Tail is beautifully designed and well thought out. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the combat system at first, I did see the appeal and fun challenge the turn-base combat system brings to this game. I especially loved how the developers incorporated in key elements from the franchise such as teamwork and comradery into the game. Long-time fans especially will enjoy the experience to relive stories previously told in the manga and anime. In addition to being able to able to enjoy never before seen story and quest elements. And while I think this game will be well received by long-time fans, it is also very approachable and welcoming to newcomers too.

I think if you’re into either the anime/manga series or turn-based JRPGs you’re going to have a good time with Fairy Tail.

Fairy Tail: The Game is a fun time for established fans who are familiar with the lore of its original source material, but its gaming adaptations would certainly benefit with a prequel initiating some form of introduction to newcomers.

Somehow, Fairy Tail ended up being one of the most enjoyable JRPG’s I’ve played in a while. The characters, the stories, the variety and freedom in play, it all comes together for a very enjoyable experience.

Fairy Tail is one of Jolien's favorite animes. Now a game from this series has been released and she can discover the world of Fiore in video game form.

Fairy Tail is a well done adaption of the manga but mainly for lovers of the same. As a new player in the universe, the story of the game seems confusing and isn't coherent. And while the characters are depicted well, it's hard to get attached to them in any way. Also, gameplay is rather flat and slow - except for the battles which are a real delight! Fairy Tail is the first JRPG in which I actually enjoyed fighting more than the story. So overall, I recommend it but mainly for fans of the franchise.

This is a solid game no matter what. And I’m willing to bet that if you are a fan of Fairy Tail, you’re getting rewarded with a fun and solid RPG that keeps the spirit of the original and adds on more besides.

Borned from one of the most famous manga of the last decade, Fairy Tail, the videogame, introduces us to live three of the most important arcs of the franchise, while we try to restore the fallen honor guild, Fairy Tail. Analyzed on Switch, it is a great turn-based RPG, but it falls on graphics and the story.

As someone who hasn’t seen a single episode of Fairy Tail, I bloody loved this game! It felt like a re-skinned Atelier game, minus the synthesising, with enhanced combat and a whole host of addictive mechanics, such as the rebuilding of the guild. I wasn’t impressed with how they used the source material (the anime), but the expanded interactions, character stories, and unique game-only events made up for the lack of animated anime segments and chunks of the game reduced to the storybook-like narration. Fans of the franchise will enjoy playing as their favourite characters and reenacting various arcs from the series, and newcomers will enjoy the interesting stories and solid gameplay mechanics.

Fairy Tail is one of those games with characters you miss after completion. It’s one of those titles that you connect with because each character is humanized. They’re relatable, and despite their harnessing of magical powers, you can still invest. That’s excellent writing. The grinding aspect of JRPG’s has been streamlined, and you can easily get upwards of 60 hours out of this.

Despite some very obvious shortcomings in quest design, difficulty, and technical aspects, Fairy Tail is a very solid turn-based JRPG that not only would satisfy the long time fans of the series but could be very enjoyable for fans of the JRPG genre as a whole. The deep combat system, fun interactions between the characters, interesting side contents, fitting art style, and an impressive adaptation of two big story arcs, make Fairy Tail a must-have for anyone interested in the series or the genre.
