The DioField Chronicle has an exceptionally accessible progression, brings good customization to the characters, has beautiful concept art and a coherent and characterful audiovisual style. Despite some technical parameters that leave a little to be desired, the script that doesn't flow as well as it could and the level design that is one of the simplest I've ever seen in SRPGs, the balance is still a little more positive. The title is recommended for newcomers to strategy RPGs, but some veterans may feel dissatisfied or a little bored.

The DioField Chronicle has an extremely addictive and well-constructed live-action combat system, as well as a beautiful artwork. However, it suffers from flat characters and an unattractive story.

The DioField Chronicle is a good game with a somewhat haphazard narrative structure and whose gameplay is sometimes not very fluid. Still, we will have fun with the adventures of Andrias and company: not everything has to be AAA games.

Sure enough with its relatively simplistic challenge, brisk battles and unspectacular presentation, The DioField Chronicle will likely struggle to find an audience among the burgeoning throng of armchair generals looking for their next tactical fix. For everyone else however who would like to a dip a toe or two in those genre waters, The DioField Chronicle is the sort of easily accessible, dip-in/dip-out tactical RPG that you need in your life right now.

The DioField Chronicle is a great real-time strategy game for consoles. It controls well, the stages aren’t too long, and there’s enough mechanical depth to make stage replays interesting. Although I couldn’t be bothered with the game’s story, the scenes themselves don’t last long and all of it can be skipped at any point. I would have liked some more quality-of-life features such as always-on enemy range marking, but what’s missing hardly impacts the gameplay. This is a game I can recommend to tactics and JRPG fans alike.

I enjoyed my time with The DioField Chronicle and look forward to a sequel if one ever gets produced. Let's just hope that it features more variety in the aspects that its predecessor lacks as well as packs more of a punch challenge-wise.

If you're interested in a uniquely told story of macro and micro power struggles, you must be willing to wade through a lengthy series of repetitive battles to get through it.

The combat system is what will keep most people going until the end, with the multitude of tactics one can think of and the combinations. What will tire you is the repetitive structure of the missions, as well as the lack of social elements that would develop the relationships of the characters and, by extension, the gameplay.

The Diofield Chronicle is a refreshing take on the tactical battle game where positioning is key. The game offers a wide variety of missions, enemies and teammates, but is slightly let down by a leveldesign that doesn't fully explore the tactical possibilities and a control scheme that doesn't always get the job done. Still, the game has plenty to offer to keep you interested during its 40-some hour campaign.

While the home base aspect of the game is underdeveloped, the combat at the core of The DioField Chronicle is a breath of fresh air. Paired with a story steeped in intrigue and drama, The DioField Chronicle will likely satisfy fans of the genre while possibly charting a new path for it in the future.

The DioField Chronicle effortlessly combines real-time strategy and tactical turn-based gameplay. Featuring a very approachable battle system that streamlines several elements of it’s presentation, so the focus always remains on combat. Albeit, the story is often too preoccupied with politics and plot-specific events that the audience probably won’t care too much about, along with a steep difficulty curve that forces players to complete optional content and AI that makes some rather silly decisions at times. If you can get past these issues however, the addictive hybrid gameplay should keep you hooked throughout.

The DioField Chronicle has proved to be quite the surprise. Its story isn’t the most riveting out there, but it is interesting, with a cast of characters whose motives aren’t always clear. But what carries it are its battles, which are enjoyably deep but not bogged down in complexity or length. They’re fun and engaging, challenging you to think and act fast while making use of the skills available to you. Everything comes together to create one of Square Enix’s most enjoyable RPGs in some time, with a combat system that we hope we haven’t seen the last of.

We found The DioField Chronicle to be a fresh, interesting and entertaining strategy game. There are several details that could be polished, but in the end its strengths shine enough to be insignificant. We are talking about a game that genre enthusiasts will want to try.

Ultimately, The DioField Chronicle surprised me with just how much depth its combat system offered, and powering my way through its levels proved to be a joy, despite its narrative and characterization shortcomings. The real-time strategy battles are an innovative aspect of the game that I’d love to see adapted in more RPGs, and while I do wish the protagonists weren’t as cookie-cutter as they come, I’ll take bland stories and pretty art over boring gameplay any day.

The DioField Chronicle surpasses every expectation, delivering a great Strategy RPG thanks to its challenging real-time battle system and a rich setting that sustains a great story full of politics and good characters. The few issues are due to the simplistic progression system and the narrative that could be even better, but its a game that deserves the attention of fans of the genre.
