Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a tremendous addition to the growing Switch 2 catalogue, delivering an ambitious and content-rich RPG experience that sets a new bar for what players can expect from the best entries in the JRPG genre. The heartfelt story, innovative action combat, and huge amount of open-world content combine in an experience that's hard to put down for the several dozen hours it lasts.Though there are some noticeable performance and visual concessions, these ultimately don't detract enough from the game's quality to derail the experience. I'd absolutely recommend you pick this up if you consider yourself a fan of JRPGs - Square Enix knocked this one out of the park, and it more than deserves a spot in your library.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 isn't the version some might have dreamed of. It's the one we could have hoped for: solid, unpretentious, and full of charm.

Once again, Square Enix and Naoki Hamaguchi’s team did an amazing job with this port to Nintendo Switch 2.

It's a little bit messier than Remake, but the highs are higher. When this game clicks, it's one of my favorite games in recent memory, making some of the discordant moments less egregious. On Switch 2, it's a totally fine port, albeit not as impressive as the port of Remake. There might be better platforms to play this game on, but if you're into the world of Final Fantasy, RPGs, or wild and weird AAA games, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a must-play wherever you can get it.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is one of the best-looking games the game industry has ever produced. It's not even that it's realistic. The art does a lot of the heavy lifting in creating beautiful and atmospheric scenes. The core gameplay is rock solid and hard to put down when it’s allowed to shine, but it’s dragged down by a bloated narrative that takes five hours to tell ten minutes’ worth of story. As a long-time fan who grew up playing Final Fantasy VII back in 1997, Rebirth can be frustrating to experience because, amidst all the trite and misguided creative liberties, Final Fantasy VII is in there somewhere, screaming to break out. At the very least, players will get a lot of bang for their buck because the sheer density of content is so ridiculous that there's enough here for two games.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Switch 2 is full of compromises, sure. That didn’t stop it, though, from being an impressive port of one of the best RPGs in recent years. It’s blurry and unstable in handheld mode, and I do agree that these distract from the experience, but the brilliance of its combat, characters, and storytelling isn’t lost to the weaker hardware. It may not replace the PS5 version, but as a way to experience a massive adventure like this anywhere you want, Rebirth feels at home on Nintendo’s handheld hybrid.

The action on the screen is consistently excellent on the Switch 2's display, and the text is easy to read, even in the menus. And venturing outdoors with Cloud and his companions on adventures is a truly special experience that quickly makes you (at least for us) forget the graphical limitations.

An all-time great JRPG with amazing gameplay, gorgeous graphics, likeable characters and a legendary story. Sadly brought down a notch by meaningless padding and some technical porting hiccups. All things considered, Final Fantasy Rebirth is a must-play, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t super excited for part 3 of this epic game.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 is a technical feat that impresses time and again. The fact that this massive RPG is playable on a handheld console remains almost absurdly impressive. The atmosphere, soundtrack and combat largely hold up, but at the same time you can constantly feel how hard the hardware has to work to keep everything running. Blurry visuals, pop-in and, above all, frame drops crop up regularly. My score is partly based on the fact that I can also play this game on PS5, but if you only have a Switch 2, I definitely recommend this game and you can safely add a point to the score.

It’s not the flawless port that *Remake* was—it has plenty of graphical compromises—but *Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth* still packs a punch on the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite the inevitable limitations of porting a game released just two years ago on the PS5, *Rebirth* remains a spectacular title, one of the best RPGs of this generation, and is now perfectly playable on the go.

Despite some minor performance issues, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is yet another excellent port from Square Enix. Even with the challenges of bringing the title to a weaker platform, the developer managed to deliver a very good product that allows console owners to continue experiencing the trilogy of remakes of one of the most iconic JRPGs of the 32-bit generation.

The retelling of the story is great, the production value (even from a Switch 2 standpoint) is phenomenal, and you can tell a lot of love went into the game's development. It is undoubtedly filled to the brim with content for you to enjoy, but at the same time, it's hard to ignore the fact that it doesn't feel like the game actually cares about all the hours you poured into it. These newer versions of the game sort of scratch the surface of addressing that problem by offering Streamlined Progression and the ability to unlock unlimited MP and HP modifiers to make things less challenging, and that's all well and great if you wanna get through the game quickly, as we wait for news on the game's conclusion.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth accomplishes something extraordinarily difficult. It takes a beloved story that many considered impossible to improve upon and expands it in ways that feel meaningful, ambitious, and surprisingly respectful. It transforms a focused remake into a sprawling adventure, deepens an already exceptional cast, and delivers one of the most content-rich RPG experiences available today. More importantly, it validates everything Square Enix set out to achieve with this trilogy. For Nintendo Switch 2 owners, the achievement becomes even more remarkable. Rebirth isn’t merely another major third-party release arriving on Nintendo hardware. It’s proof that the platform can host modern blockbuster RPGs without sacrificing their identities. Just a few months ago, Remake Intergrade demonstrated what was possible, and now Rebirth demonstrates what is achievable. The fact that one of the most ambitious role-playing games of the decade can be played both on a television and in handheld form without losing the essence of what makes it special is nothing short of impressive. For longtime fans, this is an easy recommendation. For newcomers willing to start with Intergrade first, it represents one of the finest RPG journeys currently available. And for Nintendo Switch 2 itself? This may very well be one of its defining showcase titles (for now).

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers a bigger world, memorable characters, some addictive mini games, and one of gaming’s best soundtracks. Despite minor visual trade-offs and a few tedious activities, this is an outstanding RPG that’s even more impressive on the go with Nintendo Switch 2.

Technical compromises aside, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth stands as one of the best RPGs currently available on Switch 2 and a hugely impressive new realization of a classic that already defined the genre decades ago.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is proof that a remake can go far beyond simply recreating a classic. With an engaging narrative, a brilliant combat system, and an enormous amount of high-quality content, the game delivers one of the most memorable experiences of recent years. Although the Nintendo Switch 2 version features noticeable visual limitations in larger-scale environments, they are not significant enough to undermine an adventure that remains grand, emotional, and essential for RPG fans.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 delivers an impressive, fully playable port that inevitably compromises on performance and visual fidelity compared to PS5 and PC. Despite noticeable drops and technical concessions, Square Enix manages to preserve the scale, emotion, and sheer ambition of the original experience. Not a miracle port, but a highly competent adaptation of a modern RPG masterpiece.
