Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is far from being one of the most inventive games of the genre and brings several problems, such as the absence of game modes and content, laughable exploration and a gameplay model that doesn't appeal to everyone. Still, it's fluid, beautiful, responsive and a true aesthetic and narrative delight for fans of the franchise.

If you've played other fighting games from CyberConnect2, you shouldn't be surprised by anything that will appear in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles. The game perfectly fulfills its assumptions and can provide several hours of carefree combat in a universe breaking records of popularity.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles offers a great experience for anime fans in terms of narrating events and their fighting system, distinctive drawings and great music but with a limited number of characters and options that were not successful in the development of the story.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles covers the contents of the anime to the end of the Mugen Train arc, but this representation doesn't even work well for fans of the series.

A glossy if ultimately another shallow rendition of an anime; one that adds nothing to its source material nor the genre it's tackling. Kill la Kill -IF- remains the unbeaten standard

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is a great anime-based fighting game that’s only going to get better. Its story mode is a lot of fun to play through, thanks to the quality of the source material and CyberConnects2’s refined battle system that’s easy to pick up yet rewarding to master. Factor in the beautiful visuals and a decent amount of side content to engage in, and you have one of the best videogame adaptations of an anime we’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. If you’re a fan of the franchise, consider this a must-have. And even if you’re not, you might want to give it a go.

As a fan of Demon Slayer series you'll probably have an easier time communicating with the game, but for anybody else there isn't much entertainment on offer here as long cut scenes and shallow gameplay really hurt the overall experience.

If you aren't but a fan of anime-related fighters, you'll definitely enjoy this for the combat alone, and the Story Mode is deep enough for you to understand the characters, their relationships, and the journey they have been on. This is the first Demon Slayer video game, and developers CyberConnect2 have knocked it out of the park. I am very excited about the DLC and any possible further instalments.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is a flashy and fun anime arena fighter. The story mode is done so well that both veterans of the series and newcomers can jump right in and enjoy it equally. The visuals and voice acting are also top notch and extremely faithful to the source material. I’ll also be jumping back into it later this year when various characters from the Entertainment District Arc get added to it such as the flashy Uzui. If you don’t typically enjoy these arena fighters than this one won’t do anything to change your mind but for those who do or are just pure Demon Slayer fans you are in for a treat.

Series fans will find something to enjoy, yet those simply looking a fighting experience with friends will find this to be frustrating.

In review, there’s a lot to like about Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles even if it isn’t exactly perfect. It’s a strong first step. The Adventure Mode’s execution and ideas are sound, even if it can feel a bit simple in practice. The Versus mode works well, with characters who feel distinct and have personalities come through.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu No Yaiba): The Hinokami Chronicles maybe is not the best in its genre, but it is an step forward for the fighting videogames that adapt an anime. There are good intentions in trying to avoid a linear game with a succession of boss fights in the story mode. The main problem of the game is that the playable segments connecting the fights seems to be a little repetitive and sometimes quite empty. On the contrary, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish the in-game engine graphics from the anime in which it is based.

As anime games go, Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba The Hinokami Chronicles is a relatively good one. It’s not remarkable, nor does it do anything new, but it’s first and foremost catering to fans of the anime and manga anyways. It seems like developer CyberConnect 2 has put a bit of effort into this one, compared to other barebones and horrible anime games like My Hero One’s Justice 2.

Demon Slayer is one of the most popular manga and animes today and with such a massive audience a video game was going to follow. Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is a retelling of the first season with little variation. The fun combat system is easy to learn but complicated to master with arena-style battles with iconic characters from the first season but outside of that, the game offers the most bare-bones retelling of the anime along with minor exploration and little replayability. Even the fun combat begins to wane due to a poor progression system. Unless you're the most hardcore Demon Slayer fan this title is a prime example of why anime games are not taken seriously.

Unfortunately, Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles does not manage to meet the high expectations. The title suffers from the usual weaknesses of various other implementations, which cannot be ironed out despite the great fighting system. Accordingly, the game lacks game content in every nook and cranny, which makes the solid framework look terrifyingly weak.

The Hinokami Chronicles feels different. The battles alone make this game stand on its own two feet. And even though Story Mode leaves some things to be desired — namely, nail-biting intensity — it’s a retelling of the story which does Demon Slayer justice.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is a very satisfying 3D fighting video game but it is kind of muddled by a sub-par exploration part and a lack of content compared to other fighting games. Fortunately, the story and visuals are pretty great and the online fights can be some of the most exhilarating gaming experiences you get to have this year.
