Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways should be shown to all developers as to how to do DLC going forward. Not only do we get a great campaign that almost rivals the main game, but it’s done at a cheap/affordable price point. The story of Ada gives us some more questions as to what is going on with the future of the Resident Evil remake franchise while keeping its own story relevant and interesting.

Separate Ways is a worthy counterpart to Resident Evil 4's fantastic story, providing an excellent remix of both new and familiar locations, and its breakneck pace of pitting you against excellent adversaries never leaves room for a dull moment.

Resident Evil lovers will be lucky, seeing that Separate Ways is the perfect icing on the cake that Resident Evil 4 Remake needed. Completing the DLC can easily take 4-5 hours, which is not bad at all if we take into account that it costs €9.99 and the base game can easily be finished in 17-20 hours. Without a doubt, an essential DLC for every fan of the saga as well as anyone who wants to delve deeper into the history of Resident Evil 4. As a note, mention that in order to play Separate Ways you will need to be able to play the base game.

A very welcome slice of DLC that is just as enjoyable as the main game and helps flesh out a fan favourite character with their own unique abilities and agenda.

I’m just as shocked as you are that Separate Ways ended up being great, but when you really think about it, there was no other realistic outcome. The Resident Evil 4 remake is so good that Capcom really could have rested on its laurels and developed a cheap DLC that would have been fine at worst, but they put the work in.

Whether it's to discover the new plot implications, or the way in which Capcom has given more value to the grappling hook and reinterpreted some prominent creatures, any fan of the series should live this thrill journey, also seen an absolutely affordable ticket price. Grab your grappling hook and dust your crossbow: Ada Wong is waiting for you!

An excellent DLC, which takes the original content and reworks it for greater overall cohesion, embellishing everything with mechanics tailored for Ada.

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is exactly what fans wanted from the Ada Wong-focused story. It improves on the original, giving more depth to the protagonist’s character and progressing her narrative. The acrobatics of the special agent opens up new gameplay options which allows the heroine to latch on to ledges and superkick enemies. While you don’t have complete freedom with the grapple gun and the runtime is short, there are no wasted moments which makes Separate Ways a joy from start to finish.

If Resident Evil 4 struck the perfect balance between survival horror and AAA action, Separate Ways cranks the lever to full-on action, but in a way that compliments the base game and retains the spirit of Resident Evil.

Although it has its foundations laid on something we've already experienced, Separate Ways finds its own way (ahem) with bombproof storytelling and pacing. It is an example of complete, intense and well-designed DLC.

Separate Ways is a well-designed piece of content that provides a non-stop, action-packed tour of what we’ve already played while adding in some clever ways to traverse familiar terrain, seeing it from alternative perspectives. Ada’s abilities only add to the experience, freshening up the core loop just enough to keep you interested but her story also dovetails brilliantly with what we’ve already played while setting things up for the future. Whatever that might be. Capcom have expertly weaved in previously cut content and even added in a few surprises that you may not catch on just one playthrough. While it doesn’t massively change the formula from the game you’ve already played and standard enemy variety – beyond bosses – isn’t overly different, it’s a healthy length with great variety and an essential component of the wider RE4 story that you simply must check out.

Separate Ways is no longer a superfluous extra because of all of these astute changes. With its focus on replayability, upgrades, and unique encounters, this expansion more deeply understands what makes Resident Evil 4 Resident Evil 4 and has all the unpredictability of the remake. But unlike the remake, Capcom couldn't just maintain the essence of what was already there because the original Separate Ways was so underwhelming. Instead, it deftly rebuilt Ada's side story and turned it into an integral part of the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Nitpicks aside, Separate Ways is a mostly tremendous addition to the Resident Evil 4 remake and, along with The Mercenaries mode updates that were released for free, goes a long way in making the RE4 remake experience truly complete. Some may still not be happy that Separate Ways is a $9.99 DLC instead of being packed-in with the game like it was in the post-GameCube versions of the original Resident Evil 4, but this version of Separate Ways is a fundamentally different experience and one that surpasses its predecessor in every possible way.

Separate Ways DLC sets a new standard for downloadable content, standing out as one of the finest offerings in recent years. With an impressive gameplay duration of around 3.5 hours, impeccable craftsmanship, and a faithful preservation of the elements that made the original game a classic, it's a compelling addition. Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways DLC surpasses its original counterpart in almost every regard by introducing a more cohesive and fleshed-out take on Ada’s side story. It leverages its linearity with its no-nonsense take on a bombastic campaign that not only compliments the events of Leon’s story but also hints at the series’ possible future paths. By introducing Ada’s grappling hook, it re-invents its combat and traversal in a non-tedious way but leaves little room for backtracking. It is easily the best downloadable content we’ve had in 2023.

Separate Ways is about as good a DLC of this size can get, filling in narrative gaps and expertly tweaking a sublime gameplay loop. Playing as Ada Wong feels different enough thanks to new gadgets and weapons, while expanded areas provide fresh scenery for a second visit. A sense of disjointedness frays the edges, but Resident Evil 4 feels whole with Separate Ways by its side. A worthy expansion for one of 2023's greatest titles.

While the bar wasn't that high to begin with, Separate Ways is far and away the best piece of DLC ever released for a Resident Evil game. It manages to succesfully build on top of the already rock solid experience that Resident Evil 4 provides to offer up the spotlight that series super spy Ada Wong has always deserved. With a heady mix of horror, action and even espionage, Separate Ways' incredibly modest price of admission makes it a no brainer. It's an absolute achievement from the development team and not to be missed.

The Resident Evil 4 remake Separate Ways expansion is a flawless DLC, and serves as a valuable and engaging conclusion to the Las Plagas saga. Capcom has done the entire remake of Resident Evil 4 right from top to bottom. Stepping into Ada's high heels and grappling from rooftop to rooftop feels exhilarating and refreshing as we get to peek into her side of the story. Now I want a full game with just Ada alone! After all, who doesn't love her?
