The addition of vehicular gameplay as well as the ability to play online with your friends makes Superchargers a solid addition to the franchise. The high cost required to fully enjoy the whole game as well as the inability to separately purchase the Nintendo toys, however, is a bummer. Overall, though, fans of previous games in the series will enjoy this one.

Skylanders Superchargers provides what we've come to expect from the series: high production values, fun for all ages, and reminders that you could spend a whole lot more on additional toys to play with.

The writing, humor, and story structure are such that they not only get the job done, but are actually fun to experience, making Superchargers a great option for almost any age. While older gamers might find it aimed at a younger crowd, it's still a great game and opportunity to bring together families and siblings.

Skylanders Superchargers is the most diverse and enjoyable entry in the series to date, but it also locks away a lot more of its fun content behind additional purchases. You honestly won't enjoy it as much unless you also buy at least one sky vehicle and one sea vehicle to go with your starter set.

Overall, SuperChargers is a competent sequel and one that's bound to keep the Skylanders fandom transfixed for yet another year. Where previous iterations have kept the series afloat using fun albeit superficial gimmicks, this latest edition feels more like a genuine step in a new direction. It's great news all around, yet the developers at Vicarious Visions and Toys For Bob will definitely be feeling the pressure in trying to top this latest effort next year.

Skylanders Superchargers revs up its cyber-engine to offer fans a huge variety of vehicular and action platforming gameplay. After several iterations, this series now offers a surprising amount of depth, but it still lacks a serious challenge. Nevertheless, older gamers won't bemoan having to play this game with their children. In fact, they'll look forward to it.

The resulting creation is the best Skylanders game to date, and a strong competitor to all those upstarts. Even the new Skylander characters, who initially seem a bit over-designed, grow on you after a few hours of play. If you're going to invest a ridiculous amount of cash into games that link up with collectible figurines, you could do a lot worse than Superchargers.

Even though some might be groaning at the cost of having to buy all new toys with it (relax, older ones work just fine as well), Skylanders SuperChargers still qualifies as one of the better games in the series to date. It's fun to play whether in a vehicle or running around, and it looks and sounds very nice for the most part. If your wallet is prepared, you'll have no problem reaching top speed with this one.

[My daughter] told me several times over the last week that this was her favourite toys-to-life game yet. And speaking as both a gamer and a parent I can't find much wrong with her reasoning. Skylanders SuperChargers has great toys and loads of fun stuff to do. Better still, it isn't (necessarily) going to break the bank. It gets my dad stamp of approval.
