Gotham Knights should not be confused as a sequel to the excellent Batman: Arkham Knight. Instead this Spin-Off explores a new and interesting story about the death of Gotham’s protector and falls victim to some of modern gaming’s worst trends. The crafting system feels unsubstantial and while the four different playable characters are all different and interesting, it feels like substantial abilities of the prior games were taken away and locked behind different characters, rather than each member of the bat family bringing something new to the table. Despite its shortcomings and missteps, we found “Gotham Knights” to be very fun to play, when focusing on the story over the repetitive open world activities and the multiplayer is an excellent fit for both the story and style of game.

Gotham Knights, despite initial skepticism from the Batman fandom and the Arkham franchise, is by no means a bad game. It is true that we expected another bat adventure before the bat family, much less charismatic but at least with the change in concept we have received a funniest cooperative multiplayer. For the rest, we will find an action and role sandbox in an impressive but intergenerational Gotham. We will enjoy quite a lot with the main plot and the villain missions, and not so much with the premeditated crimes that will end up going through us.

Gotham Knights has good ideas, unfortunately, never reaches its true potential. The combat is fun, but feels less agile than previous Batman games. Also, the open world is full of repetitive missions and the RPG elements are insignificant. However, we had fun with the story, charismatic characters and playing with each hero.

Gotham Knights don't offer anything new or interesting in terms of actual gameplay; most of the game's mechanics have been done better elsewhere. The only saving grace of the game is that it features members of the Bat-family as playable characters in an action game, which is something that's extremely rare and should be done more often. The combat can also be sort of fun if the game wasn't so grindy and if it runs more smoothly.

I’ve had a spiffing time. I’ve loved perching on gargoyles, sneaking up on enemies, shooting them in the face with Red Hood’s guns, meeting the Court of Owls and prowling around their hidden abodes. I’ve loved all the different suits and filling out the skill trees. I’ve loved Alfred and his fatherly advice and the family’s grief for Bruce. I’ve loved adjusting to evading instead of countering. I’ve loved the villains and the humour. I’ve loved trying to work out which hero is best and which to take with me on particular missions. Gotham Knights is a GOOD game and while it does deserve a decent helping of criticism it also deserves a lot of praise.

I had a great time playing Gotham Knights and yes it has its issues but overall it’s a solid addition to the superhero genre. The story is a bit by the numbers and relied a lot on combat but the character portrayal and heart of the game shown more than made for that in my opinion.

Gotham Knights tries hard to escape Batman's shadow and still delivers a compelling full-length brawler, but feels assembled by basic action-adventure with pieces that feel all too dated.

While fun at first, the simplistic, bland combat and boring navigation makes the game less than it could have been.

Gotham Knights is an open world RPG. The main story is around 25-30 hours, but we can extend it if we get collectibles or other tasks. We will also have a New Game + mode to start with all our progress with the characters, but with more difficulty. The game, despite having good main and secondary missions, can be repetitive. In addition, the control of the characters is not fine.

Despite some frustrating design decisions in Gotham Knights, WB Games Montréal deliver a very playable twist on the Arkham formula.

Gotham Knights fails to meet the expectations set by the Arkham series, and even though there is huge potential and material to work with, the end products is subpar in almost every aspect.

Gotham Knights takes the concept of inconsequential open world busywork to a ludicrous extreme, exquisitely culminating years of creative laziness in the genre. Nothing can adequately convey how monotonous, how unimaginative, how fucking banal this thing is. It manages to be offensive in its structural mediocrity, and that’s before we consider its enervative combat, inadequate controls, and threadbare world. Wearing the flayed skin of a live service and managing to be worse than any one of them, this sorry mockery of the Arkham series will rightly be forgotten in a year’s time - sooner if we’re lucky.

Gotham Knights features a lot of perplexing changes, and suffers from being a good game fraught with bad decisions. While I think the combat can be sluggish, and the grind is not especially interesting or engaging, it never stopped me from having fun. When the game gets out of its own way, I was having a blast solving crimes and interacting with my favorite villains. It’s these glimmers of greatness that’ll keep its hold on you just long enough to see the credits. This won’t be able to take on the mantle and legacy that Batman: Arkham Knight left behind, but that’s okay, and so is Gotham Knights.

Gotham Knights deliver one of the best co-op experiences, but technical glitches and the finale pull the recommendation down slightly. The possibility of cooperation is not just a bonus but is one of the game's fundamental building blocks. However, that doesn't mean you won't enjoy the game if you play it alone. So we can recommend Gotham Knights with 7 points out of 10.

Gotham Knights is a project that could have become a new stage on superhero videogame experiences but became a victim of what Batman's big legacy has already brought to the genre as a game that will inevitably be forgotten and purposely ignored.

Gotham Knights is an incredibly average game that brings absolutely nothing new to the table. The graphics do not look like they belong to the next-gen, the story is really easy to guess, and the combat is nothing new. How can a game that allows you to go patrolling in Gotham be incredibly average!

Gotham Knights is a proper super hero open world game. Its story, gameplay and in general experience, were a great return to a Batman game.

Gotham Knights doesn't do much to set itself apart from its competitors. Besides the setting, the game has the same pros and cons as a game of its genre.

Gotham Knights have produced a fantastic spin-off title, as well as a king-sized open-world experience with easy on the eye visuals. Plus, the idea that you and a friend can fight crimes together is understandable why this is one of the reasons this game had gotten so much hype. With how the game is set up, you’d conclude that it revolves around combat. However, the game is in need of a bit of refinement to distribute a more polished outlook.

While it does attempt to carve out its own identity with its slower pace and more intimate storytelling, it’s hard to separate this game from the Batman games of the past. But regardless of its lack of originality, Gotham Knights remains a compelling experience – one littered with intriguing and thoughtful interpretations of characters, and a creeping sense of dread that will keep you rushing through case files, determined to save Gotham from itself.
