The spirit of Gorkamorka lives on in Speed Freeks, with a frantic blast of multiplayer mayhem the perfect antidote to the grim dark realities of other Games Workshop titles.

Warhammer 40000: Speed Freeks is a solid entry in the Warhammer line of video games. It's fun, fast, and runs well on the Steam Deck. Warhammer 40000 is in early access and is a must try for fans of the Warhammer franchise.

Speed Freeks is bleeding out players fast, and it doesn’t feel like it’ll be long before all matches are filled with bots. The game has some great characters and environment designs, as well as a very fun customization system, but the bot-filled online-only matches make it a difficult title to recommend.

Chaotic doesn’t seem like a strong enough word for what you’ll experience with the Ork boyz in Speed Freeks, but the thrill of the race and unlockable items are waiting for you if you choose to join them.

Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks can certainly feel limited in what is available to take on, but the extremely low price does make up for some of that. Still, additional modes, and even vehicles, should be added at a somewhat regular pace if they intend to keep its player base engaged. What is here is enjoyable, with the crunchy and weighty combat you'd want, all wrapped up in an aesthetic that feels perfect for it.

It ain’t perfect. It’s buggy, it’s unbalanced, and it’s madder than a Goff on prom night—but that’s exactly what an Ork would call a good time.

I honestly can’t help but think there could have been more to this at launch if there wasn’t a monetization pivot a week before the game was released. About half of what is here is pretty rock solid. I am wondering if maybe Deff Rally couldn’t be reworked to focus just a little on the racing part. Also I think this game could do with a battle mode like Twisted Metal and older Mario Kart games to add some variety to the game. Just a handful of players going at it, racking up points until someone is left standing. No teams, no other goal. I hope they flesh Warhammer 40k Speed Freeks out a bit with some dlc or just added content or something cause as it stands there is some fun to be had but it’s a bit short lived.

Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is a very good racer shooter title that will satisfy all your needs for this sort of mayhem, but if you're searching for perfection, you won't find it here, because this title has some serious shortcomings.

Speed Freeks will live or die based on its developer and publisher’s ability to maintain a sizeable player count for the foreseeable future. I really like the core gameplay loop, sense of humor, and presentation. It’s a totally dumb and over-the-top multiplayer funhouse, just the way I like it. If you’re even moderately into vehicular combat games, even if you don’t know a damn thing about Warhammer, Speed Freeks is an easy recommendation, despite its flaws and limitations. Make sure this game will last for a while, as it’s quite fun with the right mindset.

Is Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks fun? To a certain extent, yes. Especially if you set your expectations extremely low and prepare yourself for a mindless vehicular combat game where the WAAAAAGHs, teef, and krumps fly at you from all directions, Speed Freeks can be a decent game that you can even enjoy without spending any money. But is Speed Freeks good? That’s a different question. With its limited selection of modes, awkward controls, technical issues, and—importantly—gameplay that focuses more on chaos than on actual racing, there’s a good chance that Speed Freeks will be krumped and dumped by many after just a few weeks.
