It Takes Two wears a lot of hats, and each of them well. It’s a romantic comedy, a challenging shooter, a head-scratching puzzler and more. While it has a somewhat predictable narrative (less so than A Way Out, for the most part), it’s still charming and full of Pixar-like whimsy. Find a loved one and get into this one; you’ll certainly be glad you did.

There’s so much on offer in It Takes Two and it does it all so well. If you’re looking for a new game to play with your friend or partner then It Takes Two should be at the top of your list. It’s a delight.

I am thoroughly impressed with It Takes Two. I went from begrudgingly taking this review because I was now seemingly the Josef Fares reviewer on the site to actually being excited to see what he and Hazelight do next. The hardest part of recommending this game is that it is mandatory co-op, meaning that some people are going to have a difficult time finding the time to play a 12 hour game alongside a partner who can devote that much time as well. If that isn’t the case though and there is someone to play with, definitely give It Takes Two a shot. There’s nothing else like it.

It Takes Two is one of the most unique games I've played in a long time. The heartfelt story can be really dark at times, but does it's job to reinforce the narrative. There aren't many co-op games on the market, and none of them do what It Takes Two does, with each bit of the platforming gameplay being tons of fun and adding enjoyable new techniques as you make your way through each level. It may be tough to lock someone down for fifteen hours to play it, and even then I feel like I'm reaching for this as a con, but if you find someone that wants to play It Takes Two with, you probably won't want to put down the controller.

While it has some story pains, make no mistake: It Takes Two is a fantastic game and a welcome 2021 surprise. Grab a friend or loved one; find a co-worker or bridge buddy. Regardless of who you pair up with, this is one adventure you'll want to share together.

‎It Takes Two is the result of all the knowledge acquired by Josef Fares so far. A hilarious cooperative adventure that forces us to think and play in company.‎

We have a game that deserves all the praise with its gameplay dynamics, storytelling and most importantly, its dynamic structure from the beginning to the end.

From start to finish, It Takes Two is a great co-op experience. The gameplay is fun and varied throughout the entire run, and it frequently manages to surprise you. It's simply a fun trip to share with a friend, and it's a game that looks like it was as fun to conceptualize as it is to play. That said, the game frequently gets in the way of itself with mediocre and ineffective writing that I found to be fairly forgettable. It's a great game that stops just short of being a masterpiece of co-op gaming. I simply cannot wait to see what Josef Fares comes up with next.

There's a reason (err, several) why It Takes Two earned its Game of the Year accolades in 2021, and Switch owners now have the opportunity to play one of the best co-op games of late. The story remains meaningful, the puzzles innovative. The title continues to succeed in navigating interpersonal strife long after its release and the title's ending being freely available to find online. Even though I knew of some of the events that occurred before reviewing, I was often surprised by its powerful storytelling. It runs incredibly well on the Switch, to boot. Some of the typical Switch-based quirks may be coming with, but it still delivers on a compelling and emotional experience without the compromises that usually accompany a Switch port. With Friend Pass baked into the game, Switch owners are able to play with those in the same room as well as afar. I would personally recommend using a voice comms platform should you play remotely, though.

This superb cooperative platformer adventure comes to Nintendo Switch with a great port that has almost nothing to envy to the rest of versions. It even adds new features, such as a careful dubbing into Spanish with very recognizable voices. If you have Switch and you like cooperative games, you should not miss it for anything in the world.

It Takes Two is simply one of the best co-op games, the genius way it implements inspiration from other famous titles is done in a very beautiful way and perhaps comical too, but the best aspect of the whole experience was the surprising variety in level design and gameplay features with a very fun, clever, and entertaining co-op puzzles. It takes two falls away from the perfect score by just a little due to some hinders on the side.

Whenever a video game utilizes classic narrative and gameplay tropes, it may be difficult to not see it as derivative rather than as a homage. The previous title from developer Hazelight and director Josef Fares, A Way Out, had this pitfall. However, the studio’s follow-up cooperative-only title, It Takes Two, demonstrates that variety and humor are key ingredients for turning familiar elements into a unique blend.

It Takes Two manages to bring the most important elements of co-op gaming and wrap them in an experience that brings players together into fully exploring the dynamics of their relationship towards solving puzzles and overtaking obstacles along the way. Featuring vast worlds with plenty of variety and creative challenges, It Takes Two also does wonders for less experienced players thanks to a very accessible gameplay that welcomes everyone. A true classic and benchmark for cooperative gaming.

It Takes Two is an entirely different game from A Way Out. Not because of its genre, but because of the story and the way it approaches gameplay. It Takes Two is designed to be enjoyed by gamers and those who have never tried gaming ever before.

Hazelight Studios, led by director Josef Fares, brought us one of the best co-op games ever. With an excellent game of nearly 15 hours with a friend, diverse gameplay, and fantastic fantasy worlds, makes It Takes Two definitely worth a try.

It Takes Two is an exemplary answer to how to create a two-player game. More than just a "proven funny thing," intense research shows how two gamers can have fun. The only drawback is the lack of difficulty control. It's perfect for gamers, but it's a bit difficult to play with non-gamers. So it's not a game that everyone can play together.
