This edgy revival of the scrolling brawler inherits the problems of its influences, and is both boorish and boring as a result.

If you're the kind of person who wishes it still was the eighties and likes the idea of revisiting a button-mashing romp, warts and all, you'll find a lot to like about this one. But even so, you might find it wearing thin after a while. After all, even the Age of Nostalgia must come to an end.

Mother Russia Bleeds is a proficiently-made side-scrolling beat 'em up that ultimately fails to drag this already limited genre forwards with any great new ideas of its own. Add in a wearyingly mature aesthetic and you're left with an oddly downbeat button-mashing action game; fans of the genre should wait for the forthcoming Streets of Rage 4 or download Capcom's superb Beat 'Em Up Bundle.

A debauchery-fueled beat 'em up with plenty of ways to cripple your enemies, its excessive violence never overshadows the smart and intuitive combat.

Mother Russia Bleeds is like melting Takashi Miike cinema with tumblr and Hotline Miami. A nice beat'em up with a bloody aesthetic and a nice gameplay.

It's somewhat difficult to recommend Mother Russia Bleeds, as the dystopian setting and drug-filled plot are at odds with the conventions of the side-scrolling beat-em-up genre. While the sprite work is overall quite ugly, the level of detail is astounding in depicting this game's disturbing imagery. With limited replay value, couch only coop, and not much diversity among the playable roster, these issues outweigh the promise of Le Cartel Studio's debut game.

Mother Russia Bleeds is a bloody and charming affair. It is Splatterhouse by way of David Fincher. I wanted more when it was done. Devolver Digital and Le Cartel studio have laid the groundwork for a stylish and brutal world. Whether you are a fan of beat em ups or just good old fashioned violence, this is sure to scratch that itch for you. I went into this thinking it would be like Hotline Miami but in a different genre. Then I beat a pig to death with my bare hands. What I came away with was an experience produced by a company that knows its strengths without being afraid to try something new and for the most part, it works very well.

Mother Russia Bleeds is full of drugs and flaws. Its art direction is over the top, but there are frustrating sections that ultimately break the flow.

Mother Russia Bleeds is a great game with some truly oppressive decisions, with the lack of online co-op being the most obvious. Still, those looking for that Streets of Rage itch to scratch, this does it, and does it well. I just wish there was a bit more to it, of and of course online co-op. Not sure I mentioned how much this game suffers from not having that option.

Mother Russia Bleeds is a welcome addition to a genre that has been forgotten for decades. Its combat is fun and brutal but be warned It's a game that will drive you up the walls and probably see you break your controller, hopefully you won't break it of your friends head if he's sitting next to you.

Mother Russia Bleeds has a great title and a unique look with its ugly and yet beautiful 2D sprites. Unfortunately, the combat gets dull rather quickly, and with the lack of online multiplayer, it's a difficult game to recommend to anyone but the true enthusiasts of the genre.

Despite being a little over the top at times, violence-wise, Mother Russia Bleeds is a fantastic brawler at it's core. Addicting gameplay with a classic look, this one should keep you and your friends entertained time and time again, just like the classic beat'em ups of the past.
