The 1st chapter of Sherlock Holmes seems broken and lost, and fails to fully satisfy even the hardcore fans of the character.

A work that combines its fascinating story with fun mechanisms and turns the gamer into Sherlock Holmes for hours.

It's one of the best games in the Sherlock Holmes franchise. Don't let him kidnap the lovers.

The game offers a fun experience and hearty issues for those looking for an accurate simulation experience of the role of the investigator but fails to satisfy our curiosity about the story and the results of some issues, an experience that has suffered some serious errors in storytelling.

Chapter One got plenty of mechanics, but those doesn't add up into the solid picture, and the open-world minimizes all of the few good pieces that are there.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is a memorable game, maybe the best produced so far by Frogwares. It is not a classical adventure game, rather an open world Victorian tour de force in the early days of the most famous detective. As such it is not easy, mainly because the developers decided to let players figure out how a detective’s mind works.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is a decent game that will convince many players - especially Frogwares fans. The developers did not disappoint in terms of plot, side missions, or the city design itself, and if it were not for the illusory choices and frequent stuttering, the final rating would be much higher.

There are a lot of things to admire in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, and when it works, it all comes together in a fantastic new way. Unfortunately, there are far too many instances of clues that perhaps made sense to the team that made it, but not the player. Just when you start finding your stride, a roadblock appears as you struggle to figure out your next steps. The jump to an open-world setting ultimately feels unnecessary and adds to the confusion. Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is not a bad game at all, but the experimental gameplay feels like a missed opportunity that a sequel could perhaps refine.

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is gorgeous in graphics, with in-depth gameplay mechanics, and a deep, emotional story about mental health and trauma compile it into the masterpiece that it is.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is the best Sherlock game made by Frogwares to date. The franchise managed to make a big leap to the new generation without losing its essence, bringing a complete, cohesive and fun title.

There are a few rough edges to Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One; the odd duff texture here and there, and lip syncing that never quite looks right. But none of that ever gets in the way of just how engaging a game this is to play. Stepping into the shoes of the young Sherlock Holmes is a real treat, and Frogwares continues to excel at doing what it does best: delivering an immersive experience that really makes the player feel like they’re actually a detective. This is by far the developer’s best yet.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One successfully puts you into the shoes of London’s greatest detective, albeit with crippling, pace-killer conveyance issues. However, the precision-based combat, fun crime scene investigations and decent story help to mitigate the general lack of direction. Holmes is also as sassy as ever.

Frogwares goes back to the early days of Sherlock Holmes as a detective with a very safe and simple prequel focused on freedom for the player.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is just the ideal detective game. The story has a meaning and even though the story feels a little bit extravagant due to its original way of narration you can’t simply leave the story untold. Characters including Sherlock and Jon are well-written and even though some character acts strangely or you just don’t like them, there is always some reason behind the behavior. The open-world is the game’s general pride, but it mostly feels empty despite having something to offer. On the other hand, the absence of map and navigation gives a gentle touch to its detective gameplay. Luckily, everything bad is suppressed by everything great the game has to offer. Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is an example of how detective titles should be done.

It's not bad. Open world and improved action are both double-edged swords of this game. However, each case is still interesting and the process of investigating has been much more excellently upgraded than ever. And being able to meet young Sherlock Holmes is a great power that can overcome all the shortcomings of the game.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is a great detective game that’s saddled with unfortunately mediocre combat and the occasionally obtuse clue to impede progression. Still, when it works, you feel like a true genius detective, so if you’re a fan of mystery games or Holmes himself, this may be the game for you.

Overall, Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is a fantastic detective game that is unique from other games in the series. The focus is on the origins story of Sherlock Holmes which has not been done in video game format. While the game doesn’t hold players hands, it provides a great deal of information to help to progress the story. It even allows for players to skip over combat if it is a feature that they aren’t interested in. Due to the level of care taken in the title, I absolutely adore Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. In my opinion it is one of the best detective games next to games like The Return of Obra Dinn. I absolutely love this title and can’t wait to see what comes out in the future!
