Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a sandbox collect-a-thon that pays homage to the earliest eras of Disney creations. This no risk/no reward game looks good from the opening, but just seems like an animated feature that went on for 12 hours too long. With too much chatter, not enough fun, and literal pocket thinner, Epic is not the word I would paint here.

Disney's Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a fine remaster that scratches that nostalgic itch, even if it doesn't do anything new with the material. Sometimes, it's just fun to revisit something familiar, and that's enough.

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is an improved remake of the 2010 classic, now available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch. It retains the original charm, with graphical improvements and new mechanics, but could have made more use of the visual potential and challenged players more.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a product of its time, and Purple Lamp has done a fine enough job at rebuilding its world and tending to maintain what it was, even if I truly feel it needed some more work to make it fun for today’s standards. Despite my issues with the core game still being a bit too outdated, this is easily the best version of the game as it is considerably better looking and has a far better framerate. It doesn’t bring anything new to the genre that you haven’t seen before, and despite the Paint and Thinner mechanics knocking at that door, they are far too basic to really be revolutionary or inventive, even for the time. Epic Mickey was a fine enough game 14 years ago, but now, it’s an outdated relic that is the definition of paint by number.

Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed is a decent update of one of the Wii’s much-beloved adventures. As a Disney fan, playing through with my son was an absolute delight, smiling with glee as we registered rides from the theme parks and leaping off the sofa whenever we crossed paths with a well-known face. As a gamer though, my experience was – as much as I hate to say it – good but not great filled with intriguing worlds to explore and dated tasks to accomplish. Still, I had a great time overall and Rebrushed is easily the best way to experience Disney’s weirdly wonderful adventure.

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is still a solid platformer distinguished by its paint and thinner mechanics. Perhaps the combat model needs some refinement, but it's still worth checking out. The artistic style is simply enchanting and the gameplay is fun!

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a charming and original platformer that, despite its slower pace, dated storytelling, and occasional control issues, will delight fans of the original while still offering an enjoyable experience.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed will be a fun time for any 3D platformer and Disney fan, with all sorts of references to the past. It is a fascinating game that brings people deeper into the characters and worlds that Walt Disney created in his early days, and will be worth exploring Wasteland again for those that played the original Wii version thanks to the improvements made mechanically and visually. This is still a rather basic platformer that treads the line of tedium due to outdated fetch quests, and voice acting could have really benefitted the story scenes, but there is a great charm to this game, despite the darker tone, that will appeal to many.

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed successfully improves upon the flawed original in some key ways, thus allowing its strengths to shine much brighter, but significant lingering issues in other areas hold it back from greatness.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a welcome return to the world of the Wasteland. While not the most challenging game, it has that Disney charm from start to finish.

In the end, I think the base game is still entertaining to a certain extent, but passing it up is understandable, especially since a lot of interesting products are coming out one after another these months. In short, it is an acceptable remaster, but not a must-have for the video game industry.

Epic Mickey is still an enjoyable platformer with impeccable artistic talent driving it. The repetitive combat and exploration remains, but the Rebrushed updates go some way to remedying those shortcomings.

If you like Mickey Mouse and want to play a fun video game about him, you can do a lot worse than Epic Mickey: Rebrushed! You can also do a lot better, but that would require booting up some old emulators or expensive retro hardware, which is a different kind of thing from having something new(ish) on today’s platforms.

Epic Mickey Rebrushed is the ultimate version of the game and the team at Purple Lamp have clearly put a lot of love into updating the game for a contemporary audience. That being said, the additions to Mickey's moveset are completely unnecessary and the core game remains largely the same. If you've played Epic Mickey before then this version will bring back any nostalgia you have for the game and if you haven't then it is a good way to experience a neglected title. The lack of anything more than a cosmetic upgrade does make the high price a little hard to justify but this is still a solid game for anyone with a fondness for the Mouse.

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed updates a 2010 Wii classic for a new generation, somehow packing in even more nostalgia and twisted Disney references than ever before. An engaging story, gorgeous visuals, and bags of charm make it well worth the wait, despite some technical hitches and gameplay frustrations that detract from its undeniable potential.

I’m not sure that anything can ever capture the lightning in a bottle that was Epic Mickey’s original concept, but Rebrushed is the closest thing we’ll ever get to that dark magic, even if one of its core pillars is something that still drags it down. If you’re a diehard fan, you’ll love all of the small changes Rebrushed makes to cut down on the grind and monotony the original suffered from, and if you’re a newcomer you’ll experience Disney’s weirdest venture at its absolute best.

After rescuing cartoons from obscurity, Epic Mickey himself needed to be rescued to return to action with modernized visuals and gameplay. Thus, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a remake that improves on what came before and highlights the aspects that were already good in the mouse's unusual dark adventure, but its inconsistencies cannot hide the fact that the basis came from a more limited era.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a solid, well-packaged remake that delivers an exciting, entertaining (not just for fans of the Disney universe) and content-rich adventure. More attention to the technical aspect, the introduction of more modern mechanics and the presence of extended voice acting would have allowed it to reach higher heights, but as it is, it remains a highly recommended adventure.
