MX vs ATV Legends has a solid core. The arcade-style racing with motocross bikes and four-wheelers is fun, though repetitive over the course of the years-long career mode. Even allowing that Legends does not aspire to shiny, triple-A brilliance, the game’s performance, audio and up-close visuals can be pretty lackluster. The nicely varied tracks and huge natural environments compete with stuttering framerates and canned animations. With Legends, the franchise has moved closer to the finish line in many ways. In others, it still seems stalled at the starting line.

MX vs ATV Legends manages to effectively convey the feeling of driving a Dirt bike and has incredible physics that make driving a real pleasure. Unfortunately, the game modes are scarce, with little content and it has several technical problems that make the experience not as enjoyable as we would have liked. A fun and entertaining title but could be improved.

If there’s one bright spot, it’s the new “trails” game mode, a checkpoint-type race that has more varied terrain. It’s quite fun, and very chaotic, serving as the high point amid innumerable lows. And that about sums MX vs. ATV Legends up: at its core, this is a buggy, flawed mess that falls far short of other racers on the market.

It sounded like something new and fresh was coming but unfortunately it was not. MX vs ATV Legends is not bad but not the best either.

It is difficult to recommend MX vs ATV Legends under any circumstances. The opening moments are punishingly slow to get through, and the whole process of going through the events lacks any polish. The races all suffer from a myriad of issues - including bad track design, wonky physics, constant stuttering, and a fiddly handling system against braindead AI. With the ability to power up all three of your vehicles after only three races, the drive to progress is barely there. This is a case where there are plenty of other motocross racing games that are worth your time, unless you're willing to wait a year or two to see if the team can throw enough patches to make this somewhat decent.

So, if you enjoy off-road racing, you can do much worse than MX vs ATV Legends. It’s certainly the best the series has been in some years, and looks better than ever thanks to being on PS5 for the first time. There’s a wide range of gameplay options available, and being able to wrangle with one of three vehicle types means you’re unlikely to get bored very quickly. The AI and balancing could do with a bit of tweaking, but it’s not enough to ruin the experience.

Despite all the content that players will find in MX vs ATV Legends, they'll find a lack of focus on the user interface and the quality of life for the players. Something that truly holds back what could have been a great motocross racing game.

The technical condition of MX vs. ATV Legends on PS5 is far from "decent" and even a pleasant career with a relaxing driving model are not enough elements for me to recommend this racer.

‎Being honest with you, it is ‎‎a delivery that I thought I could offer myself more‎‎, as I said the essence has it. The open world, the great circuits with impossible jumps and acrobatics that will leave you with your mouth open, in addition this MX vs ATV Legends has a graphic aspect that meets but is tarnished by the ‎‎large "popping"‎‎ it has. Another point in favor for some is that it also has dubbing in Latin Spanish. But the weakest point at least for me, comes with the handling of the vehicle, I notice the ‎‎very rough gameplay‎‎ and with options that should still be polished a little more. In addition to that I think the sound is also quite improvable.‎

‎MX vs ATV Legends is the ultimate experience that THQ Nordic provides for fans of extreme motorcycle racing. With many hours of content and fun, in addition to having high quality graphics.‎

With a little more time in the oven and attention to detail, MX vs ATV Legends could have been a fantastic off-road racer. As it is at present, it's just an okay one, with a general lack of both polish and event variety letting things down somewhat. The bugs and glitches currently present in the game have knocked our score down a tad as well, although hopefully, they'll be sorted soon after release. The game's cut-price $40 entry point makes this one that bit more appealing, but we can only really recommend it once the bugs have been fully ironed out. 'Legends'? Not just yet.

MX vs ATV Legends is the white elephant gift for fans of good racers. Not even MX, ATV or UTV racing diehards will find anything worthwhile in this broken physics and presentation mess. Hard pass.

MX vs ATV Legends is a great game, there’s no doubt about it, but on the other hand, it’s pretty clear that it can’t be considered a finished title at this point.

The gameplay in MX vs. ATV Legends is a mixed bag. There’s a good amount to like here, as the bike and vehicle customization allows for players to get their ideal tunes, which is perfect for getting things right on bumpy, treacherous roads.

I won't use big words like "Motocross games are back!" or "Extreme sports games are popular again!" but I can assure you MX vs ATV Legends is a step in the right direction despite some problems. It's a shame MX vs ATV Legends' next-gen version doesn't feel like next-gen though.

MX vs ATV Legends is not a bad game, but considering the benefits granted by improved hardware, and the ever-increasing scope of the racing genre, I expected a bit more from it other than just “the same, but slightly prettier”. For everything it does right, such as its great environments and lighting effects, as well as great controls, it bogs the experience down with terrible animations, a plethora of glitches, and an open world that is way less exciting than the one seen in its predecessor.

I adored this series on PlayStation 2 and even in the Xbox 360 era, but it seems it regresses more than progresses. I didn’t think this game would be as bad as its predecessor, but it is so bland and uninspired. There are a few redeeming aspects like the controls, the new Trails mode, and the better time of driving ATVs and UTVs. I just can’t recommend this at full price, or even half-price; it’s a game that still needs a lot of work. There’s certainly nothing legendary about MX vs ATV Legends.

MX vs ATV Legends could have been a decent arcade-style, sim-lite racer. Whatever appeal could be found in mastering jumps and customizing vehicles is beset by numerous issues. It's not grossly offensive but you're better off investing time in just about any other racer.

Compared to the disastrous MX vs ATV: All Out, Rainbow Studios has taken not one but two steps forward. MX vs ATV Legends is surprisingly fun and features a good amount of content.

MX vs ATV Legends proves to be a worthy evolution of its predecessors, with an improved Career mode and the addition of a significantly large and enjoyable open world. Add to these the high degree of customization, the immediacy of the riding model, the new Trails mode and the excellent implementation of dynamic weather conditions. Too bad just for some technical flaws and the high cost of DLC.
