It Takes Two is a remarkable puzzle-platformer that constantly surprises and delights, as long as you've got a co-op partner.

It Takes Two is a fantastic co-op game, and feels right at home on Switch. Sadly the visuals take a big hit, but in return you get a few more options on how to play. It still remains difficult to get a co-op partner for the full game let alone enough controllers, however if you can manage you're in for a great time.

It Takes Two is one of the most unique games I've played in a long time. The heartfelt story can be really dark at times, but does it's job to reinforce the narrative. There aren't many co-op games on the market, and none of them do what It Takes Two does, with each bit of the platforming gameplay being tons of fun and adding enjoyable new techniques as you make your way through each level. It may be tough to lock someone down for fifteen hours to play it, and even then I feel like I'm reaching for this as a con, but if you find someone that wants to play It Takes Two with, you probably won't want to put down the controller.

It Takes Two is, without a doubt, the best co-op game you can play right now. It’s much more ambitious and bigger budget than A Way Out, which was still brilliant in its own way. Josef Fares and the team at Hazelight take things to the next level here, and I can only imagine what they’ll do when they’re inevitably given a triple-A budget. Grab a friend by the hand and pull them through an adventure unlike any other as soon as you can - you won’t regret it.

While the game's creativity shines in its beat-by-beat gameplay and level design, It Takes Two's selling point - its narrative - feels half-baked.

I am thoroughly impressed with It Takes Two. I went from begrudgingly taking this review because I was now seemingly the Josef Fares reviewer on the site to actually being excited to see what he and Hazelight do next. The hardest part of recommending this game is that it is mandatory co-op, meaning that some people are going to have a difficult time finding the time to play a 12 hour game alongside a partner who can devote that much time as well. If that isn’t the case though and there is someone to play with, definitely give It Takes Two a shot. There’s nothing else like it.

As a video game reviewer, it's very rare I've ever awarded a perfect score. The last two games I awarded with that score were The Witcher 3 and God of War. I say this just to emphasize how It Takes Two really is, in my view, the perfect co-op experience. At least, it's the closest to perfection that I've had the joy to experience to date.

It Takes Two is a dazzling adventure filled with more mechanics than you can shake a stick at. Working together throughout the mesmerizing set of levels is compelling and full of hearty chuckles, but sadly the story falls short of that bar with inconsistent tone and a lack of perceptible character growth along the way. It’s still well worth your time and energy, just don’t expect to be as emotionally invested in the journey as you might have been with Hazelight’s past work.

Josef Fares succeeds brilliantly in his bet. With It Takes Two, he offers us an effective and enchanting cooperative game in which we clearly don't have time to get bored. Even if its scenario does not break 3 legs to a duck and it ends a little dry, it allows to propose multiple inspired universes that we take pleasure in crossing.

Whichever format you choose, a fantastic fun adventure filled with gaming fun awaits. Rarely have we been so surprised by all the imaginative gameplay that constantly replace each other. Not everything hits the spot, but it's still impossible not to be impressed with the big picture.

It Takes Two is an excellent co-op adventure. While it stumbles on certain narrative aspects and not all the performances are winners, it more than makes up for that with its brilliantly fun and ever-changing gameplay. Forcing two players to work in tandem in countless ways, the game embraces co-op play wholeheartedly, and the variety of gameplay and environments makes it a joy to play from start to finish.

It Takes Two is most probably the biggest surpise of this spring. While the world is still in a pandemic lockdown, and games are getting delayed left and right, Josef Fares gives us an insane adventure that is full of both drama and cool gameplay ideas.

It Takes Two is one of the most varied, inventive games ever made, serving up dozens upon dozens of different styles of gameplay in a remarkably polished, approachable package. An inconsistent level of challenge and lack of editing may strain your relationship with the game at times, but It Takes Two is good enough to justify working through the rough patches.

To those who've been unable to play the BAFTA award-winning game on other platforms, or want to play locally without a split screen, It Takes Two on Switch is well worth its $39.99 price-tag. Additionally, the game's Switch port offers new voice-overs in Japanese, French, German, and Spanish, making this version an appealing option to native speakers of those languages. Others might be better sticking to PS4, Xbox, and PC, due to the game's superior graphics on those platforms. However, Turn Me Up Games has done a wonderful job of working within the Switch's limitations, allowing a new audience to enjoy It Takes Two's bombastic, harrowing, heartfelt journey.
