The heights of Warzone 2’s combat and stunning map design are held down by a rocky launch rife with issues.

Warzone 2 makes a good first impression. While it shares some similarities with its predecessor, Infinity Ward has delivered a more tactical battle royale that smartly subverts expectations.

New additions are fresh for the battle royale, while overhauls to some of Warzone classic features feels like a step backwards.

Despite its room for growth, I can’t recall the last time I was genuinely this excited to sit down for multiple rounds of a first-person shooter. As an endless story generator that spins up scenarios of randomized action and survival, few multiplayer games have come close to capturing my time and attention as thoroughly as Warzone 2.0’s DMZ has.

Iterates on the first Warzone with tweaks that make your decisions more meaningful, all backed up by a new map and DMZ mode that make this a complete Call Of Duty package.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is a free-to-play shooter that innovates and renews the gaming experience of the previous chapter, adding many new features and changes especially focused on gameplay. The result is certainly good, even if it lacks in originality.

It’s going to take “Warzone” veterans a little getting used to.

Warzone 2.0 tries to cater to a wider audience by borrowing ideas from its competition, but it delivers a hodgepodge of ideas that seems to forget what made the original Warzone so iconic.

It appears Warzone 2 is off to a very solid start. It’s worth mentioning there are some technical issues, with Al Mazrah’s huge map taking a little while to load, and the occasional stuttering (mainly on PC), but all-in-all, it feels more stable than Warzone 1 did during its rougher periods. Al Mazrah might just be 2023’s hottest destination if this early taste is anything to go by.

Warzone 2.0 is every bit the sequel you hoped it would be. While minor improvements could still be useful, Al Mazrah is arguably the best map to ever grace the Call of Duty battle royale experience. The tactical pacing is a welcome change, DMZ is a revelation for the casual space, and it's all built on the best gunplay in first-person shooters. Infinity Ward has knocked it out of the park.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0's battle royale is an iterative upgrade. If you enjoyed the original Warzone, you'll enjoy the new one. The DMZ mode, on the other hand, is new, and a lot of fun thanks to the fact that you're never sure if you're going to run into another player as you try and complete your own objectives.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is a chapter that, without upsetting the skeleton that made it great among battle royale, tries to consolidate its position in the hearts of fans. Many small interesting introductions and some that raise concerns, but in the end we are talking about a project able to bring back into the game all the users who were starting to get tired of the progenitor. Goal at the moment achieved and with a comforting result in terms of accesses, but in the long run the feeling is that we will have to dare much more to stay in vogue.

It is early days for Warzone 2.0 and I imagine this early phase will be all about listening to the community and engaging in their feedback. I do have some things I’d love to see changed or altered over time, but the gameplay loop is absolutely perfect for me. It feels less about players constantly rushing for loadouts and more about fighting with a mixture of what you can find on the ground.

Warzone 2.0 is not the battle royale revolution, but probably no one expected it to be. It is the right evolution of the mass phenomenon that was the first chapter, innovating some mechanics but not radically changing the game. We particularly liked the change to loadouts making matches more competitive by limiting the various player perks. It slightly increases the difficulty in matches however decreases too much in the gulag allowing potentially all 4 players to save themselves. On the other hand, we find all the other changes, including the map, very interesting, not deviating too much from the good foundations of Warzone in 2019. It will therefore remain to be seen whether it will be able to have the gigantic impact of its predecessor or whether the audience is now saturated with Warzone as well, although in our opinion it has the potential to remain in the hearts of old and new users alike.

Infinity Ward has succeeded in bringing all the elements which made Warzone one of the best Battle Royale games and has used it to build yet a more refined experience with Warzone 2.0, despite some bugs here and there, Warzone 2 is the definitive Free Battle Royale experience you would want to dive into and a masterfully crafted game.
