While some elements of this entry are a bit dated, there is still a great story and a meaty amount of story to enjoy. If you can't access the original trilogy, this is an excellent way to start your immersion in the series.

Trails from Zero is one of the best games in The Legend of Heroes franchise offering quite a deep and satisfying experience. The story is interesting, the characters are well developed and the interaction with them is very successful. Although it was initially released on PlayStation Portable in 2010 for the Japanese market, the fan translation into English by the Geofront group has allowed NIS America to bring us this interesting title to the West. Any fan of role-playing games in general and Nihon Falcom titles in particular will enjoy it.

While it very much feels like a traditional JRPG, there’s just a flair to this title that pulled me in

Impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.

The missing piece in the Legend of Heroes franchise finally makes its way west. Trials of Zero is a great addition to the franchise featuring a great cast of characters and a fantastic strategic combat system. It's just unfortunate that the PS4 version of the game didn't get the same upgrades that it did on other platforms.

As a franchise newcomer, I found my entry point with The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero utterly fascinating, tantalising, and enjoyable. Within are some of my favourite blending of mechanics and tidbits within turn-based combat I've seen yet. It's a comfy RPG that you can lose plenty of time to, sinking into the moving character narrative, all set within the colourful world of Crossbell. Character models will occasionally show their age and menus are a little funky. Still, it's easy to forgive and just hang out with Lloyd and friends, saving the better part of humanity. Team SSS forever.

Nihon Falcom and NIS America give us yet another larger-than-life adventure in Trails from Zero. The Legend of Heroes is slowly climbing the ranks of my list of favorite JRPGs, and this one adds important pieces of the puzzle. The quality-of-life improvements that come with the Switch and PC versions would deserve the name of remastered. In short, if you want a JRPG with an emotional story, very enjoyable old-school visuals, and solid combat, give this one a chance.

The Legend of Heroes : Trails From Zero is an excellent, and I reiterate, excellent RPG title for fans. Being associated with a saga helps in that respect, because we always want more, and the Trails saga gives us more. It takes some patience to endure the slow but interesting development of the plot, where the care taken to unite these four characters and their different personalities is palpable, making us immerse ourselves in the story that is presented. This charisma, allied to the captivating strategic combats, makes this creation a title to take into account even today.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero finally comes west in a great edition that the fans who followed the series so far will enjoy a lot. Unfortunately, the PS4 version doesn't have the same benefits of the PC and Switch editions, but to JRPG fans who have access to the non-Sony systems, the title is an excellent choice. Expectations are high for Trails to Azure also getting a high quality port in 2023.

Complete JRPG that emulates the classics of the 90s in several aspects, but providing a world, turn-based combat mechanics and original plots. The protagonists shine with their own light, but it is clear that Trails from Zero is only the starting point for larger-scale installments. Even so, being on a smaller scale, it can tell in much more detail all the stories around Crossbell.

Trails from Zero may have been outdated in some aspects, such as the technical plot or some design decisions, but it is still a small RPG gem to discover, thanks to its superb story and dialogues, which marry with a very interesting world. If you overcome its slow start and repetitive tasks, you will enjoy a great adventure.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero is a superb entry in the long-running franchise that made me pumped for Trails to Azure as well as Trails into Reverie and the inevitable release of the Kuro no Kiseki series. There sure are a lot of these games but I still can't get enough.

Trails from Zero is a fantastic and unmissable story that lays the groundworks for the Crossbell Arc. We can't deny the game aged poorly, and we probably wouldn't even recommend it to a series novice. However, for those who have already flown the skies of Liberl, Falcom's "new" title is definitely an important part of the journey to Zemuria thanks to its incredible story and wonderful settings.

Trails from Zero has been well worth the wait. This is a classic Falcom RPG - an engrossing, crime-fighting adventure through one of the property's greatest settings. The experience as a whole does get bogged down in tedious side content and some poorly aged design, but fantastic characters and fascinating story beats hold everything together. Based on our time with Zero, we can't wait for Trails to Azure in 2023.

Trails from Zero is kind of a miracle in its own right, the fact that we got a Western release after so many years, and that Trails from Azure is right around the corner, still feels surreal. But, for all its strengths, this is still a game from more than a decade ago, that was originally designed for the PSP. If you can get past that, then Trails from Zero won’t disappoint, and whether you are a series veteran or a newcomer, it provides a wonderful world in which you can truly lose yourself for hours at a stretch.
