Big Helmet Heroes doesn't reinvent the wheel, but manages to highlight what makes a beat 'em up adventure so fun to play.

There's a lot to like about Big Helmet Heroes, it's a delightfully silly and fun side-scrolling beat 'em up, but substantial patches are required to fix the game before contemplating a purchase.

Big Helmet Heroes is a really fun game with a cool cartoon style. The action never lets up as you are either going to be involved in imaginative fights or undergoing puzzling platform trials. The game can prove to be quite the challenge on harder difficulties and playing with a buddy definitely proves to be more enjoyable and successful during strenuous moments.

Big Helmet Heroes is undoubtedly fun, especially with the plethora of weapons available, but it’s very much your run-of-the-mill experience rather than an outstanding offering in the field.

Big Helmet Heroes is the perfect title to take a break and have fun with a friend, thanks to the local co-op mode. The number of weapons and moves available guarantees several hours of fun in a world that doesn't take itself too seriously. It was needed!

Big Helmet Heroes was a very pleasant surprise, bringing very enjoyable gameplay, very charismatic characters and a very interesting world. A strong recommendation for lovers of beat 'em up games and for those who enjoy playing cooperative action games.

Big Helmet Heroes is a scrolling beat'em'up that makes the ironic representation of chivalric imagery its strong point. But above all, beyond the production's evidently humorous figure, Exalted Studio makes a genuinely entertaining title, capable of making people smile thanks to its likeable protagonists grappling with sizzling hand-to-hand combat. Certainly, this is not the title of the month and it is not within its ambitions to be so. Nevertheless, it does not detract from the fact that if you want to spend a few hours in merriment, perhaps with a friend on the same couch, this is a title to keep in due consideration.

Despite its issues, Big Helmet Heroes is a blast. Its story bits feel unfinished, but the central gameplay that makes up 95% of the adventure is a true successor to Castle Crashers, making it a fun time with two players. While four players would have been ideal for being a party game, it’s likely something the studio will approach in a possible sequel, or at least that is my dream for where this series could go.With fun weapons, engaging abilities, and 28 other knights to unlock across 20 levels, Big Helmet Heroes is certainly a fun time with a friend.

I love an entertaining and fun beat’em up, something where you can control the pace, has enjoyable combat with some fun enemy and weapon variety. Big Helmet Heroes touches on all those things. The funny moments in the gameplay and cutscenes, to replaying levels to try to unlock the knight I missed, it’s all here. Not to mention the subtle yet amazing easter eggs.

Big Helmet Heroes is a charming little cooperative beat ’em up that’ll be a delight to smaller family members and parents alike. A lack of unique objectives throughout most of the stages might be a bit of a bore and visibility issues can sometimes frustrate, but there’s enough here for an amusing local coop experience. ∎

As someone who’s spent years playing both indie gems and AAA titles, I can confidently say that Big Helmet Heroes offers something special. It’s a game that doesn’t try to be overly ambitious but excels in what it sets out to do: provide a fun, engaging, and memorable experience. With its dynamic combat system, co-op gameplay, and charming visuals, Big Helmet Heroes is shaping up to be a standout title for 2025. While it may not appeal to players seeking a deeply narrative-driven experience, it more than makes up for it with its creativity and humor.

Although "Big Helmet Heroes" offers casual action with a nice look from the first minute, it lacks any depth. The story is thin and the gameplay is very shallow. You can have a bit of fun, especially in co-op, but the battles are mostly limited to simply pressing buttons in the hope that you don't lose sight of yourself and your opponents.
