Worms Rumble is a fun time for anyone familiar with fast paced action shooters. It’s a shallow experience but it’s aiming to be fun, not to tell a story and it does a pretty good job with it. Although not a first person shooter or a true battle royale game, there are plenty of notes here for fans of those genres to enjoy, and it might scratch a part of your brain that’s been missing the flow state of a simple arena shooter. Worth a try if nothing else.

Worms Rumble can be an enjoyable ride, and it is certainly a bold, fresh take on the franchise. However,  it is ultimately a step in the wrong direction. Worms Rumble fails to capture the essence of previous games, and adopting this style of gameplay causes it to grow stale quickly.

It just isn’t as fun as any of its turn-based counterparts. In a sea of multiplayer shooters with way more content out there, some of them not requiring an upfront payment in order to access them, this game just doesn’t have what it takes in order to stand out.

Worms Rumble is credited with bringing a new perspective to this beloved franchise. However, the gains from the inclusion of multiplayer modes with real-time action neutralize the charms of Worms: we don't have the humor, brutal destruction and tension of turn-based combat titles. Despite this, it is a game made with quality and attention to detail. Fans of classic style will certainly have a harder time digesting the changes, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try. After all, the constant updates and the inclusion of new modes show that Team17 is involved with the evolution and improvement of the title, which can become more and more polished and interesting.

‎Giving a drastic twist to the franchise, Worms Rumble offers us a concept that may not please the most staunch players who have been there since the beginning of it, but that gives ‎‎a breath of fresh air to the playable section‎‎ and that maintains many of the characteristics that made these worms famous. By singing goodbye to turn-based strategy, Team17's work adapts to the new times through an experience that offers action-based encounters and can only fall short due to the few game modes it treasures. Although, that's something that only time will tell.‎

Worms Rumble is a reasonably fun game in its own right; the battles feel fast, the weapons pack a decent punch, and the addition of zip wires make traversal a blast. The problem is that in transitioning to a multiplayer-focused battle royale style game, much of what made Worms so iconic in the past is now gone, with far fewer weapons and absolutely no destructible environments. Add to this a rather limited selection of levels, and you've got an experience that may well be fun for a short while, but certainly won't keep you engaged for the long haul.

Technical limitations aside, Worms Rumble on Nintendo Switch is a solid addition to the eShop, which is surprisingly sparse in its collection of Worms titles – Worms W.M.D. being the only other title available digitally right now. The better Worms Rumble experience can be found on other platforms, but the Switch version is good enough for wherever you have just a few minutes to play or while traveling.

Having been a follower and fan of the Worms series since it's humble beginnings I've come to expect every title to have the franchise's well-known humor and strategy...

Credit where credit is due to Team17 for trying something different. While not necessarily a roaring success nor an abject failure, Worms Rumble guarantees enjoyment in the short-term, but its long-term prospects don't seem as promising. After a few hours, Worms Rumble does prove a bit wearisome and may not worm its way into your affections.

I wouldn’t dive into Worms Rumble looking for the original nuts and bolts if you’re an older player. I can easily picture that scenario since there are already a plethora of Worms titles and remasters on Steam. But if you seek a 2D Run N’ Gun multiplayer experience, you’ll have some fun. This game will stay relevant as long as there are enough players online to carry the torch. Without them, I can easily see it fall into obscurity.

The Worms series has been around since 1995, so I’d be surprised if any gaming fan hadn’t heard of those angry anthropomorphic fellows! To sum it up, the series largely revolves around turn-based artillery tactics. Often having to be the last one standing, you use whacky weapons to deplete your opponents’ health. Sheep, Holy Hand Grenades, and more, Worms boasts slapstick humour. It has gone through character design changes, 2D to 3D, and even a mini-golf spin-off!

Worms Rumble is a hectic, and chaotic real-time run-and-gun style game featuring the characters you love from the franchise. If you are looking for a game that feels like it's strategic ancestors with a lot of humour, this is not the game for you.

There's not much to say about Worms: Rumble. It is a kind of beautiful canapé that will outrage avid fans and will definitely please others. You will laugh with your friends and here and there you will swear at places with breakneck control. But that's enough for a beautiful 7 points out of 10.

Legendary Worms are back - this time with realtime combat! It is acceptable new challenge, but there are not enough maps and game modes.

Worms Rumble is a fun twist on the tried-and-true Worms format. While it can be purchased standalone for $14.99, considering the online nature of its matches, most players will be better off subscribing to PlayStation Plus and adding it to their library via the free download being offered this month. Regardless, Worms Rumble is worth playing for a few rounds, and then a couple more, and so on until suddenly it's 2 AM and you really should be asleep as you have work in a few hours but just one more game couldn't hurt since you're so close to unlocking that next skin anyway… While destructible terrain may no longer be a feature, the interactivity of the sprawling maps makes up for it. Worms Rumble is easy to play but difficult to master, and worth your time whether you're a fan of the series or enjoy fast-paced competitive games that test your reflexes and quick thinking.

It's not Worms. With that out of the way, let's talk about what it actually is: an easy-to-get-into Battle Royale with fast matches, fun and quite casual as there isn't that much to do in the way of unlocking stuff: you'll just play, and play, play. This could be an issue in the long run: for how long will Worms Rumble be able to keep its players entertained? But do we really need to have an answer right now, or should we still be able to play just for fun, without worrying about seasons, events, tournaments we'll never take part and prizes we'll never win?

Worms Rumble comes just in time to celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary with a fun and chaotic albeit very bare-bones entry.

Worms Rumble is fairly limited out of the gate given the small number of maps that tend to repeat with irritating frequency. However, the gameplay itself is an entertaining twist on a classic formula and still features the signature Worms touches. It remains to be seen whether the promise of new maps, seasonal modes, and outfits is enough to keep players engaged for long stretches of time.

Worms Rumble excels similarly on PS4 as it does on PS5. The differences in performance are noticeable but not significant. Matchmaking works just as quick on both console versions of the game, so you'll always find it easy to scratch that itch for one more round no matter where you play. The PS4 version is another good addition to the already stellar library of the console, and although there isn't much content at launch, Worms Rumble is a worthwhile investment with future promise.
