Gungrave G.O.R.E suffers from old style linear gameplay tropes - while the combat is fluid, the constant enemy waves over 12-14 hours quickly lose any sense of joy. Lack of available exploration also means you really only have the boss fights to look forward to.

The original Gungrave is one of those PS2 titles that I often admired from afar. As a predominantly Xbox fanboy in my teenage years, my time was mainly spent on the battlefield of Halo: Combat Evolved. So sadly, my experience of Gungrave remained looking at the box art in my local video-game store.

Iggymob, the developer behind this game has resolved the dilemma of an IP that had been yearning for a sequel but had to accept a new era and generation of gamers who weren’t too familiar with the original creatives. The modern gamers were welcomed to this new iteration of the original IP, enjoy the game to its heart's content, and get a good night's sleep once they’re done and dusted with. It’s also a good gesture to fill the position of a game that doesn’t feel too distant to know its origins and most of the negative feedback they received in the earlier stages of the release has been patched through some major updates twice before its first month. These warranty-like solutions gave us hope that they will be cared throughout, and even showed some considerations of adding a history section to tell its detailed origin story as a form of a flashback.

The Gungrave series harkens back to the heyday of Red Company when the developer was churning out excellent games such as the Sakura Wars and Tengai Makyo series. Nearly two decades later, Gungrave G.O.R.E. returns to a much changed world with different tastes. For its part, Gungrave G.O.R.E. faithfully sticks to the trademark mechanics of the past games. It’s definitely a risky decision as classic Gungrave is an acquired taste that isn’t for everybody. If you loved the old games and protagonist Beyond the Grave’s top-notch drip, however, Gungrave G.O.R.E. is essentially the Gungrave that you know and love.

I had such high hopes for Gungrave G.O.R.E. and it peaked with the intro cutscene, but it all fell apart from the moment the gameplay started. The worst part is I continued to play mostly in hopes it got better, but also because I just wanted to see more cutscenes. In the end through, Gungrave G.O.R.E. just didn’t feel like a game that respected the time of the people playing it, and didn’t respect the fans who returned from the PS2 days.

If you like anime, John Wick-like gunplay and have a certain tolerance for jagged edges, Gungrave G.O.R.E. is a fantastic use of your gaming time. If you’ve been around since Gungrave on the PS2 and Madhouse’s weirdly brilliant anime adaptation, I’m surprised you’re even reading this.

The PS2 series has returned with modernized controls, but old problems. Simple but satisfying gunplay wrapped in a stylish package is marred by a padded runtime, uneven presentation, and poorly done localization. Gungrave G.O.R.E's promising start transforms into a slog to its finish through bullet sponges, bad encounter design, and worse platforming.

Gungrave G.O.R.E is unlikely to be acclaimed by a wide audience, but fans of the franchise will delight in its classic gameplay and modern visuals.

Gungrave G.O.R.E seems 20 years out of date. The gameplay is too restrictive and without ideas, the graphics lag behind current action games, and the story is very chaotic. There aren't many reasons why you should even consider buying the game.

Gungrave G.O.R.E is a solid action romp that doesn't try to pretend it's more than it actually is. It's sometimes a bit frustrating and repetitive, but usually it feels like a fun old-school throwback.

The only impressive thing about this game is how it fails miserably on every front. Who was this for, and what was the idea behind it - all those questions will remain unanswered.

Gungrave G.O.R.E is a decent game. It's not the best shooter, but it is often very entertaining if just for the spectacle. It has a few issues, mostly in level design, and the story isn't particularly memorable, but there's plenty of fun to be had in chainsawing your enemies with a transforming coffin.

Gungrave G.O.R.E. is a massacre from the beginning to the end. The story is negligible, but is strongly supported by the uninhibited gameplay. At first it can be difficult for most players, but soon you will be sucked into the addictive firefights.

Gungrave G.O.R.E. is a game that feels stuck in the past. The design is excellent, the characters are fun, but the game just gets so repetitive and boring far too quickly. It isn’t a long game either and it feels like it is. That is not a good sign. I wanted to love it more than I did as I love the universe and have fond memories of those older PS2 games. This just feels like a continuation of those without the modern design and control scheme, and that drags down the fun factor over time.

Gungrave G.O.R.E is resurrecting a franchise, but it's mindless bullet-slinging fun that has its problems and may not hold everyone's attention.

Gungrave lives by the simple principle of "kick their ass." If that premise fails to hook you, nothing G.O.R.E. does will change your mind. If anything, its minor missteps may dissuade you from sticking with it at all. For those who love Gungrave for the kind of game it is, however, G.O.R.E. offers plenty more of it while intelligently expanding the core mechanics. This is one for all the true Gungravers out there howling at the night for more things to shoot.

Gungrave GORE is one of those games that create many nostalgic moments throughout your journey. unfortunately, it heavily suffers from outdated gameplay and poor visuals. if you can ignore its problems, it could entertain you for a few hours, after that, there's nothing much to do

A third-person shooter escaped from a PS2 catalog, both for the good and the bad. Form and style predominate over substance, with simple but thoroughly enjoyable gameplay elements.

Gungrave G.O.R.E feels like a blast from the past. If you have nostalgia for the old PS2 games and want to experience a newer, flashier version then this will absolutely provide that. Just don’t go in expecting the series to have moved with the times.
