Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is a musou proudly holding on to the canonical series, which fails, however, to shine due to a backward technical compartment.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes surprised me in many ways. It made me enjoy what I once thought was a monotonous hack’n’slash romp and it made me grow attached to a new protagonist with a stupid name. At the same time, it let me down in other ways. The support, while having some really great content and conversations, made me ache with how little it gave. The story, while intriguing and engaging, had its pacing all over the place.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes deserves to be thought of as one of the strongest Warriors crossovers so far. The game fully dives into the elements of its parent series and is all the better for it.

Three Hopes is one of the best musou spin-offs released to date, combining its tried-and-tested gameplay with a level of story depth that was missing in the first Fire Emblem Warriors. Its sheer scope may be a bit much for players simply looking for a hack-and-slash action game, though.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is a Hack 'n Slash in the same style as Dynasty Warriors. The big difference with other games in the genre comes from the influence of the Fire Emblem series. The fast-paced battle levels with hordes of enemies alternate quickly with quiet conversations to forge bonds or with a political undertone.

In terms of scale and structure, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is the most impressive Nintendo/Musou crossover yet. And possibly one of the most successful Musou collabs in general in terms of replicating the vibe.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is a Musou game that asks a lot of “what ifs.” What if Byleth didn’t come to Garreg Mach as a teacher? What if someone else ended up aiding Claude, Dimitri, and Edelgard when the three encountered bandits? What if, instead of a traditional tactical game like Three Houses, Three Hopes was a more active one? The answers to all of them, perhaps not shockingly, are rather fascinating.

For those committed to learning the full story of a vastly divergent universe than that of Three Houses, Fire Emblem: Three Hopes delivers countless hours of exploration, frenetic battles, and heartfelt interactions with the game’s beloved characters.

The most genuine fun I’ve had with a story-driven game in ages, and one that’s a great entryway into a beloved franchise.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes blends the classic Musou formula with the strategic aspect of its namesake impressively well. Throw in a story that's more immersive than you'd expect and you're left with one great Warriors spin-off.

It’s so easy to recommend Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes to not only fans of Fire Emblem, but also those simply seeking a high-octane action game. And if you also happen to enjoy politically-charged stories, you’ll absolutely fall in love with it. This is, without a doubt, one of the best Warriors games yet, taking strategy elements of the Fire Emblem series to embellish the gameplay in all the right ways. And the masterstroke is that, despite being set in the same world as Fire Emblem: Three Houses, its narrative cleverly makes playing that title an option rather than a necessity.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is an interesting "what if?" direction for the franchise. It genuinely feels like an alternate universe take on Three Houses with action combat, rather than feeling like a mere license. The core gameplay is a lot of fun but becomes one-note as you get more powerful, but it's not enough to sour the experience. Overall, it's a good Warriors game and a big improvement over the first Fire Emblem Warriors.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes carries enough of Three Houses to appeal to that game's fans even if they're not into the hack-and-slash of Musou games. Warriors fans should like it, too. If your Fire Emblem fandom reaches further back than the 3DS, however, you'll once again have to grin and bear all the fluff.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes succeeds admirably as both a spin-off stacked with fanservice that truly understands the source material and as a compelling take on the Warriors format. It's not going to win over any detractors of musou-style gameplay and it starts to buckle under the weight of repetition by the end, but if you're a fan of Three Houses and can handle that, you're in for a treat.

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes does right by Three Houses in the best of ways, but it does lean a bit too much into the Dynasty Warriors way in others. For diehards though, this is a must play.

Clinging to the main features of the license to which it is inspired, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes has proved to be a solid and fun title, as well as a hybrid potentially able to satisfy both lovers of Intelligent Systems strategy and admirers of the typical action of musou.

As long as you're OK with the usual Musou repetition, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is a worthy follow-up to Three Houses.
