Metro Awakening Reviews
Metro Awakening is a great virtual reality game. Immersive, interesting, challenging and faithful to the Metro universe. However, its pace is a bit slow, the story takes a while to get going and some moments, because they are “too realistic”, can end up being stressful for the player.

Metro Awakening succeeds in translating the Metro series to virtual reality by focusing on its strengths: immersive storytelling, atmospheric exploration, and visceral combat. While it doesn’t reinvent the formula, it adapts it thoughtfully, shedding complexity where necessary to make for an immersive and engrossing experience. The result is a game that feels both familiar and fresh – a poignant, tense, and visually stunning journey through one of gaming’s most harrowing post-apocalyptic worlds. It does have some minor flaws and can grow a little repetitive at times, but still manages to offer a captivating virtual reality experience that both long-time Metro fans and those new to the series are sure to enjoy.
Metro Awakening brings the Metro universe to virtual reality. The game impresses with an excellently realized end-time atmosphere in the Moscow subway, which is in no way inferior to the main series. The story, the characters and, above all, the typical VR mechanics such as climbing, opening doors and turning valves also impressed us throughout, as did the truly outstanding implementation of the shooting system. If you ignore the somewhat poorly detailed creatures, the sometimes somewhat awkward motion controls (e.g. when loading the lamp) or the repeatedly wildly placed subtitles, you definitely get a high-quality VR experience in twelve chapters, which is a worthy representative of the main series.

Metro Awakening is a thrilling title that newcomers and longtime fans will love despite its few but glaring flaws. The game smartly rolls out different weapons and gadgets, so it's not too overwhelming for the player. Shooting monsters and planning out stealth strategies is a lot of fun, even if the combat itself may feel more cumbersome than it should. It's frustrating that there were moments when the game needed to be restarted as the frame rate dropped significantly. With the holidays coming up, Metro Awakening is a must-have game for any VR lover, old-school Metro fan or both.
The greatest strength of Metro: Awakening lies in its ability to render the disastrous world created by Dmitry Glukhovsky tangibly oppressive, transporting the player into the depths of the Moscow metro like never before. Dirty, grim, and ruthless, the title developed by Vertigo Games Amsterdam makes the player feel like a true survivor, constantly powerless and at the mercy of the dark threats lurking underground. This is achieved through a shooter with survival elements that, while somewhat conventional, is highly effective, featuring engaging and immersive mechanics. It might run in circles a bit too much in its final stages, but if you love the series, there’s no reason to delay a highly recommended purchase.

All in all, "Metro Awakening" is an outstanding experience, especially for Metro fans, although the game does not live up to the very high expectations in some respects. The gameplay and the story are good on their own, but they get in each other's way a bit. The story dominates entire sections of the game, which then feel more like an interactive movie, while the gameplay misses out on really evolving over the course of the game and offering a truly new experience. But "Metro Awakening" has hit the core perfectly: Implementing the atmosphere and gameplay of "Metro 2033" in a VR environment.

After a long wait for a VR game to rival Half-Life: Alyx, Metro Awakening by VR powerhouse Vertigo Games initially seemed like a worthy contender, but after eight hours in Moscow’s post-apocalyptic metro tunnels, it’s clear that on the Quest 3, inconsistent graphics, problematic controls, lack of variety, and technical issues hold it back from reaching Alyx's heights, leaving only nostalgia to carry hardcore Metro fans through an experience that struggles to stay compelling over time.

Fans of the Metro series should definitely check out this must-play experience since it vividly brings a beloved universe to life in whole fresh manner. It’s a great introduction for newcomers like me, even if it stumbles somewhat toward the finish. Metro Awakening is a deserving addition to the Meta Quest 3 collection overall since it presents a strong and unforgettable VR adventure.
Metro Awakening shows a lot of promise, with its creepy atmosphere, slick gunplay and generally fun VR mechanics. Sadly it doesn't last, and the second half of the game gets overly repetitive.

While Metro: Awakening delivers an immersive VR experience with innovative controls and atmospheric environments, technical shortcomings in graphics and sound design prevent it from reaching its full potential, especially when it comes to the realization of the fascinating world of the novels.

It's rare to find a game that pulls you so deeply into its world, but Metro Awakening does exactly that, challenging you to brave its shadows and confront the unknown. This isn't just another entry in the Metro series; it's a journey that stays with you, a dark and unforgettable descent into a world that feels achingly alive.
Vertigo Games may be new to the Metro lifestyle, but they pull it off with a confidence that really shows through. The VR touches to bring the series to VR are masterfully handled with only the occasional VR jank issue rearing its ugly head. The story may not always impress, but the tense firefights and threats around every corner really perform a lot of the heavy lifting. Metro: Awakening is a standout title for the PSVR2 and while that isn’t saying a lot given its barren catalog, it’s still a solid outing nonetheless and a great Metro game to boot.
Metro Awakening is, directly, one of the best virtual reality video games ever made. It is a Metro with all the letters and a perfect tribute to the first installments of the saga. The setting is brutal, the story is good, the level design and exploration hook anyone, and the graphics will leave you speechless. You have to play it.

Metro Awakening is easily one of the best VR experiences you can play right now, which shouldn’t come much as a surprise, considering Vertigo Games’ previous work on the Arizona Sunshine series. Still, it’s impressive that the veteran VR developers were able to take an existing IP from another studio and transition it so well into VR while maintaining the very essence of what made so many fans fall in love with the franchise. They’ve absolutely knocked it out with Metro Awakening, giving us a whole new perspective on the franchise. It’s downright terrifying to the point that it sent shivers, and yet something about the world is so well crafted that it just kept drawing me back in.
Metro Awakening is worth every penny. It's the most immersive post-apocalyptic experience I've had the pleasure of playing, and every step I took through the tunnels beneath Moscow had me feeling on edge and wary of my next move.
