BLACKTAIL Reviews
BLACKTAIL is an RPG full of exploration, crafting, and magic. Based on Slavic Folklore, this isn't your typical happy story; this is a dark tale full of difficult choices. It may take some time to learn how to use your bow well, but once you figure out the proper timing and technique, you will be more successful in battle.
Venturing into the dark, fairytale world of BLACKTAIL and being part of Yaga's story is a unique experience. If we take into account the excellent narrative and the good replay factor that the morality system can offer, what we have here is a great game that is definitely deserves your attention.

Blacktail consists of well-known ingredients. But this brew has its own taste, and it is pretty good.

Blacktail tells a wonderful fairytale in a storybook world, but not all of its breadcrumbs lead home.
Blacktail is a welcome surprise for the end of the year. Combat can come off as cruel due to the limited number of arrows and the limited dodge mechanic, but the actual firing of arrows is excellent. Boss fights feel very satisfying once you finally get a read on what they're doing, but the variable difficulty that can be utilized during boss battles can provide some relief if players are more interested in the story than gameplay. The world is the real star thanks to the grimy yet alluring presentation and the cast of characters. The side-scrolling sections after every boss fight act as neat breathers before you return to your adventure. Blacktail is intriguing overall and well worth seeking out if you love adventure games.
Blacktail is one of the most unexpected, original and atmospheric games not only of December, but of the entire outgoing year. Of course, the authors still lack experience and skill, but they approached the concept of an adventure about the young Baba Yaga with soul and scope.
Having the Baba Yaga myth wrapping it all together ensures that Blacktail takes well-worn gameplay and gives it a unique spin.
BLACKTAIL feels like an interactive folk story; with the use of Slavic myths as well as its own original ideas, the storytelling and immersion are truly excellent. Despite all the praise, combat is a huge drawback and does bring the story down quite a bit, but BLACKTAIL is truly like no other and gives an excellent twist to a classic folk story. BLACKTAIL is currently available on Steam.
My time with Blacktail was frustrating. Not because it was a pain to play or that the writing was awful, but because there’s a strong game buried underneath some strange design decisions and disappointing performance issues. If you have the patience to see past some pretty major flaws, then you might get some enjoyment out of Blacktail. It’s one to skip for the rest of you though, and that’s a real shame.
Blacktail lets you inhabit a beautifully realized fairy tale world, and while the gameplay can sometimes fall into the mediocre rather than the great, it still works as a whole package due to how the whole thing comes together, and an amount of charm that cannot be understated.
With fun exploration and an enjoyable world to get lost in, Blacktail is a whimsical journey of self-reflection through our favourite fairy tales; not too hot, not too cold but just right.
There’s really nothing like Blacktail as long as you don’t mind the video game stuff stumbling over the weird story stuff. Or play in story mode, I suppose.
Blacktail is a game everyone is raving about and with good reason. The stunning little adventure game has a unique experience to sell you and beautiful visuals to show you along the way. While not everyone is going to have the patience to make it through Blacktail’s single-player experience, if any part of it looks interesting to you then I recommend you give it a try, as it’s shockingly cheap.
Players familiar with fast-paced combat and dark depictions of fairy tales will find that Blacktail has a lot to offer. Unfortunately, however, Blacktail often trips over its own feet by trying too hard to create a large variety of gameplay mechanics and easily losing track of the goals of its narrative.
BLACKTAIL is one of the biggest surprises of the year. It’s a game that pulled me into its mysterious and beautifully crafted world, filled with plenty of mysteries to discover. BLACKTAIL is a constantly engaging experience with only a few minor drawbacks.
BLACKTAIL is a well-made, highly polished title that is easy to recommend. Make sure you have the time to properly level up and explore. This beautiful, haunting world is one I hope to come back to time and time again.
