It grows repetitive, but the dodging, blocking, parrying, slashing combat — while a bit overly complicated at times — should prove challenging and gratifying enough to keep fans of this sort of game moving forward. The slightly gaudy next-gen visual spectacle is just gravy.

Godfall's hack-and-slash combat is fun enough, but the dull story and pointless loot keep it from reaching its full potential.

Godfall is a looter slasher game that successfully delivers a robust combat system alongside gorgeous next-gen graphics. Unfortunately, it fails in utilizing all the potential of story settings. It also gets boring and repetitive near the end. It doesn’t add anything special to the action genre. It is not a bad game; neither is it a great game. Godfall is just an OK game with really astonishingly good graphics.

The game should've initially released as an early access game to be able to grow through the feedback of gamers who love this genre. However, the game was below expectations with minor fun elements but felt empty. As a new generation launch game we will hardly remember it in the future, unless it got the support it needs and tweaked to be a better game.

Godfall’s excellent combat system and gorgeous graphics will earn it many fans, though its cookie cutter storyline and chronic lack of enemy variety drag down the experience a bit.

One of the most boring triple-A games this year so far.

If everything Godfall had to offer was as good as its satisfying combat system, we would be looking at a darn good PS5 launch game. However, in reality, that's the only thing it has to boast about. An inconsequential loot system, recycled environments, and a frustrating mission structure thwart any sort of enjoyment the game might offer. It's not god-awful, but Godfall is going to be very quickly forgotten about.

Godfall is all style and no substance. The next-gen lick of paint certainly makes it an exquisite looking stunner, however, at its core is some lacklustre gameplay and some genuinely lethargic missions. The boss battles are exciting and momentarily engaging, and the art style incredible, but I'm left feeling more than a little underwhelmed and unfulfilled.

Godfall offers great combat and a variety of weapons, but without proper expansion. The creators have not exploited the potential of the created world and may no longer be given the opportunity to show its true character.

While Godfall’s technical components of gameplay and graphics were solid, the game overall is just fine. As mentioned, the narrative as told throughout is relatively shallow, and despite a fun combat system, it does get repetitive. Finally, the recurrence of a number of bugs hampered my personal experience, and these do not appear to be an isolated case. While I quite enjoyed Godfall at the outset, it began to wane on me over time, and what might have been a decent launch title may not seem like it years from now.

Regardless of how satisfying the combat may be, it's only somewhat of a redeeming component to prevent the game from being a total letdown. Godfall has looting and it has slashing, to be sure, but you end up wading through so much to enjoy those parts. Perhaps loot fiends will get hooked on the endgame loop enough to stick around for a while, but what waits at the end is hardly worth the time it takes to get there.

Godfall is a fun video game that relies on a very rich universe with an interesting lore. However is inferior to other similar proposals that now offer something similar in free to play format.

Godfall had a lot going for it. It was unveiled as the very first PS5 release, adopted the moniker of a looter slasher, and looked to be the equivalent of Warframe when it first launched on PS4. Unfortunately, it fails to stand out as a must-play killer app for the newly released PS5. Boredom quickly sets in as you run around gorgeous yet incredibly lifeless locales, embark on tiresome quests, and get treated to a storyline that’s entirely forgettable. Godfall’s quality combat mechanics, healthy offering of cool looking loot, and slick looking Valorplate armors are sadly stuck within a lackluster shell of a game.

I cannot recommend this game at full price. Again, as part of a free subscription it might be worth checking out and getting a few hours of slashy combat in. But I wouldn’t touch it unless the $70 asking price comes down by at least half, and even then, there are a half dozen other better games out this fall alone. I wanted to like Godfall. I never want to see games in this genre fail. But fail it does, and in a worse way than anything I have seen in a long while.

If you can reduce the narrative to background noise and brute force your way through some of the shortcomings, there are worse ways to spend your time than with this middling adventure, although given the PS5 version's whopping £70 price point (just for the standard edition), you may want to wait for a sale. Godfall is out now for PlayStation 5 for £69.99 and on PC (via the Epic Game Store ) for £49.99

A disappointment in almost all areas besides combat and graphics, Godfall feels more like a next-generation showcase than anything else. A boatload of stats and unsubstantial loot are just some of Godfall's major problems.

Godfall is a typical game that make you scream when you watching its trailers, but make you sleepy when you actually playing. Its gorgeous art design and outstanding graphics are indeed commendable. But in other parts, it's very boring.
