Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe is classic Kirby for better and for worse. It’s not a student of innovation in any fashion, but rather a solid adventure spruced up with new bells and whistles.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe proves that it's still a solid 2D platformer after all these years, and now it's been elevated. The inclusion of new powers makes the adventure feel new, even for those who have played the Wii original, while Helper Magolor's presence ensures that players will see the game's ending. The inclusion of Merry Magoland in a nice touch, as it provides several reasons to return to the oft-ignored minigames. Magolor's Epilogue continues Nintendo's current trend of giving remasters significant mini-campaigns to encourage a revisit from longtime fans. Unless you don't care at all for Kirby or platformers, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe should be in your Switch library.

Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe feels like a comfortable game. Offering plenty of additional content for anyone who has played the original release, it's a mighty fine time for Kirby fans new and old alike. This is the best 2D Kirby game available on the Nintendo Switch, even if it doesn’t quite match the originality of Kirby Planet Robobot from the Nintendo 3DS. It’s a great title for families and provides that lovely little dopamine hit that the series is famous for. Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is a brilliant break from the gritty world of first-person shooters, tactical RPGs, and fighting games.

Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe goes the extra mile in giving new life to an older game, going beyond the standard remaster route by remaking its visuals, adding a new minigame mode and also throwing in a post-game adventure starring Magolor to boot. At the same time, the campaign remains fun especially when you have other players joining in. Non-Kirby fans might find the action a bit too simple. For folks who want a polished action game with multiplayer co-op that’s also family-friendly, the game represents a welcome return indeed.

And that delight is the core appeal of a game like Kirby’s Dream Land—that is, one that overflows with joy and happiness via relatively calm and easygoing gameplay that’s matched by bright and colorful graphics. Dream Land has never looked better than it does on the Nintendo Switch with this release, which updates the relatively plain 3D characters of the Wii version with gorgeous cel-shaded renderings that look like a cartoon come to life.

When you return to a return, you risk drowning in sentiment to the detriment of the experience. Instead, Return to Dream Land Deluxe skillfully channels its sentiments to refresh Kirby's legacy and add something new on top of it. It is perhaps the most Kirby game to ever Kirby, and there's nothing wrong with that.

While adding some wonderful modes like Merry Magoland and the Magolor Epilogue, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe leaves a lot to be desired with its shallow and boring level design carried over from an ok 12 year old game, not justifying it's full price.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe is an expert remaster, keeping everything from the original but adding optional new content.

Ultimately, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe plays it very safe. It is a solid ‘port’ of a good Wii game, and is therefore susceptible to the same issues relating to the original title’s gameplay and structure; with very little added to feel exciting or new. Innovation has seemingly gone out the window, and surprise is nowhere to be seen; leaving faithful Kirby fans in the dark just as much as newcomers to the franchise. With that said, it remains a solid game. It performs well on the likes of the Nintendo Switch, and feels polished and refined enough not to complain about anything other than its age. The game is a serviceable nod to the original Wii version, and should complement the average Kirby fan’s library well enough.

While I might have gone into Deluxe a virtual blank slate, it left me shocked at what a fun game it is. The stages feature clever (albeit relatively easy) challenges and set pieces that make each one a delight to explore. With the ability to pop in and out friends at will, it’s also simplicity itself to turn Deluxe into a proper multiplayer romp. If minigames are more your style, Merry Magoland takes the already solid selection from Return to Dream Land and spruces it up with new additions and a cohesive party experience. Rounded out with Magalor’s Epilogue and a bunch of other post-game unlockables, Deluxe lives up to its name and then some. This is a must for Kirby diehards and platformer fans in general.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is a good example of the series that is worth it for those who like 2D platformers. Although the simple design of the levels makes completing them easy, the game follows the maxim that makes Kirby one of Nintendo's most interesting mainstays: the value here is the fun of the journey and doing everything the game presents, including post-game content, is a great challenge for anyone who is a completionist.

Although players of the original Kirby's Return to Dream Land will appreciate the experience of re-visiting the title with better graphics and smoother gameplay, yet the same familiar story, the title is still as appealing to new players who want an authentic Kirby experience.

Return to Dream Land Deluxe has a lot baked in, but I would have rather that Magolor’s quest launch as a separate game, and then had Dream Land Deluxe be a forty dollar standalone with the option to DLC Magolor in if it meant that much to people. We’ve seen what Kirby can be, and yes, the next “new” Kirby game probably will be. But this is what we’ve gotten this year, and I have to call it like it is. It’s cute, it’s fun, and it makes my family happy. It’s just slightly overvaluing its own worth to make it a solid purchase at the time, and that, like Kirby, sucks.

For most players though, it’s the main meat of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe – the platforming adventure – that will draw them in. It might not be the most revolutionary game – after all, the original is 12 years old – but it’s a charming platformer that’s as joyous as it always has been. And with the addition of Merry Magoland, this is a sizeable package with essentially endless replayability.

With Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe we find the improved and definitive version of one of the best Kirby titles as well as one of the most beloved by fans, now in high definition and at 60 FPS with a renewed and very interesting visual aspect. and aesthetic. In addition, the game contains succulent additions such as the inclusion of a new ending/epilogue of the adventure and a multitude of mini-games that will make the evenings more enjoyable in the company of other players, yes, always locally. An adventure not very challenging, but fun to play, whose conclusion will take us about 7 hours in its main adventure and barely 2 hours in the case of its epilogue.
