Shredders Reviews

Shredders is ranked in the 37th percentile of games scored on OpenCritic.

Shredders is pure, focusing on snowboarding while still being entertaining, and for that it succeeds. It’s something that’s never too demanding or too easy on you, and you can just perform tricks to your heart’s content, or work your way through the campaign. The game is available on PC and Xbox, and I do recommend you check this out on Xbox Game Pass if you have it. FoamPunch has a lot of ambition and desire to make something great, and while it does miss the mark a bit, it’s something you should still play. Shredders is a gratifying game that feels a little undercooked, even though the roster of pro-snowboarders that talk in the game sound totally baked.

Shredders, in an analogous sense, is more Session than it is Skate. It's hard to see the odd story resonating with anybody, the generously proportioned terrains are sparsely populated and, as a package, it feels feature-poor. This is all despite it feeling super confident in its controls and systems. It's a small slam from which the developer can dust themselves off, but it's far from a wipeout.

Shredders offers a fresh new snowboarding experience, a genre that has been starving for content lately. It has some great snow to shred and a surprisingly interesting narrative presentation, but it’s a bit light on content and lacks the needed spectacle to really impress.

I’m not an avid snowboarder by any means, but I’ve found Shredders to be a delight, a quick and rewarding, pick-up-and-play title that I can jump into for some quick runs after bashing my head against Elden Ring for far too long. It’s full of fun, humour and generally a delight to play.

Given it’s dropping straight onto Game Pass, and by offering a multiplayer experience straight out of the box, there’s every reason Shredders could be one of the most enduring indie games of 2022, especially as FoamPunch continues to refine what genuinely is a compelling, brilliant experience with a nod to all the snowboard gaming greats that came before it.

‎Shredders is a lovely return to the snow slopes, updating the experience seen in Amped to our days. Its semi-open world, trials, snow stars and licensed brands will delight fans of this sport. If you're not a fan, maybe this isn't your game, but don't hesitate to give it a try on Xbox Game Pass.‎

‎Shredders is a game with very good intentions, it aims to be a love letter to a sport like snowboarding, but it does not get to excite. And it is not because of its lack of shortcomings, but rather because of a lack of virtues. It becomes a fun game, but it's also very flat and monotonous. Unfortunately, it does not shine with its own light within the genre.‎

In our view, Shredders is an ideal Xbox Game Pass game. It's a game most players will get a few hours of enjoyment from, complete the missions and grab some achievements, and then move on. The dedicated fans will keep coming back for the fluid and rewarding gameplay, and maybe to get perfect scores on all those missions. If you go into it expecting a big-budget rival to the likes of SSX and Amped, you might be disappointed with what you find, but taken at face value, Shredders is a fun time and a worthy addition to the sports library on Game Pass.

If you’re a snowboarding fan, there’s a good chance you’ll get some hours of quality entertainment out of Shredders, especially if you manage to master its trick system. That’s a pretty big if though, as there’s some frustration involved. Still, available at a budget price, and included in Game Pass, it’s a decent new addition to a genre that’s pretty underrepresented these days, and with a low barrier to entry. It’s just a shame it isn’t a little more polished, and welcoming.

Shredders is a fun, straightforward dive into the world of snowboarding, with mostly great controls and movements, and plenty of real-world influences. Some rough edges and often poor performance are all that hold this title back.

Frustratingly this doesn't let up nearly enough as it should though, because the meat and potatoes of the experience; the exhilaration of just riding, is lost a bit to its gimmicky content-creator-driven lean and goalset.

Despite being fun, Shredders feels like an "introduction" to a bigger game that never comes.

Shredders fills the void left behind by SSX and Amped with its beautiful visuals, easy-to-pick-up nature, and a story that knows (and pokes fun of) the limitations brought by the indie space. While the game might be a bit jank in some areas, it's still a decent experience that's easy to recommend for Game Pass owners.

Shredders is an ambitious indie game, characterized by some too many edges but with the great quality of offering a snowboarding game that conveys passion for this discipline. The extremely complex control system can lead to some frustration, but those who have the patience to overcome a few too many failures will be rewarded with satisfaction and a lot of fun.

Shredders is described by the creators as a love letter from snowboarders for snowboarders and certainly can not be denied, although it also has some unpleasant consequences.

Shredders is a breath of chilly mountain air in the face of snowboarding fans everywhere. If you miss the genre's heyday of Cool Boarders, 1080 Snowboarding, and Amped, then it's definitely time to strap on a new pair of digital bindings.

There’s still room for a big snowboarding game in today’s video game landscape, but Shredders isn’t able to fill it. While it looks nice when you’re not moving, issues with performance, controls, mission design, voice acting, story, nearly every aspect of this game is flawed. So value your time and wait for the next title in the genre.
